My wife used to oil my deck all the time, but thanks to this video, I can take care of it myself.
😂😂....Good work Adam 👍 Thanks for watching mate 😁🇦🇺
BWAHAHAHAAAAA!
It took me three years to understand that.
Hahahahaaaaa!!! "Now look, I don't know about you, but I love it when your 'deck' starts to look a bit old and weathered!" As he looks down at himself and feels the need to point to the deck. Now that's Denial! LMBO!!! That was my favorite part of the video. Thank you, Shane. I actually loved the weathered look of the deck, but the oil did seem to bring it back to life! LOL
😂....Just had to make things clear Sandi 😂 Yeah the grey looked awesome but like l said it just needed a drink to keep it from deteriorating before its time. Thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺
Just somehow stumbled on this video while researching stuff for an art project. Stayed for the whole thing! Subscribed!
Awesome! Thanks David....hope the Art Project is going OK 👍😁🇦🇺
I bet the wife is happy you gave that deck a good clean... Brilliant results, love from UK
😂😂😂...yep 😂 Glad you liked it mate 👍😁🇦🇺
So glad you pointed out what you were talking about at the beginning! :O
Hahahahahhaha...all sorted mate 😂
Loved it, Uncle Knackers.
You need to publish a book of your favorite Dad Jokes!
Thanks P.T 👍......I reckon l'd sell about 10 copies 😂 Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Wow four years go quickly, I remember you laying it in the first instance. Looks as good as new Shane
Thanks Pete! Yeah time flies mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Looks like some great material to begin with, lovely dark hardwood.
It's called Tonka....l love the stuff 👍
The new look is quite dramatic, well done Knackers.
Cheers Steve! It took a bit of work mate but it paid off l reckon 👍😁🇦🇺
NICE DECK KNACKERS!!! Made me realise I need to oil my deck up too, looking a bit shabby. As always love your Dad Jokes. 🤪
Thanks Mr B! Have a good one mate 👍😁🇦🇺
That's a beautifully built deck, True Craftsmanship.

Great job Uncle Knackers! 💕👏👍 Beautiful deck you got there

Thanks Ralph! Glad l could be of some kind of help. If you like , you can send those photos to my DIY For Knuckleheads Facebook Page 👍
Mate, that came up like a brand new deck. Top Job Knackersa!!!
Cheers Chris! Yeah it came up a treat mate. Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺🍺 P.S. I'll be watching you blokes tonight 👍👍
It is a mistake to sand a deck with fine sandpaper, especially with a power sander. This actually seals the grain of the wood and prevents oil from fully penetrating into the wood. I would us nothing finer than a 100 grit. Many manufactures of deck finishes would say nothing finer than 80 grit.I do agree with using an oil finish, rather than any of the water based products. this is imperative with the harder decking woods such as ipe or mahogany.
Correct , I use 50 grit light pressure and BAMB! DONE and it works well !
I thought of that one too😅
Great tip Knackers!!
I love Shane's videos....... but that phrase makes me cringe every time l hear it!
You see a "knacker" here in Ireland is another name for a scumbag. The lowest of the low. If you want to insult someone you'd call them a knacker.
I've often wondered what Shane means by it? I bet it has a very innocent context and meaning.
.
hope you are not talking about the Spirit one ;)
Thanks Dean 👍👍
Very innocent mate. Over here it's a common Nickname....no one bats an eyelid at it and it's almost a term of endearment 👍👍😁🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Great Job Uncle Knackers as always, the deck looks a million bucks and your video was to the point.
Hope you enjoyed that cuppa 👌
I'm actually having a cuppa as l write this JT 👍😁 Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺

Good to also see people out and bout
Deck clean is also handy for getting rust stains off of paving slabs.
Never knew that mate...thanks for the tip 👍👍
@@diyforknuckleheads Might not work with every brand.
ruclips.net/video/n2_RrLTGeBY/видео.html
Bartender's Friend works even better 🙌
Great stuff, probably wouldn't sand to such a high grit, 80-120 so the oil actually "penetrates into the deck" 😌
Also, if you didn't clean all the grey out and just clear coated.. with a penetrative oil like the cutek, the grey is meant to return!
I liked the Deck Clean product too. Worked well on a 10 year weathered merbau privacy screen at my brother's I re-oiled for him. Look's a million bucks... but then I always do tend to overcharge... 🤣
Hahahahahaha......yeah l saw you had a video on it 👍 Great minds think alike mate👍 Thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺
That's funny when after the intro every time he says "deck" I hear something else :)
Heck. Me too.
😂😂.....mind games mate 😂
Reminds me of the "Blue Collar Comedy" sketch about the size of your deck.
@@GergC0521 😂
Yes...but he talks only about his "deck"
The deck came up amazing. Nice job knackers! 👍😎🇦🇺
Thanks John! Appreciate the comment mate 👍😁🇦🇺

I remember the video of this deck being built years ago, what a massive difference the oil makes, looks completely like a new deck. I must say knackers, ya decks looking pretty good for it age n i’m sure the mrs agrees. lolo have a good one mate.

Great video! Wow, that is beautiful now, the colour, lustre, sheen, very sharp looking, it totally revitalises the whole appearance. We are seeking to re-oil our deck this year as well. Have a great day!
Thanks Matthias! Glad you liked it and good luck with the deck 👍😁🇦🇺

Wow! Amazing transformation. Great job 👏
Thanks John.....yeah it's beautiful timber mate 👍😁🇦🇺
God bless and be safe
Cheers Charles and same to you mate 👍😁🇦🇺
You said you like that weathered gray look on your deck? Well my neglected old deck had turned black until I took the pressure washer to it. Now I’m back to that natural big brown deck that I know and love so well. Putting oil on my deck might make it too slippery so I’m thinking of using something else. Great tips though. ❤️💪😎👍❤️
👍😁....Thanks Randy and good luck with yours 👍😁🇦🇺
Just wow. I can hardly believe those results. Im about to use Australian Timber Oil by Cabot on an outdoor sectional I built. Thanks for the video!
Cheers mate! Yeah the result was awesome 👍 Good luck with yours 👍😁🇦🇺
Looked AWSOME
Thanks Michael 👍👍
You're a funny one 😆 The result is lovely but I really liked the colour of your pre-oiled- deck- it had oodles of character xox
Thanks Hannah....yeah l loved the look of the grey deck as well but unfortunately it cops a lot of sun and if you don't keep it oiled it will start to dry out and crack. Thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺
I am so glad I found your videos. From Davenport Iowa usa
Thanks Charles! Great to have you on board mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Extremely informative and hilarious!! LOL. Thank you...🤣🤣❤
👍😁...Thanks Melissa! Glad you found the video useful 👍😁🇦🇺
Love that Cutek oil.
I'm right in the middle of redecking the back deck and recycling some of the boards onto a new 'retreat' area. Gunna flip the old decking boards and hit 'em with the sander before laying them and oiling.
We clad part of the front and back of the house with horizontal bamboo, 135mm deck boards, 20mm spacing, in front of black painted cement sheet (with a 3mm spacer running vertical on every stud). The east side gets washed and re-oiled every 12 months. The west side, every six (we're about 500 metres from Westernport Bay, looking towards the Mornington Peninsula so that side cops all the weather). The back takes about an hour to do and twice that when I wash it (once a year). The east side, front, takes twice that long and gets washed every couple of years (when the spider population gets outa control 🤣🤣). The deck is a two day affair if the weather is OK and the dog isnt digging holes and deciding to show us his treasures 🤣🤣
I just enjoy looking at how the oil makes everything pop.
Great job Shane. I know your pain re. 'tennis elbow' except mine is 'softball shoulder' 🤣🤣😷. Sit back, enjoy a 🍺 and admire your handy work 👍
Cheers Shane👍👍 Mate, sounds like a bit of work but ya gotta do it. You cop a fair bit of weather around your part of Vic so the maintenance does pay off👍👍. Great part of the world though l have to say 👍 Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺

Nice work, love cutek even here in Canada 🇨🇦 in our harsh winters. Do you remember what colour tone you added to the oil? Or was it just clear coat? Oiling my deck this week again. Second time using cutek, first time was clear with rustic gold added.
Thanks mate.....I didn't add any colour tone....just clear. The only issue with clear is that you need to oil it more often if you want to retain the vibrant colour 👍
need Uncle Knacker pro tip of getting his family back into the house after putting the decking oil.. did he toss em like footy thru the window?
Hahahahahahaha....had em' in a tent for a couple of days 😂
Beautiful
Thanks Pete 👍👍
Lovely result! Well worth the effort!
Thank you! Cheers mate! 👍😁
what is the wood? Its beautiful.
I've got the CD50 extreme oil and bought a cedartone colourtone to add to it. Unsure now if I should add that or just keep it clear!
Mate...the CD 50 will fade pretty quickly and you will need to reapply apply it more often if you want to keep that vibrant colour. Adding a colourtone keeps its colour longer. Good luck 👍
@@diyforknuckleheads cheers mate. I'll give it a go.
how does it look 3 years after? How often do you need to apply this oil? I want something very long lasting
Brilliant video! I was watching to see you applied it. Typical decking in the uk isn’t flat though, it has ridges so i don’t know if the lambs wool would work. Also, sorry to say you remind me of Rolf Harris 😂 so either change it up or go full Rolf 😂😂😂. Or neither as you are very entertaining. Thanks again
Cheers Martin 😁 Think I'll take a pass on the Rolf reference 😬
Did that deck oil have any color built into it?
No it was a clear finish
@@diyforknuckleheads darn. I think mine has color in it. Thnx

Cutek Extreme CD50 is an amazing product!!
Yeah l love the stuff 👍👍
Greeat job!!!!
Thanks Mark👍👍
Beautiful! What color is this?
👍😁....Thanks Lashun, glad you liked it. The colour was actually clear.....no tint was added whatsoever.
Hi Shane. I'm trying to figure out why the oil based needs to be redone more often than the water based...I thought it would be the reverse. Have you had to re-apply the oil since?
Hi Juliet....correct, water based does last longer on the surface as far as far as looks goes. Oil in my opinion does soak in better than a water based product. If you add a tint to your oil based product the look will last last longer than if just added a clear oil....if you know what l mean 🤔 I used to oil mine every two years but have recently let it go as l like the look of the greyed out beachy finish.
Great job, looks great!
Thanks Jeff 👍😁🇦🇺
Haha mate you're a legend! I just found your channel :D I started my channel only a few months ago and have a video about how to get decking oil and all that Cabot's cleaner for free if you're interested. If I wanted the same finish and color as your deck, what product do I need to buy? I see Cutek has colortone additives and I can’t find a can that says “architectural finish” like yours does. Any help is much appreciated!
Mitch...l use Cutek CD50 without adding any colour additive. Just be aware that if you don't add any colour additive the finish will "Grey Off" over the next 12 months which mine does. If you don't like the greying off look you just need to apply another coat. Hope that helps 👍
Awesome thanks!
No worries at all Dustin! Thanks for taking the time to watch 👍😁🇦🇺

DIYForKnuckleheads What can be done to stop the Oil clogging up the Philips head slots of the screws please.
The oil doesn't clog the screw heads mate 👍👍
@@diyforknuckleheads Thanks' Knackers for answering my somewhat dumb question. I've screwed a lot of plywood to the top of the joists in the roof space and I would like to seal it, but I may need to unscrew sheets of ply in the future.

How was the smell/off gassing of product you used?
Not an issue at all 👍
What color did you use I seen architectural finish but I don't know what color that would be is there a tint to that
Hi Adonis....there was no colour added...it was a clear finish 👍👍
