WOW, I have 18i20 2cnd generation, but a friend wants to sell liquid 56 cause I needed more inputs, should I buy? Will the adat work with it?Please an answer will help me
i use the saffire pro 40 on a macbook pro 2014 catalina, with apple firewire to thunderbolt adapter, and its a pretty good interface, i didn´t have issues at all. focusrite has a version of the saffire mix control app that works with mojave and catalina. Nice video.
Mine was working but I relocated my studio recently and today tried it but no sound it locked everything looked fine but no sound also no signal on DAw when it's connected
I bought Pro40 in 2013 and was using that up to the last year. I upgraded my PC and unfortunately I couldn't find a good and reliable FireWire PCI card. I couldn't use the same PCI card as in previous PC as the new main board didn't have the same slot. What I did? I bought Scarlett 18i20 and hooked the PRO 40 as ADAT input. Now I have 16 inputs and I am very happy with that.
Yes - I have mine hooked up to windows 11. I wanted to interface with my Korg digital mixer. £60 on ebay. Bit tricky to get working, but really pleased.
Been using mine for about 4 years and still works great. I had installed a firewire port into my windows PC to operate it but now I need 24 plus tracks. I had purchased an additional Pro 40 to connect them together but it was a headache trying to do this. With that being said I am purchasing a new interface which gives me unlimited tracks on my Reaper DAW.
Older Macs can use Opencore Legacy Patcher to get to the newer OSes from Big Sur onward. I have a video with a Saffire Pro 14 and 2012 MBP i5 running Sonoma and capturing/playing back audio. And Standalone mode is indeed the ticket if it's only going to be a second unit on ADAT. You need to make the decision of what hardware inputs will be routed to what ADAT output channels. Then save to hardware.
Bought one for 50 bucks, works perfectly. I use it as backup system for my Liquid Saffire, I have 26 i/o for dirt cheap. The Pro40's are used for 16 track 'on the road' recording, one running Firewire to my Mac, the other one in standalone mode connected with adat. All runs fine on Catalina 🎵🎶
Mine is being running fine but recently I had to move my studio and today trying it everything shows up fine except that it's not playing out sound or showing output signals dunno what's wrong again
Loving the Channel, I really enjoyed the video going through that old Yamaha board. Never really considered a much older mixing board. It's kind of inspired me a little. So busy on the latest Mic Pre's and Compressors. Why not dive into an old board or console, at the very least it would be cool for analog summing.
@@fcukingalien That totally depends on the PCI card you have. If it's something like an RME HDSP9652 w/ multiple ADAT I/O then yes. You would need a system with a Firewire 400 port in order to configure the Pro 40 units as stand alone but then you would be good.
I had one for a very long time and it ran great. I’m horrible with maintenance and used to leave this thing on for days sometimes weeks at a time and it still ran like a champ. I actually got my first label placements with this and mixed a handful of Latin billboard tracks on this thing 😂😂 It finally died on me and I upgraded to a Lynx Aurora N
I have mines running on my MP 5,1 Monterey OS. Using it with the Behringer UMC 1820 w/ ada8200. I have it all aggregated with the UMC as the main output while the Pro 40 is being used for the extra 8 analog inputs for a total of 24 inputs!!! The system runs fine. I am just getting used to the Pro 40 and its Mix Control s/w. i just wish that the Mix Control ui could be expandable with its view, it's very tiny. But other than that, I love having this Pro 40 that is in absolutely mint condition. It was given to me by my cousin abt a week ago, who never really used it bc he has the newer Focusrite. I got it for free. So now, I'm going to keep my MP 5,1 bc it is totally maxed out and doesn't seem to be giving me any issues. Considering how old my MP is, this system is performing quite great in 2024. Thinking about buying a new cmptr, but at the moment it is not a priority as long as I am able to record a band without hiccups.., I'm good 👍🏾
I have a studio based on a Saffire Pro 26 with Behringer ADA8200, still working like a charm in 2024, win 7. A ton of plugins installed in Cubase 10. Not moving from here untill a total upgrade, one day...
oh, well as soon as you said ADAT, then yes, absolutely :P Or it should. I was thinking this was like when I hooked up my old AF MOTU 2496 mkIII that uses PCI or PCI-X (old Mac card bus). The answer, shockingly, was yes. MOTU still has modern Windows drivers for it. The only issue I had was at times it got out of sync if I used Sleep, I'd wake the computer up and it would be sped up or slowed down.
There is a combination of two adapters at around 150 usd with which you can connect it to thunderbold / USB 4. I aquired one and took a different root. It is easy to get a firewire card for PCI and PCIe, and while Apple is a bit behind with a Mac Pro there is something called Hackintosh. A good compatible and mostly modern PC from the pre owned market did cost me less that the adapters.
Thanks for this, I have 18i20 2cnd generation, but a friend wants to sell liquid 56 cause I needed more inputs, should I buy? Will the adat work with it?Please an answer will help me
As long as you can get it to connect to a version of Mix Control that works with your computer and that sees the liquid 56 you should be able to get it to work. May take some trial and error though
I just bought a 2nd, been using the old one about 8-9 years. I love it. Also having no issues on the newer computer with mix control myself.
What newer computers? Do you use windows or Mac?
Any issues w Mac OS 13 or higher?
"Store to hardware", how could I not think of this myself! Lifesaver!!!!! Thanks so much!!
Ive been using sapphire pro 40 adat into my 18i20 for a while now.. works great.. 16 inputs

definitly usable... I'm still using the same exact unit running it through a 2012 macmini... works like charm on drum tracking

Thank you! I almost bought this before really checking what I would need
Me too! dodged a bullet
Finally got mine up and running.
Love this thing.
Thank you for this video, helped a lot.
No chance on my M4. You saved me time with this video. Thanks

Awesome video my man. Was looking to update my old pro40, but its good to know its still has some life!

Thank you for posting this video. I have toying with the idea of buying one of these used. Really appreciate the effort.

I have and currently use two of them slaved together. These things are great.
(noob question)
Can I use 2 pro 40 togethet as a 2x8channel AD/DA with a PCI card?

Thanks for this video, i was looking at one for the same use case.

I use mine since 2007 with a Behringer ADA8000 on my PC. 16 channels, 64 samples of latency max.
Does it stays out of standalone mode even after power cycle?
Have one of those laying around for years and had no idea about this
Buddy of mine is getting rid of one. I have a m2 MacBook but I’m afraid it won’t work. What would I have to do?
I have an IMac with m1 chip. What interface is compatible and has plenty of IO? Please help I'm new to home recording. Any feed back is welcome.
Hey ladies, i'm using a Saffire in Windows 10 with a Ryzen 9... Whats wrong with Firewire???

Does the Optical In and Out show lights when in operation coz mine is working but no sound and I was thinking if that was what was wrong
Yes if you lift back the adat lid with it on should be a red light in there, could be an issue with the software and hardware not talking though.
Great review. Can use USB3?
No, only firewire and thunderbolt.
which is the answer for win11 users?
My liquid 56 just died. No power....
Can saffire pro 40 work on big sur
I did a quick test using my MB Pro (2015)...hooked up via TB to FW800, Did the test wirh a Pro 14..worked fine...no reason a Pro 40 wouldn't work.
