Max Baillie plays virtuosic Jungle Book Variations for solo viola

Variations on the theme 'My Own Home' from the end of the Jungle Book. It's a piece inspired by Paganini, Ysaye, Bach, and Scottish folk music (my heritage on my dad's side is Scots). Bit of a beast to play, cool for a solo recital. Get in touch if you want the sheet music!

I've always adored the deeper timbre of the viola. Nuance, rubato, volume rising and falling away like an ocean's tide, purposefully wide vibrato. The Japanese painting behind you is a metaphor for the time and devotion it takes to hone one's craft. Your interpretation of this piece is both soulful and stunning.
