It’s a pity these panel discussions aren’t time and date stamped. Is this 2021?
Just found this watching the YES September 2023 videos just published - so wish we had paid more attention then.
We should pay close attention in late 2023 and onward to Gessen's concern, Putin's inclusion in his 2021 essay of the Baltics ALSO being russia's divine right to rule.
Anyone who thinks this will end peacefully if Putin takes Ukraine is not paying attention.
There are some very smart and distinguished people on that stage, but Timothy Snyder, as always, steals the show with his breathtaking grasp of the situation and his razor-sharp analyses.

Like a film 🎥 from Berlin in 1932... Eastern Europe in 1938...so saddening...and prescient
This was a very important discussion. Some great points were made about how boring Putin's propagandistic view of history is. I couldn't help but to draw parallels with the reactionaries and narrow-minded people here in the US who fervently want to whitewash our history and not teach about (or even talk about) topics such as slavery and institutionalized racism properly.

I just found this and I'm so impressed with how prescient the speakers were. The future of Ukraine will decide a large portion of the new order in Europe and we down play it at our peril.
Ukrainian historians have already written a lot about the fascinating history of Ukraine. They discovered the existence of mighty tribes named Ancient Ukrs dominating the human civilization in the times of Homer. Those Ukrs gave the name Ukraine to the country. They invented wheel, paper, and gun powder!

LIstening to this learned bunch I started to get the impression that they live in some parallel universe and pretending that Ukraine which was quite small in the context of territory prior to the coup in Russia in 1917 and most of the territory now known as Ukraine was given to to it by the father of world terrorism Lenin.
It is very sad that when Ukraine got it’s questionable independence it was easily the most affluent of the former soviet republics, now its a failing state. Ukraines current GDP is around 60% of what it was back in 1991 with torch bearing nazi sympathisers regularly marching on the streets of Kiev, sadly the country is failing.
Interesting also with a comment made by one of the speakers that Ukraine is at war with Russia why is it that Russia is one of Ukraines most important trading partners…just two more points with the recent release of the Pandora papers we discover that Vladimir Zelensky is as corrupt as almost every other leader that Ukraine ever had and of course with the country unfortunately going broke its just a matter of time before it falls apart and return to the borders prior to 1917
