What is the difference between Dry and Wet AMD?

In this video, Dr. Simran Toor OD, an optometrist in Olympia, explains the difference between dry and wet AMD and what can be done to slow down the progression of it. Typically, the dry form of macular degeneration has less severe symptoms, and you might not notice any symptoms at all whereas the wet form is the more severe form of the disease that can cause drastic changes in your vision.
There is nothing that can be done to completely cure the disease, however there things you can do to slow down its progression and maximize your remaining vision to get the most out of life:
- Protection from UV light
- Taking AREDS2 supplements
- Cut back on smoking
- Using anti-VEGF injections to prevent blood vessels from leaking
- Working with a low vision optometrist that can hep you navigate life after vision loss.
