  • Guitar Tone Tuesday: Ep: 23 - Digging into New Orleans funk (the style of Leo Nocentelli)
Lucas Haneman of the LH Express gives you experienced tips and tricks, as well as showcasing lesser known gear in this series.
Lucas uses his ears and hands to guide him when choosing gear, writing songs and recording parts. Will you agree with his assessment? Subscribe and follow to let your voice be heard!
On this week's episode Lucas shows you how to play a New Orleans 2nd Line rhythm on your guitar, and pays respect to the wonderful Leo Nocentelli (one of the founding members of "The Meters"). Lucas has been inspired lately by the Meters 1974 “Rejuvenation” album, and this short rhythmic exercise is taken from the song "Hey Pocky A-Way".
Leo Nocentelli was born on June 15, 1946, and in Lucas's opinion to this day is one of the most important players when it comes to solid and consistent funk guitar with strong right/left hand coordination.
    Here's a link to ""Hey Pocky A-Way":

Nice lesson, are you a relative of Stobe the Hobo? You straight up sound and look like him.

Thanks for the lesson! I've been playing a long with this but couldn't quite get that groove because of all the other instruments blending so tightly with the guitar. If I'm not mistaken you can also call it a 3-2 bossa nova clave (with a 2-feel).

That would be absolutely correct! Glad you’ve been having fun playing around with this.

Arthur, thank you so much for your comment. Yeah it’s the kind of music that gets into your bones! I know I can’t stop drumming on any and everything around me when I am listening to it. Enjoy the exercise and enjoy listening to the band!
