Great stuff, probably wouldn't sand to such a high grit, 80-120 so the oil actually "penetrates into the deck" 😌 Also, if you didn't clean all the grey out and just clear coated.. with a penetrative oil like the cutek, the grey is meant to return!
Hahahahaaaaa!!! "Now look, I don't know about you, but I love it when your 'deck' starts to look a bit old and weathered!" As he looks down at himself and feels the need to point to the deck. Now that's Denial! LMBO!!! That was my favorite part of the video. Thank you, Shane. I actually loved the weathered look of the deck, but the oil did seem to bring it back to life! LOL
😂....Just had to make things clear Sandi 😂 Yeah the grey looked awesome but like l said it just needed a drink to keep it from deteriorating before its time. Thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺
It took me 1 year before I had the trellis made. I Used Grapa wood w / a clear stain. Thx u for all your guidance/photos and encouragement as seen on your vid. I wish I could send u photos. u r the best. kutncure, Tacoma,WA
It is a mistake to sand a deck with fine sandpaper, especially with a power sander. This actually seals the grain of the wood and prevents oil from fully penetrating into the wood. I would us nothing finer than a 100 grit. Many manufactures of deck finishes would say nothing finer than 80 grit.I do agree with using an oil finish, rather than any of the water based products. this is imperative with the harder decking woods such as ipe or mahogany.
I remember the video of this deck being built years ago, what a massive difference the oil makes, looks completely like a new deck. I must say knackers, ya decks looking pretty good for it age n i’m sure the mrs agrees. lolo have a good one mate.
I liked the Deck Clean product too. Worked well on a 10 year weathered merbau privacy screen at my brother's I re-oiled for him. Look's a million bucks... but then I always do tend to overcharge... 🤣
Great video! Wow, that is beautiful now, the colour, lustre, sheen, very sharp looking, it totally revitalises the whole appearance. We are seeking to re-oil our deck this year as well. Have a great day!
You said you like that weathered gray look on your deck? Well my neglected old deck had turned black until I took the pressure washer to it. Now I’m back to that natural big brown deck that I know and love so well. Putting oil on my deck might make it too slippery so I’m thinking of using something else. Great tips though. ❤️💪😎👍❤️
Love that Cutek oil. I'm right in the middle of redecking the back deck and recycling some of the boards onto a new 'retreat' area. Gunna flip the old decking boards and hit 'em with the sander before laying them and oiling. We clad part of the front and back of the house with horizontal bamboo, 135mm deck boards, 20mm spacing, in front of black painted cement sheet (with a 3mm spacer running vertical on every stud). The east side gets washed and re-oiled every 12 months. The west side, every six (we're about 500 metres from Westernport Bay, looking towards the Mornington Peninsula so that side cops all the weather). The back takes about an hour to do and twice that when I wash it (once a year). The east side, front, takes twice that long and gets washed every couple of years (when the spider population gets outa control 🤣🤣). The deck is a two day affair if the weather is OK and the dog isnt digging holes and deciding to show us his treasures 🤣🤣 I just enjoy looking at how the oil makes everything pop. Great job Shane. I know your pain re. 'tennis elbow' except mine is 'softball shoulder' 🤣🤣😷. Sit back, enjoy a 🍺 and admire your handy work 👍

Knackers when you first oiled it did you do the underside also? I oiled one of my decks (top only) and the boards cupped (130mm spotted gum), then on another deck with same timber I didn’t oil it at all and didn’t get any cupping. Wondering if I oiled both now would I get the same colour and would it encourage any cupping. Both of mine are unroofed unlike yours.
