    Nutnfancy, this is my first post to you. I discovered you on RUclips by accident. When I saw the length of the video, "The Perfect AR 15". This was the answer to my weapons video needs. Nutn, you give information about firearms and you don't BS around giving it. Your POU is something I use. As gunowners I think we should realize that firearms are not just for show, they're tools for defense and possibly to save a human life.

    I have a Remington 700 AAC-SD .308 and so far have taken 2 Deer with it.. One at 204 Yards and one at 40 yards. I installed the KRG Bolt Knob 2 days before I saw your review.. Amazing knob! I absolutely LOVE my AAC-SD, I grew up on Remington 700's just like you did, but my first rifle was a Marlin .30-30 LA. Great rifle out of the box and highly recommend it to EVERYONE.

    I would like to see a video somewhere down the line discussing magnification.. a good in depth review talking about just how much power do you really need for cqc, target, varmint, hunting, and long range...I think that would be a great table top...I myself am wondering how much magnification I really need for my new 700 VLS to slay varmints out to 300 yards...love the project and keep up the good work

    Gotta say, thanks for forging ahead and going through the hassle of getting some suppressors in front of the camera. I had zero experience with them before moving to NZ, but now I just HATE to shoot suppressed. I almost always now consider a suppressor to be good-weight and I'm glad you're leaning that way as well. :-)

    I have a 700 police heavy barrel chambered in .308, 1/10 twist, only modification is a suppressor and trigger lightened down to 2.5lbs. worked up a load using IMR4064 and 178gr Amax and now have fairly consistent .3moa groupings. just proves that stock upgrades aren't really necessary... if you want to tighten your groups, buy a reloading press and work up a load. ammunition is 99% of most accuracy problems, most guns come with a

    This is my sad joy. Friday night and I'm stoked that there's a feature-length Nutnfancy vid to watch on RUclips.

    I just love your reviews. I can just zoom in and out on each chapter if I want to view selectively, but above all, I love the level of detail you take on your subject matter. You love it, you are passionate about it, you are totally into it. For example, the "second kind of cool" you mention in your reviews. Why any channel would have detractors rather than non-viewers is foreign to me.
    Keep on keeping on, I rely on you, can personally relate to your values on self reliance and personal accountability. Thanks for the hours of research, sweat, and time you pour into your channel.

    I had 700 feeding issues after installing one in a new stock years ago "chasing the better mousetrap", I found out that I had inadvertently squeezed the box mag and bent it slightly (thusly rubbing the follower), in my case it was a stock that was just a bit to tight, but it can also happen just by being a little rough dis/reassembling it, and once or twice later on in life I failed to reassembled the box into the receiver correctly, easier than it sounds (not saying that is your issue but maybe for someone watching this vid)
    I really like how your build came out, no extra bs thats not needed, a well made but not over built suppressor, the very low scope mount & trustworthy harris.
    While I do own a couple 700's they are not my favorite bolt guns (pre 64 winchester fan here), but the military did build & use thousands of sniper systems based on it, just saying.
    Thanks for another stellar vid man, and all you do for the Republic, (and damn I gotta get myself a can some day) Later......

    I have a 700 PSS in .308 that will put 5 rounds into a soda can, at 300 yards, EVERY time (except for rare goofs)... Other than the trigger job and the Sprinfield Gummit 4-14x56, I would not do one thing to it. I gave it a "molecular break-in" and, after ~400 rounds of GM308M (and M2), it is just now getting sweetened up.
    ... I am sitting on a 500 round case of GM308M and some of that will go to my SR-25T but the 700 will get it's share.

    I'm happy to see Nutn embrace sound suppressors! Many benefits for all shooters. Helps prevent hearing loss, especially in an emergency or accident. For military/police/WROL/self-defense, it also means lighter hearing protection can be used for better situational awareness and helps prevent being discovered by the enemy. Camouflage can only do so much when every bad guy for miles turns his head in your direction at once. I wouldn't want to go into hostile territory without one.

  • @3640timm

    I have a Remington 700 tactical fluted barrel 1 in 9 twist, running factory stock and trigger with a Nikon monarch BDC 20 power scope. I have not measured trigger pull but my guess would be in the 3 pound range with a supper crisp break. Averageing with core lock and PMC less then half inch groups at 100 yards, inch groups at 200 yards.
    The groups you are showing, I would be seriously dissapointed with out my rifle. Don't know if its shooter, ammo or rifle but doesn't seem like the full potential of the rifle is being realized. But compared to what I can do with my 700 and what you are showing there is a huge difference in accuracy.
    Enjoyed the video, keep them coming.

  • @dsisson5184

    Great video! Felt like I was talking with the guys at my local club. Lots of good advice. I'm currently improving my .223 700 Varmint ADL. Got it for $270 after rebate on a Black Friday deal a few yeas ago. Just replaced the heavy non-adjustable factory trigger with the straight blade Timney. Huge improvement for $110. Groups have tightened up to 1 MOA with the flimsy synthetic factory stock running PMC!

    • @dsisson5184
      @dsisson5184 10 лет назад

      Next up is the stock. And my feelings on that change with the winds. Weight is not an issue for me. The heavy varmint barrel in .223 is extremely heavy by itself. This rifle will always just be a bench gun. I started looking at some expensive options to get adjust-ability, but just like you recommended, I've decided to save the money for a better platform. Now my goal is to get the best bang for the buck and try to get it sub-moa with a total under $850. 700 Varmint $270, 4x16-50mm Millet scope $240, Timney trigger $110, only leaves me $230 for stock. That'll be tough since it's unfortunately an ADL so I'll need bottom metal as well to use most aftermarket stocks. Off to eBay to look for a used Hogue.

    • @FluxMotivation
      @FluxMotivation 10 лет назад

      Midway.usa has stocks specifically for the ADL model. take a look there, stocks like bell and Carlson and H&S precision

    • @dsisson5184
      @dsisson5184 10 лет назад

      FluxMotivation Thanks for the heads up. The H&S and Bell Carlson are more than I want to spend. But I found the Choate Ultimate Sniper @ Midway for $200. I know it's heavy but this rifle is purely bench/varmint and the adjust-ability is just what I'm looking for.

    You can further adjust the x mark pro trigger. If you remove the stock there is another screw on the front of the trigger assembly that can be used to adjust the trigger pull weight.

    • @Ryansrangereport
      @Ryansrangereport 11 лет назад

    • @Duckhunterbow
      @Duckhunterbow 11 лет назад

      I just looked and mine isn't the x mark pro. It doesn't have the screw on the actual trigger. It's in a sps tactical, must have been from right before they switched to the new trigger. It still looks about the same. That one was easy to adjust though. Its at 2 pounds now.

    You guys gatta up that stock for the SSD. Also you need to bend and adjust the spring and follower to assist with feeding for the 700. Its a common issue with a simeple fix. I cant recall the procedure but I did it with mine. No problems thus far. You need to tilt the follow by bending the spring just a touch. Try that out and see how it goes. GL and Nice shooting!

    Trexler Industries makes the Kwik Klip for short action Remington 700. Have one installed in a sps in 308 and like it. I have the 4 round mag they make a 10 round. Cost about 100 for set up. There are no modifications needed. You will have to work with the shims to get it smooth but once squared away works well. Also seems well built for the money.

    Free +1 magazine mod for the Remington 700 (BDL): There are two tabs on the bottom of the stamped steel follower of the internal magazine. If you remove those tabs (dremel cutting wheel works well), it should allow you to load one more round inside the rifle without any feeding issues.

      I'm a lefty too I shoot a right handed gun left handed and operate the bolt with my right hand it makes follow up shots much quicker however it only works with a bipod or other solid rest it doesn't work well off hand or off tripod just a suggestion I actually never considered it until someone at a range suggested after watching me shoot a pistol left handed and a rifle right handed.

    I think it's cool that NNF is getting into long range. I only wish he was a lil more open minded. I guess it depends on how far he plans on shooting,and what type of shooting he wants to do.

    Great video. That plate shooting at the end was sick! Have you ever considered doing a shoot like that with lever guns, just to see how they would compare? I inherited a Savage model 99E (.308) from ny dad that seems to be pretty darn accurate. Maybe throw in a Browning, etc .They of course would have to be threaded to run a can, which might be cost prohibitive. Just a thought.

    I know this is an old vid but just wanted to throw a solution for the crappy ejection for the 700, and many gunsmiths can do it, that is to add an m16 extractor to the bolt. Area 419, LRI, Badger, and others offer the service.
    Note: I am not trying to advertise for anyone just want to put the option out there. However I would personally recommend it especially for both the ".590"/magnums, and for the ".380"/223 bolt faces, but the standard .480 bolt face will benefit as well.

    Hey Nutn. I know this is an older vid. and your love for the Rem. 700 has waivered some, but I ran across Ammo Boost Advantage detachable magazine kits and was wondering if you had heard of or tried them. Seems right up your alley, all light weight polymer construction, drop in installation, reasonable price point. It wouldn't make sense for a bench rest or competition shooter who's trying to squeeze every ounce of precision out of his rifle, but It looks like a decent option for someone that does the kind of run and gun style shooting you do. I personally have no experience with them at all, just wanted to bring them to your attention.

    Have owned several 700s. Aside from my DIY Timney triggers on the recall models, I have had to deburr and remove finish overspray from the chamber on my tactical models which was causing casing jams and gouges. For $$ vs accuracy, I'm willing to spend the extra time and money on the 700s.. they are nice tack drivers for the price. Last trigger replace' I did, the factory trigger came off in 5 pieces...check your triggers!

    • @astro8772
      @astro8772 10 лет назад

      Gabriel MacDonnell I don't have much in the way of an opinion about them. I've seen the stories and heard some others. I've had strange things happen with other guns, but following the "rules" I had the gun pointing in a safe direction... so little more happened than I got surprised. Similarly, I've got a car in the drive that the ignition may turn off when I hit a bump and the air bag wouldn't deploy....and if it does deploy it may create shrapnel and injure or kill me AND there are millions of these out on the road. I think the CNBC stories were just an opportune stab at guns by idiots.

      he doesn't really hunt anymore. He's said in a lot of vids he'd raher just observe wildlife than kill it at this point. Most of his hunting experience was as a kid with his dad, and he talks about it in his previous Remington 700 video.

    Thanks nutnfancy, I enjoyed this video and the recommended modifications. KRG bolt lift is next on my list for upgrades. I strongly agree with the weak ejector... it works "most of the time" however a more positive and forceful eject would be great. I would like to recommenced a product to you, the tactical operations cheek pad. Not very expensive, light, functional, looks great and helps lift your cheek ever so slightly. Your videos inspire me to shoot, i'll have my SPS out at the range this week!

    Ive never had a problem with ejecting on my remington 700... Its an old BDL model from the 70's. Its in .270 win and never had a problem ejecting those spent cartridges. Its been my dads and now its my hunting rifle. Killed lots of deer and a few elk.

    Speaking of airguns :) you promised a long time ago to do give them some attention. Probably the interest is low but as a Dutchy I'd still like some more attention to the type of rifle I can actually use in my locality being European. Your vision on any gun I value highly, just so hard for me to translate it to products I can actually own...I know, idle hope...thx for all you do nutn.

    I'm fix'n to start on a Steven 200(basic Savage 10 action). I'm planning on putting everything on it. It's going to be heavy, but It's not going to a take a long "battle" gun either. I've got tac carbines for that POU. I want this to be a stationary, reach out and touch someone, don't get close to my house rifle. That, and I just think they look cool.

    Have you looked at the Archangel Stock for the Remington 700 with the built in Bi Pod? You really don't speak much on the Archangel name brand, Did you have a bad experience with them?

    They now have a .308 version. Bought one in Canada and it was 159 canadian price. Have not put it in yet though. Wish I could get the cans up here.

    There is a Sako type extractor that you can get that just beautifully performs. Way more than good enough. Breath on the bolt and it'll kick em out.

    Have a look at a Howa in a B&C stock, great trigger and extractor set up with a hammer forged barrel !

    One mod I did to my 700 is remove the tabs of metal from the rear of the follower to allow my .308 700 to accept 5 rounds over 4. Something I was used to from the M40A3.

    VIDEO IDEA: After accumulating a decent amount of gear, it's become almost a chore to find and organize gear. I would be very interested to hear your thoughts on ways to organize and maintain all kinds of gear. Thanks Nutn.

    My 700P I got new in the box last week had a larger bolt knob on it. Guess they started using different knobs sometime in the last couple years.

    I have the 700aac with the 16.5 barrel. My local Wally World has them for $679. Midway has the Bushnell elite 10 with mil/mil for under $200.

    Hey Nutn, which companies and brands would you recommend for high-dollar custom bolt guns that are no compromise? Accuracy International and Surgeon Rifles?
    Can you review some high dollar customs? The Christensen Arms one was nice, but it's not AI.
    Thanks.

    I currently own my first Remington 700 SPS tactical 20 inch heavy barrel .308 that has the factory Black Mate Finish. I was curious to get your input on what I could use to protect the barrel from rusting since I've only owned in the past all stainless steel guns. I typically lubricate all of my guns with frog lube. Would this be something I can use on the barrel to prevent rust from ever developing ? Will the factory black matte finish hold up well over the years vs standard bluing that some of the older style rifles come with ?

    What would you recommend for long range glass? Can't afford to dish out the money for a Nightforce or similar, but I'm not on a super strict budget.

    I'm curious, when did Remington quality go down hill? Was it right after they were bought by the Freedom group with Marlin, Bushmaster, DPMS Panther and a few others? Or was it going down hill much before that?

      Freedom group is the believed reason.

    I put my Rem 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD on a Choate "Ultimate Sniper" stock and tightened up my shot group immensely. 5 shot group, all 5 rounds touching at 100 yrs, about .6 MOA and only used 12X power on my scope. Sure it weighs a short ton but the rifle is solid on a Harris bi-pod. My next mod is a can, looking at a YHM or Cyclone by AAC. Anyone have experience with either brand? Any recommendations on a real good can? I like the YHM because I can buy a separate QD mount and swap the can between my .308 and my 5.56mm. Then again, I don't know if swapping back and forth is a good thing or not, would hate to throw off my point of impact on the .308 again any comments on the matter are welcome.
