My custom guitar : part 2, the sound test

- Here it is at last !!
for those who have been nagging about it,
but also for those who asked nicely,
the sound demo of the guitar I made in december 2019.
I tried to capture the full range of what the guitar can give, using the minimum gear,
I'm one of those who think that a lot of the tone comes from the player's fingers, so sorry for my very average playing :p
But I remain pretty confident that this guitar would sound amazing in the hands of a virtuoso.
Gear in this video:
* amp: Orange CR60C (solid state), clean channel only, flat EQ, no reverb
* mics: Shure SM 57 (center), AKG D112 (edge)
* logic : no EQ, no compression
* pedalboard:
- tc electronics HyperGravity compression
- Bluesky reverb
- ibanez TubeScreamer (mini)
- tc electronics MojoMojo overdrive
Thank you so much for watching the build
the video has 300k views as I'm writing this and so many nice and constructive comments!
Stay tuned, more builds are coming !
I particularly appreciate that you actually let us hear what the guitar sounds like "dry" because so many people on youtube expect us to just guess what a guitar played with distortion or an absurd amount of reverb might sound like by itself. The Dimarzio PAF in the neck was very impressive, by the way.
Totally agree. Too many demos are swamped with overdrive from the outset - even a plank with crappy pups can sound reasonable when you push everything beyond extremes.
2:51 love me some Vulfpeck! Especially that Darwin Derby riff, I’m so glad I stumbled upon these videos! Very therapeutic to watch, so satisfying
Thank you !
yeah exactly!
Man, no matter the sound... The whole process is a magic. Congratulations
Satisfying to listen to it after the journey of seeing it be built.
Man, this looks and sounds fantastic! Congrats on such a beautiful build!
what a job to achieve such a magnificent result.
Congratulations.
Best regards from France.
Watched the whole video of you building this. It has good humbucker sounds.
Beautiful build sounds lovely better than some big name brand's 👍
That sounds great man. Good work on the build.
building in the name of...
Sounds beautiful!
love the vulf near the end
Just came from the build video. Sounds AMAZING!!!
2:24 that cake riff tho, nastyyyyy
Absolutely beautiful!
If you were my friend I would ask you to teach me this kind of woodworking, because making guitars is both art and satisfaction
For me it's mostly satisfaction, a big dose of satisfaction :) thanks !
Your guitar is awesome! By the way, how do you know a right point to set pickups? I have a guitar with 3 pickups. It has 2 single pickups and bridge humbucker. This guitar has stratocaster style pickups attached to a pickguard. I wish to replace a pickguard with a new laser cut copy to replace neck single pickup with humbucker. But I do not know how to find exact position for the new humbucker. I know that polepieces can affect strings by magnetic field and create undesired harmonics. Is there some equation of something to find this out?
Thank you ! I have no idea ! For this build I reproduced the measurement from my Ibanez prestige sz2020 which is a double humbucker. So what I would do in your case is to find a guitar that has the same configuration, reproduce the layout and then have your pickguard laser cut.
I wouldn't use a laser engraver though, but a router with a flush trim bit and an mdf template. You will have to route some new cavity for the pickup itself in the body anyway. You can find humbucker templates for sale on the internet (stewmac delivers in Europe now). Personally I used to make my own template on mdf now I 3d print them on my tiny 3d printer. Does the job perfectly !
F’n awesome! I love that guitar! Wouldn’t mind buying one if I could afford it
If it makes it any better, it's not for sale aahaha
Excellent sound, good readability and of course appearance. Great job!
this is a beautiful guitar, well done, im a fan
Hey, I have that same amp! Great build and great gear
That RATM riff..wow. Fantastic job man.👌
love it!! sounds incredible!!
Sounds awsome.
Super awesome 👍I love it🎶🎸
Thanks ! Check out my Les Paul build :)
@@tchiksguitars I think I have, it was super cool, too
sounds AMAZING
The bridge pick up sounds sick!
Nice sounds
why is this mans god
Sounds great!
Great humbucking sound
Wow. Nice Tele paul.
Hahahahah
Wonderful guitar
Well done, sounds great 👍 the only negative comment’s I would have are, dislike the big contrast between the fingerboard and body, also the fact it’s not rounded at the bottom strap button. I really like the Tele behind you. 👍👍👍
thanks ! ! I get the idea but I personally love two tones contrasts, I've always done that, wayyyy before making guitars (in furnitures specifically). Oh and I built the tele too :) it was my first build.
Sorry I got to say the guitar sounds awesome to . I got so caught up in the build . What kind of wood do you use soft wood or hard wood just wondering if you don't mind me asking .
I only used hard wood (maple walnut and mahogany). I believe soft wood are mostly used in acoustic guitars
Very good sound man! Congrats!
The awesome tone from the tonewood. The pickup would sound different on other tonewood.
I have no idea how it would sound on another guitar with a different tonewood. I get I was lucky but I love how this thing sounds.
@@tchiksguitars Different guitar will have a different tone even from the same pickup model. Try to believe it, it will sound different if you put it in a Strat or a Tele.

Te felicito, muy orgulloso de tu creación ha de sentirte, sigue con más creaciones, saludos !!!
Sounds great!!
ohhhh a perfect guitarist too!!
This is wonderful
i understood concept of clean without electro effects. But in the guitar cabinet, the phase is multiplied a little - the phase changes. & Room resonance recolours the sound a little.
The degree of absoluteness of the clean ultimately rests on the sensitivity ratio #front - rear# at the microph.
great work and excellent playing! i wish i could build my own guitar.
2:24 Cake-i will survive
Oh Mann... Verry manly sound... I like it
Отличный инструмент.👍
Hey man, don't you miss the 22th fret?
As you can tell, I'm not a shredder haha. So no, I don't miss it :)
Perfect!! Dude
Perfect
I've just seen the build video - here it is. That works well, very well - Telecaster in the background, who's is that? The sound balance is really good across the strings on both p/ups, really shouldn't need to use compression all that often. Congrats on a really nice build of a really handsome guitar.
Thank you for the kind words. The telecaster was my first build. 2 months before this one :)
@@tchiksguitars WWAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGHHH he made the Tele as well!
Haha
@@tchiksguitars I like your guitars good job friend. Its fun to watch you make them, its way more than I could ever do but still interesting because of all the work that goes into it. It must be so satisfying to play a instrument you made after 1-3 months of hard work.
How long have you been making guitars and why did get want to make your own? what got you started?
Also do you make instruments for other people or just for yourself??
God it's Gorgeous!
Have a cabinet effect naturally or is me.
hah you played a vulf song! my man!!!
:-) respect Bro ....wow
I like how it has a wide nut, looks almost 2 inches which is a classical guitar width. If you've played classical guitar for years going to a tiny Fender electric neck is so uncomfortable and awkward. More guitars oughta be made with the wide nuts.
How can one buy your guitar or have made one for themself???
Awesome 👍👍👍👍👍
Just amazing . I would like to build my own one day..
Then go at it ! It's easier than you think. Even with way less tools.
So when are you going to share the video for the Thinline?
It's the only guitar I built without filming it :) it was my first guitar build ever
3:15 is it Kaleo? What a good stuff
It's vulfpeck - Darwin derby :)
@@tchiksguitars no no, when u play with hi gain that riff on 3:15 sounds like Kaleo song rock n roller
Oh right ! It's rage againt the machine
@@tchiksguitars between ratm and vulf. Why ignore what riff u played on 3:15?
Haha my bad. I didn't know kaleo before. But I'm actually playing another ratm song (sleep now in the fire ). There are some similarities indeed with rock n roller
Thanks!
not sure if that is a tube amp- but get yourself a 5w small tube amp with reverb in it. Your guitar deserves better- amazing job! what a beauty
Thank you ! I like my amp for now, I did hesitate to buy a tube one at the time but they used to be very expensive :) this one served me well over the years
That cake solo. ❤️
ok 👍👍👍
Great!!!!
Was one of those riffs from The Stooges?
Not on purpose at least

Ive always wanted to see a danelectro 59 body with a supro headstock... rosewood fretboard...knob upgrades and some himbuckers 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Supro guitars are already super nice, I wouldn't swap the body for a danelectro 59 (and I've always found their headstock kinda weird looking. Like a long ass ukulele peghead).
tchiks guitars & furnitures yeah supro’s look great ... Ive just wondered how to make the 59 look and play a bit better
Damn.. that thing is bitchen.!
& Sounds fkn amazing.
nice work, position of the switch a bit awkward though
I know ! One of the wire was too short so I didn't have any other option. It's easy to get used to it though :) someday if I get extremely bored I will do a wire extension and fix it.
Clean chanel sound, coil sound is don,t understand, reverb, screamer. Whe is sound clean?
From 0:00 to 1:30 is the clean sound. No effect at all. No reverb no compression no distorsion no overdrive.
Кто-нибудь скажите этому человеку, что он переключатель датчиков верхногами установил :)

@@tchiksguitars I live in Russia and there are a lot of fakes from China,I don't want to buy them.Your guitars are made from the heart.I'm not a rich man, please rate your guitar, and I will save money to buy it
It's very kind, I don't sell my guitars for now because I'm not ready yet, it takes a lot of time to make one and I need to hone my skills as a guitar builder, but who knows, in some years :) thanks again for wanting to buy it ! Also, there are a tone of affordable really great guitars, well made and with an attention to details, in the 500 euros zone. From there you can change the pickups later on for 150 euros and maybe the pots (10 euros each for CTS pots), and maybe a fret job (I don't know the cost for that, but the frets themselves are very cheap), and boom! you have a custom guitar :p
Are u willing to sell or make a guitar by order?
Not yet. I need to get better at making them first :)
Can we order a guitar from you?
Hi not selling them :)
@@tchiksguitars hope you consider becoming a custom shop. That guitar is awesome. I would buy one like that.
Thanks a lot. Maybe in the far future :)
What woods are involved
Walnut maple mahogany
@@tchiksguitars any mahogany in the body

Look like an ibanez talman
It looks like a lot of things :)
No, i dont like. This is to much similar strato. The neck to short
i like it
Great skills but sounds a little disappointing.
i think the pickup must be a trouble...dont aspect this sound like shit
Yes does come how of.
no offense, but that amp sounds terrible
Awesome! Sounds as good as it looks!
Highly skilled craftsman, highly skilled guitarist.
Great build and range of tones! Also, nice CAKE solo!
Man, I don't even play the guitar (play 🎹), but I am loving watching the builds and the sound tests! Awesome!
Thanks !!
сделана аккуратно. А звук Ну как то не о чем...
Beautiful guitar
Very impressive video. I especially liked the sound of hypergravity compressor. Thank you!!
Beautiful build and the sound... congratulations love from INDIA

Definitley yes
Nice job!! 👏🏼👏🏼Sounds amazing!!
Please make a superstrat guitar with Floyd ❤
Show de bola 👏👏
Jesus Don’t Want Me for a Sunbeam?
Haha. I didn't even notice. This chord progression is soooooo common.
tchiks guitars & furnitures Absolutely. The V-IV-I turnaround is just about as common as I-V-vi-IV, I-vi-IV-V, and vi-IV-I-V in modern music, but the way in which you played it definitely stood out as Jesus Don’t Want Me for a Sunbeam to my grunge/punk biased ears. :)
Either way, great demo of a great build!
Thank you very much ! It does sound a lot like Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam
I like the overall shape of the headstock.
Elle est terrible !! Magnifique travail
Nice sound😍😍😍
Very well built and played Sir. The comments seem to be unduly critical. I can't say it's entirely to my taste but why should it be? I hope you love it as much as you hoped you would! I do have to ask though. Pickup selector is "upside down" by convention. I've wired a few guitars and have often got toggle switches the wrong way round. So, mistake or deliberate?
hey thank you, it is almost exactly as I wanted it to be and it makes me very proud :) about the pickup selector, it's not a mistake, or rather, I intentionally rotated the flip direction 90° clockwise because of a mistake : one wire was too short (hot wire between toggle switch and tone pot), and since I didn't want to unsolder two solder joints just to be "conventional" I kept it as is. Now in practice, it doesn't feel unnatural, or maybe I got used to it, because I play it a lot (it's my main guitar now).
Amazers😀🎧☺🙌🙏☕🍵🌾
