    • @feeeshmeister4311

      Alex Lanoux There is little, if any difference between analog and digital, but hearing live music is incomparably better than ANY recording.

    • @ilanrodriguez6127
      @ilanrodriguez6127 4 года назад +23

      @Alex Lanoux Dont forget that youtube compresses video and audio. Quality will be lost. Also, different speakers/playback devices have different response rates at different humidities, air pressures, angles, rooms. What also matters is the quality of the amp reproducing the sound. The sound is inevitably changed once its played back.
      I think what the author of this comment meant by digital recording is the youtube playback being a form of digital media. (Semantic difference of the word digital)
      I do agree with you on your comment since recording containers like FLAC are amazing and do preserve 99.99% of what they record.

    Can I put something straight? This is directed at all you people saying, "I wouldn't pay 45 million for a viola," or, "It doesn't sound any different from any other viola," or, "It's not the Viola, it's the violist."
    1. You wouldn't pay 45 million for it because (A), you probably don't even know how to play it, or (B), you don't know how valuable it is and can't hear the richness and colors of the tone that resonates from it. And not only its playability and sound, it also has a history. Made in the seventeen hundreds by one of the greatest luthiers in history, Antonio Stradivari. Depending on which Viola it is, it was probably passed down from some guy to another guy and sent as a gift to some other guy and yadda, yadda, yadda. Anyhow, it being 300 years old ALONE makes it priceless. You see, the older a string instrument is, the better it sounds, and the more the wood resonates. Search it up.

    • @joumanarashad2895
      @joumanarashad2895 8 лет назад +25

      2. It doesn't sound any different from other violas? ...What..? If you had a viola, or even heard a normal Viola, or played a normal Viola yourself, you would know that this Stradivari viola is exceptional in tone. Getting this sound out of any other instrument is extremely hard.

    • @joumanarashad2895
      @joumanarashad2895 8 лет назад +25

      3. "It's not the viola, it's the violist." This statement is partially correct, if a beginner played this Stradivari, it will sound horrible, but if David Aaron Carpenter played a cheap viola it wouldn't sound very good.
      Thank you for taking your time to read this.

      not only that. play that viola on a room with poor acoustic qualities and that 45 million dollars are a waste. in a live performance you might well notice the difference but there is no way you can tell the difference on a record unless it is quite well done. maybe you can say the armonics sound quite rich on that open strings but..... come on dude. 45 million lol

      mlaro888 This is actually real! If a musician plays really in tune, it sounds like a bunch of other notes are also being played. It's the overtone series at work. This is also why a good barber shop quartet sounds like there's like 20 guys singing - they're all so in tune that their chords get extra notes.

      mlaro888 in music there is something called the pyramid of sound. It is a structure of how much of each sound you need. ( bass is on the bottom and soprano instruments at the top). When you get the right balance of power like In a barbershop quartet or the right strings on the viola it makes the sound fuller and sound bigger than it actually is.

      I'm a musician and trust me, is not the person who plays the instrument, you can have the best musician in front... But if the instrument is not well developed, you would listen to a poor performance. it all depends on the instrument, the type of wood, how many years it has of existence, if you bought it by a lutherian or any other store, etc.

    • @lapiisdeii
      @lapiisdeii 8 лет назад +11

      I think that it's both the artist and the instrument. It does make a difference in sound quality if you play a well crafted instrument, but if you do not have the skill, it isn't possible to truly sound nice on a higher quality instrument. At least, that's what I have taken from listening to myself and other musicians.

    There was a study that found that even top violinists couldn't tell the difference between a Stradivarius and a modern (and less expensive) violin. The sound alone doesn't make the instrument worth millions. The price comes from the "brand name" and its value as a work of art with a history of being played by famous musicians. More expensive doesn't always mean a better sound.

    • @BandBHawks
      @BandBHawks 6 лет назад +15

      Zane Wilkerson old comment thread but whatever. Having played this piece many times, that chord and the one following it are really difficult to pull off well after you've been doing so many sixteenth notes for three minutes. It's easy to get really into a performance and no matter how great you sound up until then, you have to really coax that chord out of the instrument so it doesn't sound like... well, a car horn. Yeah it's dissonant but if you don't let each note sustain properly when you roll the chord, it just sounds messy. I say this having made that mistake almost every time I've played this piece lmao
