In this video we discuss the increasingly deranged behavior of lefty streamer Xanderhal. From drama farming to mental breakdowns to refusing to pay his editor, we have a lot to go over. DemonMama has more thorough receipts, but we want to dive in and give our commentary here.

The most bizarre thing about Xanderhal going on that whole "Vaush might as well be supporting Trump" rant is that not only were the criticisms against Biden completely validated by everything that has happened since he dropped out (voter base reenergized, polls skyrocketing, Republicans in despair), Vaush's recent content has been overwhelmingly pro-Kamala and Walz. He's maintained his general criticisms against Kamala and the Dems while also acknowledging that they're making all the right decisions now and that there's reason to be hopeful. I can't remember the last time his content was this optimistic and pro-Democrat, so for that to be Xanderhal's angle to turn on him and burn the bridge out of the blue is so odd.
(Keep up the good work! Sending love from Brazil 🌻)

Who will you vote for? Harris or Trump?
You all must understand! Trump is the reason my grandmother died, he is the reason my best friend's dad died from Covid, he is the reason he took the happiness of me and my family, and he is the reason a lot of the immigrant kids were separated from their parents at the Mexican Border! Trump and all the people who support him caused me so much pain! All their yelling, all their hate, all their support of Trump, DeSantis, & Musk, all their lack of sympathy, and all their self-entitlement has caused me and others like me SO MUCH EMOTIONAL PAIN! They don't understand all the horrible things Trump has done! Donald Trump must NOT be elected again, never again! People who support Trump, RFK Jr, Elon Musk, and/or Libertarians cause me so much pain. Xan was my intro to the online left two years ago, and I found Keffals shortly after. They showed me that lefties can be a little edgy, or at least something different from the uptight, perpetually offended snowflakes that I saw while I was in the alt right.
For me, getting out of the alt right was easy, the hard part was getting the alt right out of me. Xanderhal was the first step of that journey, and he’s the reason I am in your comment section right now. Maybe it’s time I move on from him.

Tis unfortunately kinda the nature of growth and change as time goes on, sometimes the people who inspire us to be better, move in very different directions than they inspired us to travel in initially. But this is the journey of life, sometimes our heroes disappoint, sometimes they outperform expectations and hopes, and there is no formula for knowing who is gonna wind up traveling in what direction in the long term. Best of fortunes to you, and genuinely it is always wonderful to hear folks talk about their journey and path of growth ^,^

not attacking you, but just in case you havent realized it, most of those "perpetually offended snowflakes" were young ppl (teens in high school or beginning of college) without social support, often including discrimination by teachers and school staff, as well as parents. i was one of them because everyone turned their back on me, so the inhibition to be loud and angry was gone, since that's how i was treated no matter what i did. it isn't healthy, but it is healthy to have compassion for people who were hurting. i suspect that you felt similarly when you were in the alt right. glad you made it out. much love

    • @Spooky_Magooky
      @Spooky_Magooky Месяц назад +14

Honestly I think a very formative step of deprogramming your own bigoted/conservative beliefs and biases is moving on and growing past those initial role models and content creators that were part of your first steps moving out of the alt-right pipeline. I definitely think there are still people who kind of relapse or hold on to their edgy habits or are just damaged and abused from being in those alt-right and reactionary spaces. I think the Xanderhall situation is a mirror that can be put up to yourself and see what you should try an avoid becoming.
I do often get reminded of a quote from one of the Alt-Right Playbook videos of "Bringing someone who's a bit of a Nazi but working on it into diverse spaces is questionable" which obviously isn't always representative of the situation on hand but speaks to how there are levels and steps to de-radicalisation which can cause issues.

It doesn't sound like he does make enough to not check his account, it sounds like he was not checking his account anyway. I've gone through phases where that was hard to check (likely caused by some combo of ADHD and depression). Some of his panic over moving details would be consistent of that too. It doesn't excuse his behavior of course, even if a similar issue is at play.

I had this type of mistake happen once (the employee mistakenly gave me the routing number for international wire transfers) so they didn’t get their check. All I had to do was call my payroll company, put a stop/reversal on the payment and re-issue the payment to the correct account. It took like 15 minutes tops. If he’d been paying enough attention to notice the problem sooner it would never have been an issue.

I dropped a preliminary comment mentioning the way that people grow comfortable with the way that they have been living and how even when someone is well off it can seem to them like they are gonna lose everything if they lose any of the comforts they rely on...but it feels so insufficient with the rest of this mess. It really sounds like he needs some serious therapy over so many topics, but as with so many other people, it is unlikely at this point for him to recognize that need while he has fans puffing him up, and as noted, therapy wont help if a person isnt actively seeking to rectify things. I wish i was more hopeful about this, and am glad to hear that Keffals is actually gonna leave streaming behind, but ive seen too many other people just keep digging for their entire lives, and thats before even adding the fanbase into the mix, which has consistently shown an insulating factor against recognizing the need for the majority of folks.

If he didn't have a revenue stream I might be less inclined to point out this failure of his. If he wasn't making public death threats and fucking up his employee's livelihood I might be less inclined as well. So no, I'm not talking shit about people who never learned how to do finances who are getting started as adults and are crashing and burning in their own situation. I'm not being anti-poor. I'm talking about Xanderhal specifically, who is actively dragging others with him, and continuing to not learn basic lessons in how to be an adult, and instead is continuing to make other people adult for him, and trying to pretend he's rich enough to have that not cause problems for others. It's causing problems.

I've catastrophized about people who were being flaky about contacting me, and managed to not spam them (I have occasionally double-texted and such but only when other important things were happening and I had no other way to contact them, never to soothe my own catastrophizing, even like the times when I've called repeatedly, that was exclusively because there were issues that needed to be resolved involving those people and I was the only point of contact because Idk, honestly, mental health stuff on the other end I think). Honestly, I was subbed to Xan because I liked his takes more than Vaush's (especially as a pagan; that one debate Vaush did really soured me on him because he was not listening at all), but maybe it's time for me not to be. 31:00 he sounds like he has severe audhd. I, too, am terrible with finances, barely look at my account and when I can afford to pay someone to manage my YT analytics and comments and analyse trends, and sponsors and such I will absolutely be doing that (not this channel). I also get very anxious and upset when something doesn't happen the way I expect. My executive function is completely shot. But... I still look at my account before making a big purchase. I still want to make my own thumbnails, edit and all that stuff. I need a channel manager and PR person, someone to handle the more businessy side of the channel and let me know if there's something wrong without me having to read a bunch of abuse. I have a carer currently who manages my finances and appointments and all that because I just straight up forget and if a payment isn't coming through she knows about it and handles it. Without her I legit would be on the street because that is how incompetent I am at remembering and managing this stuff. It would be weeks before I realise something is off. I was paying for animelab for years after it had shut down because I was that bad at keeping track. I understand if Xan needed Cherry to manage that stuff but if Cherry wasn't expected to be on top of that shit then he should have been and if he wasn't able to then Cherry should have been given the tools to do so. And if all he's doing for his job is being the face in the videos then Cherry isn't an employee, they're a partner.

I am NOT excusing Xan. I do not watch his content. I am NOT a fan, but I am aware of his personal history. The only teeny itsy bitsy bit of grace I could give him is that he might not actually see his behavior towards Cherry as being abusive. People who've been reared in toxic environments often do not have great boundaries on acceptable behavior. They scream and yell and overreact because that behavior has been modeled for them. He is still young, but he is approaching an age where it is going to be increasingly hard for him to change the way he behaves without great effort. Younger people have more plastic personality styles. I am doubtful he will see the error in his behavior because he refuses to take on any small measure of constructive criticism. I hope I am wrong. I hope he decides that he should listen to some of his more well meaning critics, former friends, etc, and take their point of view to heart. In particular he needs to gain a better understanding that human beings cannot go around yelling at those they call "friend" because they are having problems. The world is not your punching bag because you are anxious. I have a brother in law that does these sorts of things. He has an anxiety disorder and instead of melting down inside like most of us, he explodes on any nearby target without considering that they aren't responsible for his problems.

While I don't like the feminist narrative that when men experience this as loss of control, it's inherently refusing accountability (or the villainizing us by claiming this is us seeking control over others) but the thing is, it's our job to maintain it nonetheless.
There's a reason why I'm always apologetic when that happens and why it's ultimately what got me to seek treatment. I wasn't happy like that and I didn't want to be a toxic person.

He tends to see people and situations in rather black-and-white terms and tends to go "scorched earth" when triggered, which results in him treating even his friends and allies in toxic and abusive ways. I do wanna say her off topic but u said in one stream that ur cat‘s name is „mitternacht“ wich is fun to hear as a german. But u might wanna work on the pronounciation cause the way you said it „middernackt“sounds less like midnight and more like „middle naked“ cause „nackt“ in german translates to naked. So yeah u might wanna do it with the hissing sound u know the „ch“ sound. It might be a bit intimidating but if u try to just hiss when saying that ch part it will sound more accurate. „Also tt in german is pronounced in a harsher way. Not „midder“ but „mitter“ with the hard kind of t u use in words like „tired or tomorrow.
Also another thing regarding the ch sound, what i also see is in americans that they sometimes struggle with how hard they do it wich makes it sound a bit harsh too. So u might wanna try to aim for a softer hiss in that. I know it can be tough to learn vocalization that is unnatural to what u were raised with but it‘s always fun to learn new stuff. It was the same for me and the american r sound and how the german r comes from the throat while the american feels more like it‘s coming from ur tongue being curled or something like that. It was also hard for me to learn bur it was fun too :D
Just a little tangent nerd out for you ^^ cause i love watching americans use german it‘s cool seeing ppl using your language :3

    • @maiarustad5062
      @maiarustad5062 17 дней назад

Aw yes, I’m also fascinated by that but from the opposite direction! I’m a native English speaker who grew up with German around occasionally (mom and Opa moved from Germany when she was young). So I grew up learning sounds like the ch in “danke gleichfalls” or the R in “uncle Rolf” that were totally unused in any English words. Then I took Spanish which has sounds that neither German nor English have!
If you take Spanish and you compare their rolled r’s to the German glottal r’s to the English r’s, it gets so wacky and fascinating!
      (Nerdy linguistics rant below)
Also, while your examples of “tired” and “tomorrow” would get closer to the right sound than the “d” sound luxander uses, there’s still noticeably more breath behind those than the German t. We tend to have our t’s trail into a bit of a hiss, verging into being more of an affricate rather than the strict plosive of many german t’s. In German, both d and t are distinct alveolar plosives. (Alveolar is the bit of your mouth behind your teeth your tongue touches when making d/t/s sounds, plosives are sounds that are a sudden and brief expulsion of air rather than a sustained and restricted release of air (a fricative), or a sound that starts as an expulsion but is then extended into an expanded sound (an affricate, like ts or ch))
(its totally possible you’re a linguistics nerd like me and I don’t need to explain those terms to you, but I’m doing it anyway cuz I think this is so interesting and I love infodumping about special interests!)
The difference in t and d, for most languages and accents, comes down to t being voiceless and d being voiced. This is because the affricate “ts” sound as a distinct phoneme is used in other languages (most often in German, usually spelled there as “z”), requiring it to be a difference the German ear is aware of and able to distinguish when both speaking and listening. But the “ts” affricate doesn’t really occur in English. So some English accents have allowed their plosive t’s to slide and become more similar to the affricate “ts”. The two become more or less synonymous to our ears, a difference in accent rather than a difference in meaning. Since we don’t use the “ts” in other words it doesn’t get things mixed up.
But this means that, in our minds, the distinction between the “t” and the “ts” is much less obvious! So when we are trying to pronounce a German plosive t, we can hear a difference, we can hear that it’s a strict alveolar plosive, that it’s different type of t. And so we go with trying to partially emulate the one strict alveolar plosive we commonly use with our accent, the voiced alveolar plosive, the “d”.

I've found that I disagree with him on some politics, like the guns, but yk I'm not gonna unsub from people just because we disagree on something, no two people will agree on everything and that's alright. But yeah I found myself disagreeing with him more and more as time went on and the Keffals drama was a huge hit, since I watched her too and from the discussion they had, it made Xan look really childish and irresponsible, basically making drama out of something that could have been resolved in a private conversation if he was reasonable. It also looked like he just burned the bridge out of nowhere ( something that seems to be a reoccuring issue ), for the slightest problem. Also really glad that it turned out both of the people I used to watch turned out to be pos ( this is sarcasm, just incase someone doesn't get it ).
This current drama is like the final nail in the coffin. The stuff he did and said was really bad - like my guy I know Keffals did a bad thing and personally did you wrong ( in your opinion ) but describing how you want to murder her by beating her up with a gun is fucked up.
I think it's pretty clear he's been suffering from some mental health issue and trauma. Plut the weed probably doesn't help, seems like it fried his brain... In any case I hope he gets help, but that's only gonna happen when he himself chooses that, I don't think there is any getting through to him.

I'm honestly one of those people who started off dismissing DM because imo she mischaracterized a few of his arguments and I decided to tune out of the whole thing. I didn't want to completely stop watching either of them but after watching a 3rd party, who doesn't regularly interact with either of them to my knowledge, cover DM's videos I don't think I can even watch xan anymore.

I really used to like xanderhal, and I dont have anything that specifically pushed me to stop watching his content, he just started saying weird things that weren't necessarily bad or good. They were just weird. Then he started snipping at Vaush, and I washed my hands of the whole thing long before it blew up.

Xanderhal started the beef with Keffals before he knew the information, he found out, wanted to go public with it since the entire community was turning on him, and instead of saying "my bad Im sorry" he started pressuring people so he could get that info "to win over the losers" and get his community back on his side.
    Edit: Just as Gayfesh said

EDIT: So he's a paid propagandist now? That's great, good for them that makes me want him to break off the V cult even more now.

11:35 onwards, Idk if this changes the framing on any of this, but I think Xan, Vaush, Keffels, and Demonmama were all part of the collective White Forest, which means that they're all financially motivated not to go after each other. While Xan is clearly not well and his mental health probably plays a huge factor in a lot of his decision-making, there might honestly be something to the idea that he wanted people to know something really stunk with Keffel's behavior because it was the responsible thing to do for people who are sending her tons of money, but was shut down by other people who all financially benefit from each other. This is a more cynical perspective, but I also think it should be something to consider.
People are complicated, and a kind of rashomon effect is real. Something about this situation makes me cautious about taking the reasoning Demonmama gives at face value. The fact that there is also a real possibility that Demonmama herself might have a pattern of underpaying her employees based on Glooby's experiences working for her, as well her protecting potentially predatory people doesn't make me any less cautious either.

This is the thing with Xan, he's a right wing leftist. Remember, he came out of being a republican conservative, in a red state; His brain still thinks in the way it was programmed to by them, and loyalty is one of their big things. Besides that, he's much much more a centrist liberal than anything noticeably left. The reality is, things have gotten so out of hand nationally and globally that policies that are 'leftist' are just plainly common sense, and issues that are 'socialist' or leftist are common place. Not taking the positions he has that are leftist, are out of survival and common sense, rather than a tie to any given cause.

this really sucks to watch because I've been through similar types of abuse, and I had to work hard to fight off this very paranoid, distrusting, catastrophizing behavior. It strained my relationships but I got care from the right people at the right time and I've grown a lot since then. Trusting people is very scary but most of them aren't out to take advantage of that trust.
I feel like as survivors of abuse we have a special responsibility to not repeat the evils that made us.
