There is no accountability in corporate and political America....only the majority of those at the very bottom of the hourly wage scale are held accountable for their diminutive tasks. CEO, CFO, COO types are not...
As a fellow Techie I totally get your rage ESPECIALLY because working in tech you know some poor sap told the executives that there was a security liability that could potentially bring down the system , they asked him for a time estimate , and a work estimate, and because maintenence costs money they were totally willing to live with the consequences. We totally need a tech and technology security council who understands tech and holds these organizations accountable . The idea that an entire state could lose access to 911 is a HUGE national security issue and if i was an enemy of america i'd be taking notes
that's the issue they need to be fined heavily and these CEO's need to lose significant bonuses for the bullshit . they don'tget penalized enough to care
Make accountability a thing again. Otherwise complacency and incompetence will continue to grow and infect every facet of our existence until we become Rome 2.0.
When someone offers you the firewall admin job make sure you ask for 5x your normal salary as you will not be employed long. Its a expendable person role, the fall guy.
why the hell is it still Wild Wild West for the Internet in 2024 with regards to Security and such? I'll tell ya why "They don't give a fuck" and the governments don't force them to give a fuck give em slaps on the wrist and shit ($100 fine/violation of security and total the fines being $50K on a company that makes billions of dollars a year. it's fucked by design. Welcome to the enshitification of the world.
So security behind the firewall is so f@*king bad that just turning off the damn firewall would bring the whole system down? I think there is a much bigger problem than just a stinkin' firewall. You can control the firewall off of Bluetooth and Firewire, I hope? Maybe upgrade it's removable floppy disks from 10" to 8"? A new punch card reader? Echo doesn't go to a printer but to a monitor? A new $50 billion appropriation to study the best usage of firewalls in critical environments? I hope I'm being helpful. Vote for me!
They probably had HA with the firewalls. Sounds like either misconfiguration or something like AI incorrectly blocking traffic I've seen Darktrace blocking the wrong traffic enough times. Not sure auditors would help with that
That sounds like a fun project you were part of in the early 2000's. If I told you I got to apprentice for some of the best electrical workers in the country starting in 2007, you might understand my comment rants about the topic. When was the last time this print was verified? Heard that one a lot. Heard a lot of engineers argue it was recently verified... but when it is verified and it exposes someone did not do their job and that someone is some how important and you made them look bad... well... oh there I go on my rant again... just for doing my job properly... I'll shut up now I just got back pain from moving conduit for years of my life. It makes me grumpy.
....meanwhile in Chinaman Bad Land, Chang-e-6 returns to Earth safely...without Hollywood props. 😂🎉😅

Can we all agree that the regulations on telecom companies are useless? They don't follow them and then get fined what would be like $50 to us...

Similar to the average traffic fine
Haha, I like the idea of how China is to blame.

I am always angry too I feel the pain but I just have to laugh so I don't have an aneurysm.
mainly securing critical infrastructure isnt as important like it is to give people welfare checks
Or tax cuts
