Syd Barret was a musical genius,no doubt..I am glad you finally got to him... After all he founded Pink Floyd. Your reactions are the best;!!😂 Keep it going girl!❤️ See Emily Play next!
Syd was the man. No Floyd without him. Tragic figure and in a better place now. The muse of all Floyd's best work that came after him. RIP Syd.
Sydney was great...but Pink Floyd became giants in music with masterpiece after masterpiece throughout their career. One of the greatest bands ever
I'm been on a Syd Barrett era Floyd and beyond kick that won't quit. The best.
@@reality1958 they did. It’s a shame we didn’t witness what would’ve become. He was way ahead of waters and gilmour, they had to pull it out the bag when Sid left. Which they did, but it wasn’t easy, umma gumma and atom heart mother are testament to that struggle, dsotm was like stratospheric, they didn’t even realise how big it was gonna be, so yes they definitely found their calling
@@bumpyjason its a testament to how creative they were when we see that Saucerful Of Secrets is hardly distinguishable from Piper.
More was superb but a bit of a step down I must agree...but the next album Ummagumma was epic. And then excellence ensued from there.
Syd was a great talent we know. And it would have been interesting to see how he would have performed had he lived.
But the iconic achievements of this band having risen to one of the very greatest rock bands ever is jaw dropping!
@Im Everywhere well yes some songs they wrote about Syd. They missed him. They were very creative with Std and without.
Let's not forget they lost Syd, but they gained David Gilmour!
From the Syd Barrett era:
1) Lucifer Sam
2) Bike
3) Astronomy Domine (live version from 'Let's All Make Love in London' warning: it's long!)
4) Vegetable Man
5) Jugband Blues
Immediate Post Syd Era:
1) Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun
2) Obscured by Clouds
3) Free Four
4) Come in Number 51, Your Time Is Up
Post Syd Evolution leading to Darkside
1) Careful with that Axe Eugene aka One of These Days)
2) Fearless
3) St. Tropez
Darkside & WYWH Era & Beyond
1) Breathe
2) Brain Damage
3) Have a Cigar
4) Wish You Were Here
5) Shine on You Crazy Diamond (all parts)
6) Animals- the whole album
7) Vera & Bring the Boys Back Home (have to play them together)
8) Comfortably Numb
9) The Postwar Dream
10) One of the Few
11) Not Now John
Post Roger Waters Era
1) Learning to Fly
2) High Hopes
That will keep you busy!
One of these days is on the meddle LP
Careful with that ax Eugene was the B-side single of point me to the sky 1968 other than that all good selections👍
To that list I would add Green is the Colour and The Narrow Way
I love early Floyd and psychedelic rock. Maybe try their song See Emily Play. Thanks Scribe. You just keep getting better.
Richard Wright was everything Pink Floyd , the band wouldn't have been the same without him . That is widely acknowledged. R.I.P
This song is irresistible to me. Thanks for covering Floyd during their awesome early era!
ScribeCash, thank you for covering this. I always loved this song ever since i was a kid, but i had never seen that video coupled with it before. This may sound like a stretch in thinking, but you know what the the mannequin scenes reminded me of ?: specifically Mad Max (The Road Warrior Part One) where there is a notable mannequin scene on a similar looking beach -but with more creep & less humor. Of course, the beaches are not the same as Mad Max was filmed entirely in Australia, but i feel a relationship between them.
Good Reaction !
Now it HAS to be " SEE EMILY PLAY" bt the Boys..
Always good to hear Syd. See Emily Play would be the next to react to. First Floyd Song I ever heard. But also "Bike" is a firm favourite of most Syd Barret fans. PS favourite is the right spelling.
As this wonderful track demonstrates, early Pink Floyd was a much different animal. Fantastic
Syd Barrett is God incarnated. He left his physical body completely after a while.
The Original PINK FLOYD that started out as a psychedelic band and the singer Syd Barrett just went full lsd burnout ..Syd got the name from two black blues men from CAROLINA - Pink Anderson and Floyd Council
This is during the Psychedelic period of Pink Floyd, and It is an organ being played by Richard Wright.. Syd Barrett the singer before David Gilmore joined, was heavy into acid...
Oh, in answer to your question, I think it’s a Farfisa organ on the keyboard solo as performed by the late Rick Wright.
Also, I’ve just gotta complement what your wearing in how it (once again) matches the promo vid you’re reacting to. 👍✨
Classic Floyd with the late great Syd Barret the legend the martyr the raver and seer of far away visions
ScribeCash + Syd Barrett? I am happy. 🤩⭐️😎😁💣🖤❤️
shine on you crazy diamond
Syd was a genius.
Best song ever about a peeping tom who gets arrested! And another vote for See Emily Play as your next Pink Floyd song.
It's actually about a cross dresser that steals women's underwear off washing lines,it's all in the lyrics.
Syd you are depth here girl... ❤️
This was a lovely surprise. You might like the other most famous original-era (i.e., with founder Syd Barrett) Pink Floyd song "See Emily Play." Psychedelia's origins!!!
Their first single!...and it got banned by BBC Radio because of "smutty lyrics."
And the potential homosexual influence.😂
i used the arnold layne video in a documentary abut syd barrett . i reversed the clip , i sped it up , i reversed and sped up the audio and got a copywrite strike . lol good for you ! ANYONE RAISING AWARENESS OF SYDS MUSIC is doing a good thing in my book .
When Syd was still leading the group most of their single length songs, for example "Arnold Layne", "See Emily Play", & "Candy and a Current Bun" have melodies and lyrics that have an almost Beatles style to them, although the topics are generally less mainstream compared to the Beatles. At the same time, those songs still have distinctive hint of psychedelic baseline and ambiance to them, which is a hallmark of Pink Floyd.
Their longer works from the Syd period, and moving on thru the transition to Waters as the principal songwriter, for example "Interstellar Overdrive", "Astronomy Domine" & "Careful with that Axe, Eugene" show the psychedelic baseline and ambiance in a more dominant way, and feel right in line with the heart of what I think of as standard Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, & The Wall.
I would love to see your reaction to the album Animals. I strongly recommend reacting to the songs in order, since there is something of an underlying story being told in that album. Not quite the level of story telling you get with The Wall, but still there. Fair warning, the heart of the album, the middle 3 of the 5 tracks on the album, are looooong tracks; all over 10 minutes each.
That's weird - I was just thinking it reminded me of the Beatles' Eleanor Rigby
@@danielswood The Beatles were enjoying huge success and popularity worldwide right when Pink Floyd was starting out. It is almost impossible to imagine that Pink Floyd's singles were not influenced by the Beatles singles. Added to that, when Pink Floyd was in Abbey Road Studio recording "Piper", The Beatles were in the Studio next door recording "Sgt. Pepper". So, the influence probably flowed both directions. "Sgt pepper", "Magical Mystery Tour" and "Yellow Submarine" were clearly all working in elements of psychedelic rock, and album length storytelling, mostly absent in the early Beatles work.
Of course, one could argue instead that both bands were sharing the same influences at the same time. Ravi Shankar, Eastern Mysticism, & LSD all seemed to roll into British pop music at that same moment. However, with the fact that they were literally in the same building at the same time, and undoubtedly were listening to each others work as it was created, they almost certain they influenced each other.
@@dylanclements413 Well thanks for your lengthy reply! Yep, that Sexy Sadie and his ilk sure spread it around in the 60s - think it's all morphed into the preoccupation with mindfulness these days.
Arnold Layne's hobby, was stealing women's underwear off washing lines, while they were drying
React also See Emily play (official video)
Someone locked Syd Barratt in a cupboard after giving him STP and he was banging around on a bad bad trip.. this was on a Friday.. on the Monday when he went back to the studio, or gig, they saw he had gone, different person, no spark in his eyes, its not a game for romantic.
2:11 That's Syd.
Great song for a reaction Scribe! The lead singer and guitarist, Syd Barrett, did too much acid and he was kicked out of the band because they felt he was mentally ill. He was replaced by David Gilmour and the next several albums the band made were about Syd. Despite being kicked out he went out to do some solo work that was completed with some members of Pink Floyd. He left music in 1972 but Pink Floyd went on and releasing albums that made constant references to him including "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" on Wish You Were Here, and the double album The Wall. Syd actually visited the band when they were recording "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" but no one recognized him because he had gained weight and shaved all of his hair off, including his eyebrows! In the movie The Wall the lead character has a scene where he shaves off his hair and has a mental breakdown. Syd died of pancreatic cancer, and it's a shame he chose to give into his demons, but when it comes to drugs, there's no victims, there's only volunteers. The thing is, if he hadn't had chosen drugs, we wouldn't have had the albums with David Gilmour. David would've been famous on his own but David with the rest of Pink Floyd had a chemistry that can't be replicated!
@elliot lang Syd was a founding member and was a legendary musician but the music PF made with Syd didn’t have the same production quality or commercial success that they had with David. No disrespect to Syd but with all of them kicking around the music scene in that genre David would’ve eventually ended up in PF.
@elliot lang there are many ways to look at it. You’re right, when Syd joined things began happening, but many people contributed to moving PF into the limelight. Richard Wright had a buddy who gave them free studio time, their first managers invested in instruments and the light show they became known for. David and Syd went to college together and were even in a band together before PF. Syd chose his own selfish desires and almost screwed up the careers of everyone else when gigs were getting canceled because he was too stoned and too brain damaged to play. The first album without Syd was Dark Side of The Moon and not only were the musicians at the top of their game, but the recording engineering was top shelf and that never would’ve happened with Syd.
@elliot lang I'm referring to success in the US, but you're right, they did have other albums. A Saucerful of Secrets did have a song by Syd though. UmmaGumma was part live recordings and part experimental songs by each band member. Roger Waters said he was never happy with Atom Heart Mother and wished it had been put in the trash and David was equally unhappy with it. Meddle, while popular in Europe, only hit #70 in the US Billboard charts. It was definitely a departure from the Syd style of PF music and the next album and all following albums all charted in the top 10 in the US, most in the top 3! I'm glad you got to see them! I saw them without Roger Waters on the Delicate Sound of Thunder tour and the Division Bell tour. It was visually orgasmic!
He had schizophrenia. Acid isn’t good when you have it but it wasn’t acid that made him mentally ill.
@@tylerdell1878 I never said acid caused his mental illness. I said he did acid and the band suspected he was mentally ill. He was only suspected of having schizophrenia, although according to this link www.schizophrenia.com/sznews/archives/003640.html# he was believed to have schizophrenia through drug use and pressure from his career.
2:13 That's Waters(Lurch).
Cool deep cut tune from PINK FLOYD... check out 21 pilots "Level of Concern" Should be the runner up to Chris Stapleton's song "Cold" for song of the year
Definitely try Lucifer Sam !!!!
Love your reaction but you missed the cute film reverse when you closed your eyes
Well done for this discovery, you seem like a person who likes grooving music.
But how would you like to be sitting in a field on a beautiful summer day with David Gilmour to your right and Roger Waters to your left, singing and playing guitar, just for you in the depths of nature?
If so, you have to listen to: (Grantchester Meadows) from the album Ummagumma.
I very much hope to have piqued your curiosity.
Check out David Gilmore and David Bowie Arnold lane
Welcome welcome to the world of Syd Barrett my dear see that's the song Shine On You Crazy Diamond was written about Syd Barrett see he was out of the band early on the poor man had some difficulties yeah the deal with he was Disturbed mentally unfortunately he was just a complete mad genius I guess anyhow he did some solo stuff later on the guitarist who joined to replace him I helped him when he made his solo albums that would be David Gilmour I don't know if you had reacted to Shine On You Crazy Diamond but there is a I don't know heart 6 to 9 or whatever there's a Shine On You Crazy Diamond on the second side of the record course I'm thinking vinyl these days but yeah at the end of the CD or the end of the album so you don't have to react to that because man you want to talk about a groove going on hey I'll stake my reputation on it you know you can say yeah that Brian said there's some funky grooves going on so there better be well just check it out and see if I'm lyin " yeah so welcome to the world of psychedelic I mean you know we're talking 1967 Yeah that's when that was all going on The Swinging London. all right girl check you on the next drop
Do " Float On " -----Floaters
This song is about a guy stealing women's clothes from clothing lines at night and going to jail
pre David Gilmour era PF
Not an organ - early synthesizer.
Can you see the Beatles influence? The early works are spotty for me, once you get to Atom Heart Mother and beyond less silliness and a more developed sound and lyric combo.
Imo Reacting to the video was not the best way. The video kinda took away from the story of the lyric. Syd Barrett deserved better. No shade on you though Scribble. At least u dig the sound.
Yes it's an Organ.
Just stop with the “black person listens to pink floyd” videos , you’re selling yourself
I don't think she got it at all.
She missed some cool parts of the video keeping her eyes closed
