Man of many talents, Lowe composed and performed the funky synth intro music, under his stage name Stoneface. On occasion he was backed by the Quarrymen. Not many people are aware of this, on account of it not being true.
+Darts Review Channel : ))) I'm also collecting dart sets, although I don't have access to really old ones. BTW - please continue with the reviews. I really like your videos.
+Darts Review Channel That is a great idea! I'm sure that would be appreciated by everybody, especially us in Eastern Europe :) We don't really get the chance to see real old stuff.
I grew up throwing an original pair of John's phase 1 prototypes. When he wanted a shorter barrel. He gave a set to my dad (rip Terry) when John was given 3 sets/weights to chose from. A family member stole them the day after he passed away.
as a kid I was a Bristow fan . Stepfather was a Lowe fan So I chose the other one . We hated each other . . I now have a Whole new respect for the guy . He was great anyway . Hey I was a kid .LEGEND
@David Shreeves, I just want to say, thank you. I have not laughed so much in ages, all those time stamps and your comments added to them, oh boy, I was in tears. Bravo my man, Bravo.
Christmas Day 1989... I bought my 9 year old son a darts board and a set of darts. He was so happy and could not wait to throw them... But I INSISTED he watched this video first in the spare room to appreciate the art. I popped in the spare room after 45 mins to see what he thought so far, and he wasn't there... He had left the house and ran away! Haven't seen him since.
He's right about the measurements, back in the 80's we used to win the league every year as teenagers. Pubs hated us so they put the boards an inch higher and made the throws longer. Cheats never prosper so we carried on thrashing the old bastids every week. My favourite throw on a dartboard is the Bullseye and that's from watching the Legend John Lowe all those years ago.
Double in double out, that's one way to practice doubles. I regularly throw doubles round the clock, on my own. Double 1, double 2, 3, 4 etc. Finish on the Bull's Eye of course. I think that's a better way to practice doubles.
Did they ever get the other tape with all the games John mentioned at the end done?Anyone know the name of it if they did?I'd love to have it to help practice by.
wow...hmmm interesting how times have changed. I do love what he says about double start but disagree. Id say right side of the board is easier for lefties to hit, and left side is easier for righties hit. generally your motion is going to tale across your body. Also people dont go for double top to start just because it is the biggest double, but it also keeps you in line with the board. if you throw for a double straight in the top you dont have to adjust, you are in line with trip 20

+David Shreeves Yea - I got the idea that you were not malicious. Hmm...so you're saying that some comments are still missing? Strange, 'cause I've approved all of them. I do not delete any type of comment from any videos I've put up. People can say whatever they like.

Man, I could listen to John Lowe talk for hours. Thank you uploader!
I reckon you'd fall asleep about 15mins in tho lol
Even if he was talking utter filth to your mum?
John Lowe is such an amazing exponent and scholar of the game... has the best throw in Darts to this day, in my opinion.
Barney with the best throw IMO.
Great upload for insomniacs everywhere.
That video is what got me into collecting vintage darts, Mr Lowe has cost me a small fortune! :)
+Darts Review Channel : ))) I'm also collecting dart sets, although I don't have access to really old ones. BTW - please continue with the reviews. I really like your videos.

Been meaning to do it for a long time but not had time really, hopefully soon :)
The vid might get me into collecting vintage darts videos :D
Wish I would have watch3d this a year ago as a beginner. A great place to learn a lot in a short period of time. Outstanding

So glad I found this
I have my unicorn John Lowe darts still, and all the original packaging from about 1980/1981. 21.6 grams, and yes from new they had short points. 😎
Very good video by the biggest inspiration in darts that is John Lowe :D
The intro music is astounding
The True Master

My brother had exactly the same board. Brilliant
WTF John Terry is doing there hahahaha
Seen him blinking right after he said he don't blink. HAHA.
Great Advice, R.I.P....Mr Phil Jones.

Kani, thats a strange story
Mr Fuker, I admire your guile, Ingenuity and wily ways in general.
Dave Garnett and Alan Mallyon invented the video score seen in this video seems very old fashion now, fun days.
I still have one !!
Alan Mallyon lmao nothing like giving yourself a pat on the back
yep, can't get anyone to do it for me now. :)

"double 3 is the hardest"
I played for a bit and it was the only one I could hit lol
John Lowe's hair looks like it was spray painted on.😂😂
20 year old Ritchie at the end. Amazing.
Fuckin state of that hair
Very interesting video, love darts and john lowe obviously knows his stuff
11.07 30 hours a day? There must have been more hours in a day back then.
lee he used to throw with both hands at the same time for 6 hours a day
best hairstyle in sports
Been watching over half an hour and he hasn't thrown a dart yet! ROFL
It’s funny how some how something simple like SlikSticks are still around and used today. Full circle moments….
I have a set since 2010. Obviously, I use it very rarely, but it still did not break.
Fascinating video! When was this recorded?
@Adam Oliver The same year that John Lowe hit the first televised 9 dart finish.
1984

There's 180 upvotes. Nobody should upvote anymore.
What a brilliant and weird video
44:55 one of the best shaft systems ever invented
Just heard him say for winning a game you could earn £10,000 for a final, I’ve just seen Peter Wright win £500,000 how times change! Lol
You could buy a house for that 40 years ago 😂.
£16 for a dartboard in 1983 would be £67 in 2024
John needs to do a range of audio book's to help insomniac's.
I wish i could buy darts at those prices 😂
I´d really like to have one of the so-called "elecrtonic devices" :)
Those shiny shoes ..nice..!
love this vid
Dart boards have never been made of pig bristle! Where did John Lowe get that one from?
