- Canada’s major league baseball experience is changing.
The Toronto Blue Jays are looking to hit a home run with fans with a completely reimagined lower level at the Rogers Centre. This is the final phase in a multi-year project.
The 100-level lower bowl at Rogers Centre went through some major changes in less than a year.
“Foul pole to foul pole on the in-field, we demolished the entire bowl, and re-built a seating bowl that feels more like a ballpark,” said Marnie Starkman the Executive Vice President of Business Operations of the Toronto Blue Jays.
The $300 million project saw around 350 workers tearing up the entire lower bowl.
The lower bowl features new wider seats with cup holders and additional legroom plus re-angled seats to ensure the best view for spectators.
“I think that’s one thing that fans probably didn’t really realize, was the bowl was so symmetrical and built for multi-purpose, that a lot of fans looked out into the outfield or out to centre field,” said Starkman.
However, the seats are not the only thing getting changed, the diamond itself and the dugout also got a facelift.
Both dugouts were completely re-designed during the renovation. The field’s turf was completely replaced. Since the Toronto Argonauts no longer play at Rogers Centre, it can be a permanent baseball stadium.
“Previously when the Argos were playing here we had to have a convertible system, so our turf was literally rolled up and removed from the field,” said Tom Farrell, Director of Field Operations of the Toronto Blue Jays. Now because the field is permanent Farrell says they can do different things.
“We have three main priorities, player safety being number one, playability being number two, and number three aesthetics, and we’ve been happy with all three of those components,” said Farrell.
The first stage of the renovation was completed in April of last year, it saw all 500 level seats in the stadium replaced and room was made for five pen social spaces.
The Blue Jays also introduced some new food items on the menu for this season, including crush floats, maple bacon hot dogs, cannolis, Jamaican patties and more.
Along with the brand new level-100 seats a new social space called “The Catch”, near right field was also built. A social space where fans can enjoy and see a home run.
Fans will be able to enjoy the updated stadium at the Blue Jays home opener on Monday, Apr. 8 against the Seattle Mariners.
Good on ya Mate!
How much more is it going to cost to see a game and eat /drink?
Now the fans will have the best view of their last-place team.
better than the Leafs
Lol they keep playing the way they are those new seats will be empty cob webs 😭
Now they need to get a team.
a lot of negativity in this comment section. I think the new lower bowl looks more up-to-date and allows for better views for fans. Go Jays GO
If you (or your company) can afford it
I wanna go see a game
then go.
How will a fan be able to catch a home run when we score 0 runs on the home opener?
best new ball park of 2024. refurbished.
Everything about Toronto blows the big one !
Jays could have put their money into building a contender, instead they built a playground for the pretenders
no one will enjoy it if the team sucks the bowl will be empty.
For the rest of my living days I’ll will never ever afford to go into this building…Stadium for the rich and privileged…
dude it's the Blue Jays not the Maple Leafs.
@@pacman3556 can’t afford either teams now. Still have my Maple Leaf Gardens ticket stubs. Sitting in the Greys for $4.00 was a deal!
@@andygrenn680 yeah I remember those days. I had tickets to general admission Blue Jays games in the grand stands CNE for around $3 or $4.
@@pacman3556going to a Jays or Leafs game out of reach for average joe, unless some guy with corporate seats gives them cuz he can't make it
@billboggs Jays are not as expensive as the Leafs. But they are getting more expensive. I remember the days when you could get general admission tickets to the old Ex Stadium for around $3.
Too bad the team is so boring and sucks, not worth it
Leafs pfp…. Ur the one to talk
irony-- someone with a Toronto Maple Leafs symbol saying other teams suck and not worth watching.
At least they’re not the Oakland Athletics
Also its to bad your maple leafs suck ickd and will nv ever win a stanley cup again mrk my wrds
And why do canidens do it doggy style???
So they both can watch the hockey gm lmfa
It's funny they only removated the 100 level seats and as per usual did nothing to the 500 level. Way to keep the rich and poor continuously seperated. It's also quite interesting that 500 level seats were not changed yet they're more expensive this year. So tired of this nonsense.
Too bad the team is going nowhere.
