  • REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is a disorder in which people talk or move during their dreaming sleep. Epidemiological studies suggest that enacted dreaming or RBD predicts a more than 80 % chance of developing a neurodegenerative disease within the patient's lifetime. One of the most common RBD-linked ailments is Parkinson's disease (PD), characterized by loss of motor control, Lewy body dementia, and multiple system atrophy. The researchers hope that clinical and biological markers will eventually
help in PD prognosis in RBD patients and investigate therapies that target
alpha-synuclein years before debilitating symptoms appear.
