altar7 Hello Altar7, It is very easy to wipe the black away with a fiber class brush or with a polisher on your flex shaft. The nice thing about this technology is that after you buff and polish you are done. No acid bath or pickling. Let us know if you have any other questions, email sales@SunstoneEngineering.com or call +1-801-658-0015 between 9am - 5pm MST.

The first questions would be what Karat Weight is the gold. The lower karats become harder to weld, the metals that they use other than gold cause problems with welding. Zinc specifically causes problems because of a low melting temp, and low boiling point. Zinc begins to boils off before the gold even melts. The solution to help this is to keep welding the same spot over and over, removing as much of the other problem metals. This will blow all the zinc out, and allow for just gold to make a good weld joint.
The other thing to consider is the power settings, argon settings, and joint preparations. You have to ensure that the power settings are high enough to get adequate melt of the metal. The argon gas pressure should be between 8-10 Psi on the machine, this will ensure no oxidation to occur in the welding site. and Lastly, the joint should be as tight and smooth as possible.
