Good afternoon Lauren! I just to say thank you very much for this tutorial. When I first started playing the guitar, I was like a snail, but, after doing this exercise for two months, I play smoother and faster now.
Such a great exercise! I'm on day 10 of playing and just finished Lauren's 14-day freebie course. I enjoyed it SO much that I will be enrolling in the full program. I'm also a distance runner and have actually worked on independent toe articulation in the past, so I know that exercises like this WORK! So here I am - physically holding two fingers down in an effort to get that ring finger to move. I absolutely remember doing this with my toes too! The digits do eventually come around. Another great video, Lauren! Thank you!

I'm another older beginner, 67, started at Christmas (Guitar, an SX Strat, was a Christmas gift) I now have 2 guitars (an Epiphone Les Paul Studio as well). I dip in and out of your videos, which are always very useful, as well as others. I did this exercise every day for a few months, and whilst you don't notice much difference day to day, over the 2 months though the dexterity improved a lot. My index finger has been broken so only gets used for a couple of chords so the middle 2 and the pinky do most of the work. 7 months in and I think I'm maybe ahead of where I thought I might be at this stage. This exercise definitely helped. Recently learned the riff from La Bamba and can really knock that out now which needs a bit of finger speed. Keep up the great work Lauren.👍

I tried the exercise today for the first time and after I was done I tried the chord C and G minor that you mentioned! I‘m still blown away how much more quicker I was on G-Minor… great exercise! Will use it again!
Oh my goodness, my third finger has a mind of its own 😂, or no mind at all. Not sure which yet. Man I love your videos! Thank you for encouraging us to be patient with ourselves!
As an older learner, the warning (about not practicing this exercise too long) is every bit as helpful as the actual exercise. Quality teaching; thanks, Lauren!!
Hi Lauren, I am 66, from India. Your teaching system is awesome, particularly the fingers excercise. I am retired, and an ameture singer. Just learing guiter playing so that I can play while I sing.
Hey Lauren, I have been doing this exercise you suggested for 10 days now, and what a massive improvement it has made in my chord changes and accuracy. Thank you so much for the timely tip. Keep up the great work.
Wow. I really can't move my ring finger up and down. It's really really hard omg. Thank you for showing these exercises. I started playing guitar last week, and I'm learning by myself and this has really helped. Thank you
I also studied alone ... a long time ago. There was no internet yet, which made it much harder. But you have to keep practicing. The nice thing is: you actually have a success every day - a little more every day - hold on! You will have a lot of fun with this hobby.
My stuff's in storage currently, and for a few years now, after caring for my mother until her passing, but I'll have it back soon - I hope. I tried this on a broad ruler and, despite the many years since I played, and a hand that the surgeon who put it back together 35 years ago (motorcycle crash) described as 85% functional in terms of mechanical movement, I can still do this - including the tricky third finger. Never really goes away once learned, it would seem. Quite pleased.
Thank you Lauren I'll do this in the next five minutes I've only been to classes for three months C and d are hard but I can't quit It's hard I'm 62 but I'll keep trying Thank you time to do up downs
Learning as an older absolute beginner since end december 22. It took me about a month to teach my ring finger to be able to move by itself. Don't feel discouraged if it takes a while. It is one of the best mobility excercises for beginners. Still far from being perfect it already is a game changer for my fretting hand mobility . Thank you Lauren!
Thank you for this amazing video!! I was an amazing guitar player 20 years ago, it's been a long and sometimes frustrating journey trying to reteach myself this skill, but I'm determined! Your videos are my favorite, this exercise has already been so helpful. The C to G transition gets me everytime!! I do feel a lot of pain in my left wrist and some tension in my shoulder when I do this. I have been watching videos about proper hand positioning which is obviously the problem. I have to yet to find my solution. Thanks Lauren for your wonderful instruction!
Lauren… you mentioned in another video about lowering the action. Just got my Martin D15 back and after $150.00 and lowering the action by a luthier….holy cow, what a difference. Your 60 yr. Old student must’ve also been shocked at the adjustment you recommended. Thank you, that was great advice.
now this is really fantastic. nobody on earth has ever put a video that important on youtube. This is my problem too and i will do these exercises. thank you Lauren..
This was great! I immediately noticed the difference. It's actually most difficult for me to use my pinky finger .It kind gets stuck in place. Do you have any suggestions for this?
The weird thing is that I'm self-taught and the pinky is my problem finger not the third one, I think it's because I'm not used to involving it into any chords it's just hanging there most the time
I hold the neck the way I play piano with a relaxed hand posture. Very sound advice, the more relaxed your wrist the better your techique, why make playing more difficult than it is.
Hello Lauren, 62year old Jimi Hendrix fan ,always wanted to play guitar 🎸 but never mentally in the right place, have 2 sons who play really good, I was at a meeting today where we were ask to visualise stuff, so now I am on a new journey and learning the guitar profiently with your help ,no pressure 😂😊
Thanks for this set of wonderful tips. I am doing these exercises each day. One question do you have any thoughts about thumb movement/stability/positioning during chord changes? I am trying keep my thumb under control but it difficult.
Depends on the chord honestly. I wrap it over the top something to mute strings and sometimes it's on the back of the guitar. Particularly for barre chords and power chords.

Best tip yet!! Two thumbs up 👍👍🤗
Dawn thank you so much!

So happy to help 😊
I have been playing guitar for about 5 years and have never saw this type of exercise. I was really surprised how hard this actually is. Thanks so much for the tip!!
You can do it!
Oh wow, I'm learning so much from you in such a short time. This is awesome. I have progressed so much in just 2 weeks. And it all becomes logical / common sense over time. Thank you so much.
Dirk, so happy to help!
Been doing this since past 1 month. And it really helps a lot to increase the speed of the fingers. I came back just to share my results.
Thank you so much dear for sharing this exercise 😊💕
Thank you for coming back and sharing your results!
I am new to guitar(2 weeks) and I will try and update time to time, thanks for the tutorial
You got this!!
Amen... Amen... Amen...
She said “don’t forget to breathe”
At that moment I realized I was holding my breath 😅😂
Ha ha ha. Isn't that funny? Happened all the time in lessons. I would ask students, are you breathing?
Wow ok...I'm gonna have to do this definitely daily...this was way harder than I expected. No wonder I have such a hard time doing chords and switching them. Thank you for this exercise!
You got this!
yet another brilliant one - this is so 'real' - more helpful than you can imagine. A great teacher.
You got it!
I live in a small town where there are no guitar lessons so I've been watching these videos and they have been super helpful!!!! Thank uuuu
Glad to hear it!
Mam...I too have the same problem n I started learning Guitar few days back...I hope that this will help me fixing my problem..✌🏽🙏🏽👍🏽
I hope so too!
I really like your teaching Style and this is the first exercise I feel like I can actually do. It would be really cool to do an actual lesson with you I think. Thank you
Glad to help Eric ☺️
been working on this a lot can't relax though, can't even get my as perpendicular as yours, hurts to try. I can feel it up to my biceps. Seeing improvement though. Thanks
I tried the exercise today for the first time and after I was done I tried the chord C and G minor that you mentioned! I‘m still blown away how much more quicker I was on G-Minor… great exercise! Will use it again!
That's awesome!!!!
Oh my goodness, my third finger has a mind of its own 😂, or no mind at all. Not sure which yet. Man I love your videos! Thank you for encouraging us to be patient with ourselves!
Mike, happy to help. 😊
Great exercise. YOU ARE ALWAYS ON TOP. I am 79 and still following you. The fun is the chalenge.
Awesome!
As an older learner, the warning (about not practicing this exercise too long) is every bit as helpful as the actual exercise. Quality teaching; thanks, Lauren!!
Aww, thank you.
Hey Lauren I'm going this exercise all day by day. So... I'll kept watching ND hearing these tips about Guitar lolll
Thanks!
Great advice, I'm so glad I've found your chanell! Thank you!
You are so welcome! Welcome to the channel!
Love your short and very informative videos.
Thanks Rajat!!!!
I huge doubts about this exercise but doing it 10 minutes straight and jumping to switching chords and strumming, I was impressed. Good stuff.
Glad it was helpful!! Thank you for watching!
Hi Lauren, I am 66, from India. Your teaching system is awesome, particularly the fingers excercise. I am retired, and an ameture singer. Just learing guiter playing so that I can play while I sing.
Rock on!
Hey Lauren, I have been doing this exercise you suggested for 10 days now, and what a massive improvement it has made in my chord changes and accuracy. Thank you so much for the timely tip. Keep up the great work.
That's amazing! Glad it helped. It's definitely been a game changer for a lot of my students over the years
Wow. I really can't move my ring finger up and down. It's really really hard omg. Thank you for showing these exercises. I started playing guitar last week, and I'm learning by myself and this has really helped. Thank you
Great job! That makes me so happy that my lessons helped you.
I also studied alone ... a long time ago. There was no internet yet, which made it much harder. But you have to keep practicing. The nice thing is: you actually have a success every day - a little more every day - hold on! You will have a lot of fun with this hobby.
@@Paul_9.53 thank you. I'll continue practicing, although my left hand is half paralyzed
@@Jay-hb6dl I'm sorry. But maybe playing the guitar will help you feel better again.
I wish it to you
@@Paul_9.53 yes, I'm sure it will. Thank you
I really appreciate this exercise of fingers 😍😍🥰🥰🥰I want to learn more thank you so much💕😘😘😘😘
More to come!
Thanks madam for teaching these exercises! Very helpful!!!🙏🙏🙏
You got it
My stuff's in storage currently, and for a few years now, after caring for my mother until her passing, but I'll have it back soon - I hope.
You got this!
I will give a try tomorrow for sure as I am really struggling to move my fingers from one fret to another!! Thanks 🙏
Best of luck!
Thank you Lauren I'll do this in the next five minutes
I've only been to classes for three months
C and d are hard but I can't quit
It's hard I'm 62 but I'll keep trying
Thank you time to do up downs
Yes, don't give up. It takes time. It is a process. Have fun with what you can do. This exercise does help a lot.
Great lesson Lauren. I look for any exercises that help my arthritis. This is a great one.
Glad it was helpful!
Great...!
You're my angel best teacher ever love you Lauren
That makes me very happy 😃
Learning as an older absolute beginner since end december 22. It took me about a month to teach my ring finger to be able to move by itself. Don't feel discouraged if it takes a while. It is one of the best mobility excercises for beginners. Still far from being perfect it already is a game changer for my fretting hand mobility . Thank you Lauren!
Thank you for your comment. 😊
Thanks Lauren!! I need these basics, or I'll never learn to play song that actually sounds like a song!!
It's all about the basics. When you learn a song it's just putting a bunch of those basics together like a puzzle piece
Are you using a guitar strap and pointing your guitar neck upwards? That can help with proper wrist ergonomics.
Yes! Amazing right?
now this is really fantastic. nobody on earth has ever put a video that important on youtube. This is my problem too and i will do these exercises. thank you Lauren..
You can do it!
This was great! I immediately noticed the difference. It's actually most difficult for me to use my pinky finger .It kind gets stuck in place. Do you have any suggestions for this?
It's the tendons and how they work. It will get better over time.
My pinky is the most difficult too! Thought I was the only one.
The weird thing is that I'm self-taught and the pinky is my problem finger not the third one, I think it's because I'm not used to involving it into any chords it's just hanging there most the time
Yeah the pink isn't easy by any means.
Thanks Laura that’s a handy little tip pardon the pun I can’t wait to give it a go👍
Haha funny. Give this a try and I bet by next week you'll have faster fingers
I hold the neck the way I play piano with a relaxed hand posture. Very sound advice, the more relaxed your wrist the better your techique, why make playing more difficult than it is.
Great tip!
I'm so happy you are on this journey. You got this. Enjoy it!
I am not able to do the first exercise because my fingers are short in length
No matter how hard I try ....what should I do now?
maybe try ukulele? it's shorter and narrower than guitar, but it's still musical instrument (if it's not principal for you ofc)
3/4 size guitar could help
