Rory McCarthy goes underground to watch the everyday smuggling of boxes of women's underwear, car parts and even goats... Everybody knows. It was never a secret.
Israel always knew about the tunnels. Obviously Egypt knew. The Americans knew, too, of course. Actually, everybody knew. There's a more than 15 years old article in "The Guardian" titled "Inside the Gaza tunnels" published just after the First Gaza War, which was called "Operation Cast Lead" by the IDF and was called "the Battle of al-Furqan" by Hamas; which began on 27 December 2008 and ended on 18 January 2009. The article came out on 10 February 2009. Reportedly, the tunnels were one of Israel's key targets during its three-week assault on Gaza. But the relentless air strikes failed to destroy the hundreds of tunnels running under the border to Egypt. The journalist who wrote this article, Rory McCarthy went underground to watch the everyday smuggling of boxes of women's underwear, car parts and even goats... There's a photo of a man with a goat crawling through in the tunnel. Allegedly, Israel has allowed the commercial tunnel economy to function as part of a broader campaign to break Gaza's economic and political links with Israel and to force it towards a dependent relationship with Egypt.

I donot think so.
