It looks like they finally tuned the car to his driving style, kind of sucks last year was like throw away compared to his first season with the midfield team.
@@sadiemasokiss916 I’ve ALWAYS said the same thing. Circuit racing is just going around in a circle also, very different discipline though, and at least on ovals there’s constant passing. And don’t get me wrong, I like circuit and street courses but some of them like Monaco are real snoozers.
I am so gutted for Pato, he had lapped up to second place and was putting on a dominant show like we haven't seen for years. Yet it was still exciting to watch.
Put on a dominant show like we haven’t seen since… Newgarden. At Iowa. Twice last year (the second of those was WAY more heartbreaking than Pato at Texas…). It’s almost like Josef and Pato are the two best oval racers in the series right now.
Years ago oval racing was just not my thing, but these past two Indycar seasons oval weekends have been the ones I've been enjoying the most. It'd be nice if you covered the whole Indycar season!
Absolutely great recap of the race. The race was mental, amazing, cut throat, absolutely on the edge of my seat and standing on my feet until Grojean's crash. Great race from Newgarden and Pato
Im from Mexico, so the only way to watch Indy is through ESPN. During the broadcast one of the commentators said "With the way Grosjean is driving, either he wins the whole thing or he puts it in the wall". Let's just say he was spot on.
Much more entertaining than any F1 race. I've been to Monaco and other F1 races and Indycar is much more competitive and just try and predict a pole sitter or winner. Pretty easy to do that in F1 with only 3 or 4 drivers with that chance.
Nice video! And what a race, Texas does deliver. Well except for the scheduled 2001 CART race that got cancelled because the cars were pulling 4.5 lateral g's in the turns which was causing issues for the drivers. Also the drivers were thinking the track wasn't really safe for a crash at near 230 mph. Yeah the old CART Champ Cars had absolutely god tier levels of grip and speed .
Groasjean stabbed all of us Pato fans in the heart. I was so bummed in the stands, lol. I’m convinced it would have been Pato passing Newgarden on the last turn for the win
Gosh this race was intense. I'm not even mad it ended under yellow (although we would have never known if Pato could pass Newgarden), it was simply pure oval bliss.
See how positive this review was. The only dig that was left in there was at F1... so nothing new there. But i just love watching a Big Will Comedy Review without having to sigh every 7 seconds. Keep it up!
Josef Newgarden is an absolute monster on the ovals. Just NOT Indianapolis which is an ongoing mystery to me. Another great video Will, thank you for the entertainment. PS, I've added another like and a new subscription.
I didn't watch F1 when Grosjean was in his crashing prime, but reading comments on the F1 sub after this race that he hasn't changed at all really hurt. This guy must have been a different level of chaos in F1 lmao
2:40 There are 3 lanes in pit row. One being the pit boxes, middle and outer lane. Middle lane is for people going into the pit box. Outer lane is for cars who have left their pit box and going to track. Since Rossi was in the outer lane and deciding to turn in at a 50° angle (not measured and maybe an exaggeration) to get into his pit, there is no way for a spotter to know and give their driver leaving the pit a warning - creating a safety issue for drivers Rossi deserved his penalty
F1 fans… please stick around and enjoy, the product is finally getting better and better. We need the views and support. The racing itself is pretty damn good too.
For those who don't know IndyCar has a slow line and a fast lane in the pit Lane. You are only allowed to enter your pit box from the slow lane he tried to turn in from the fast lane he should have been given the penalty not Rossi
I saw some commentators saying that as well, but I saw multiple people pulling in from the "Fast Lane" throughout the race. Is this a written rule somewhere or more of a general guideline?
great recap commentary style. a little quick (perspective: not overly familiar with the recent indycar seasons), but I can rewind. I know there's the whole youtube algorithm to be concerned with lol
To be fair. I don't really blame Romain for that one, honestly. It was a racing deal, those things happen, see Michigan 2000 CART for a more brutal version when De Ferran moved right and took someone out at 230+ mph. I still don't really like Texas though, okay I know bits of why, it was the IRL's emphasis on oh let's have pack racing in 1997 (actually the 97 Tru Value 500 would be a good comedy review), and the side by side wheel to wheel with those cars, and what would happen in the 2000s/2011 put me off the ovel pack racing personally. I'm glad the cars can move around now and aren't side by side for 250 laps. That only works in stock cars, not open wheel cars though...
It's Pato, Leclerc, and Nico because Nico was P4 in the last lap(s) of the Australian GP and would have been on the podium but the FIA reset the order prior to the restart though P8 isn't a bad finish.
Grosjean and Sato throwing it into the wall on those easy circle tracks. Good thing they don't have some kind of pedigree in some self proclaimed pinnacle of motorsport. That'd be silly!
Weave much, Joseph? Newgarden took one from Power’s, “He’ll have to crash if he wants to pass!”, comment / attitude (Elkhart Lake). Penske are the most unsportsmanlike team and have been for decades. Enjoy your laurels Mr. Turketarian, I’m not sure I could.
Pato got absolutely robbed. I was there on Sunday and his mid-corner speed was absurd compared to everyone else - especially through 1 & 2. I also don’t understand how multiple cars who are a lap down get a free pass under caution..? I get Newgarden being able to close up.. but why the fk should a caution allow anyone to trim 40+ seconds off of their gap to the leader?? Palou had no business even sticking his nose into the race for the win. Without a caution he was ONE MINUTE behind Pato with ~50 to go.
Welcome to the club of complaining about IndyCar's wave around rule. IMSA has the same dumb rule. Here's my understanding of how it works: If everyone on the lead lap comes to pit under a yellow flag, everyone that is at least a lap down gets waved by the safety car (because now they are technically between the safety car and the leader). Then, if any of them want to come down pit road, they get that opportunity. It's stupid, I hate it, and I much prefer NASCAR's version: Lead lap cars pit first time by, lap down cars pit second time by. Anyone that doesn't pit is now between the leader and the safety car and can by waved by to get their lap back. But they pay the price in not being able to pit. It adds another strategy angle. Even NASCAR's lucky dog is not nearly as bad as IndyCar and IMSA's wave by rules.
Grosjean delivered as always, making all the correct decisions, and then throwing himself in to a wall, this man is on fire
He’s used to it
The most Grosjean thing possible.
Yikes. Massive yikes. Always best to keep your words to yourself instead of being an asshole 😬
typical grosjean, he will be reborn for the next race
It looks like they finally tuned the car to his driving style, kind of sucks last year was like throw away compared to his first season with the midfield team.
Keep it up Will! We need the whole INDYCAR season from you!
Grosjean must be intentionally trying to hurt me.
It seems he's back in his old behaviour like when he started with F1. Fast but wrecky.
@@axemanracing6222 This really feels like his lotus days.
Both incidents were kind of understandable on his part but still, gotta finish races.
I need to stop watching the full race to root for him. So far every race I watch 100% has him wrecking out. Sorry Grosjean.
@@axemanracing6222 yeah because the accident before this was totally his fault lmao
Watch him in F1, he was almost always terrible. Why, if you do, do you root for this dude?
What a race. Glad some people in the UK got to enjoy some Oval racing. Hopefully the Indy 500 is this good
@MyDisappointmentIsImmesurable isn't all circuit racing just going around in circles? If you simplified it enough

I was in the crowd with his merch on and it was heartbreaking indeed. He definitely could have come out on top. Incredible race nonetheless
hes still champ leader with those really strong races!

@psychlops924 Except Josef is weirdly bad at Indy...but a beast at every other oval.
Didn't palou absolutely destroy everyone at Laguna sega last year?
Think the Indy car stuff is a great addition. Been a huge fan of it for longer than I care to remember. Keep it up mate.
Thanks Chris! It’s a great breath of fresh air away from f1 I find!

Yeah those Cart cars are pushing near 1k hp and with the amount of downforce they're making, the drivers are basically put into a large centrifuge.
Groasjean stabbed all of us Pato fans in the heart. I was so bummed in the stands, lol. I’m convinced it would have been Pato passing Newgarden on the last turn for the win
That's what I think as well, Pato crossed the S/F line in front of Josef on the last lap before the yellow.
It looked like pato was literally practicing the last lap pass in the prior laps. He would wait, pull out, pass and be ahead at the line. Then roman….
A lot more entertaining than the official review! 😂👍
Gosh this race was intense. I'm not even mad it ended under yellow (although we would have never known if Pato could pass Newgarden), it was simply pure oval bliss.
The last 15 laps of this race was utterly legendary.

'I'LL try spinning, thats a good trick" - Grosjean in anything.
There are only 15 races left. Thanks for the laughs.

I find it puzzling that this track is such a bore over in Nascar but brings us bangers like this in Indycar.
normally Texas is boring or a trainwreck though
