Wonderful acting from many years ago. Class. Nigel looks about 18 here, but his 25. Patricia was an incredible actress. Thanks for this very entertaining.
MAGNIFICENT scripting and acting!!! I love Patricia Hayes. I love Raymond Huntley who was brilliant as the Bellamy's lawyer in Upstairs & Downstairs, another priceless gem of British TV. And my word - isn't Nigel Havers quite the dashing young man!!!!!!!!
Yes! Modern "historic" films usually get the dress colours completely wrong. Nobody wore red dresses for instance, except courtesans, "fast women"or streetwalkers...
Grew up in Wandsworth in a block of flats above the Arndale Centre and me and my parents, from Battersea, bumped into Patricia around this time and they chatted for an hour!
Yes. Something like this and maybe another good program on the other channels. And now hundreds of channels to click through and nothing worth watching. Consumer choice indeed!
Unfortunately it's not about quality of content anymore, it really isn't, it's about representation, and whilst that's the most important thing, unwatchable rubbish is what you're going to get. I no longer watch regular TV, I even had my aerial removed, I dip in & out of the occasional modern day show, but rarely, everything now is in the past 2010
You're braver than I am! I rarely proceed beyond 2000, and then with extreme caution! Especially when I plan to watch with my children. Before then it's usually easy to tell what will be suitable, after then the gratuitous sex and violence or even sexual violence is so random it comes from nowhere. Then add the terrible scripts, the total disregard for period costume or manner. Now we have all the cultural revision as well. This is not America and we don't share their history.
This is a wonderful little drama, beautifully acted, but also with high production values. I noticed in the few shots where men`s shoes are seen they are wearing galoshes, quite rightly. I hope more of this series can be uploaded and enjoyed.
Have to watch again to catch up, its been so long since I've watched a decent series like this...every thing happens so quickly in shows today I've got use to it😢
We saw Nigel Havers and Patricia Hodge at our local theatre last winter,in Noel Coward's 'Private Lives'. They were absolutely fantastic. We had front row seats. The energy they had,the sheer delight in the response of the audience was just wonderful. When Havers made his first entrance to a theatre 3/4 full of women 😂 he was grinning from ear to ear, almost walking on air! They were such fun.
Greetings from the original Portland, home of the stone that built London and every War memorial across the empire! It was once an island but the Victorians were taking so much stone that Prince Albert instigated a causeway with a railway to be built. It's very special for carving, the dust is safe if inhaled so especially loved by stone masons and sculptors.
How refreshing to have a properly written story, well acted and directed. So tired of reality tv programmes where everyone has ‘issues’ and argues all the time. Perhaps programme makers need to revisit these classic dramas and rethink their productions as I’m sure there is a market for these type of programmes that do not rely on audience participations, voting, insults etc..
Nothing much has changed, to modern times. Manipulations towards some 'boys club' mentality that they all feel is within their rite. Very memorable Actors.
On 10th July 2024, the Royal Courts of Justice in Strand is now closed to the genral public for access to justice . How is that for 21st Century progress!
Did i read the Royal Court is closed for good? The royals will now be seen in regular court. But the jury of their peers will have to be dealt with tho. Right?

Absolutely fabulous ❤️Thank you Classic British Telly!
i loved Paricias acting..whatever she was in her acting was always of the most highest calibre. God bless her
Absolutely agree - she is very well and fondly remembered in our house.
We need to return to quality television programming again. If only.....
it would be great, but we've travelled too far down the ' Reality TV ' road, so they don't have to pay actors, screenwriters etc
@@johncarlisle6865 I gave up on tv when we started to have 9 minutes of programme and four minutes of advertising.
RUclips is my tv....
@@voulafisentzidis8830 yes, RUclips is also my TV now
@@voulafisentzidis8830 So's mine, with adblock.
If only ,indeed
MAGNIFICENT!!!
PLEASE, let's have more episodes.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant!
What a delight! Thank you❤
The expense and effort on these sets are extraordinary
What an amazing cast!! Extremely enjoyably to watch! Thank you for posting!
Richard Wilson's voice never changed - I expected him to stand up at the end and yell "I do not believe it!"
Thanks for uploading this. A popular series in its day. Even Benny Hill did a parody!
My goodness, I wish more of this series was available! Very entertaining.
Exceptionally well crafted; I particularly appreciated the accurate period costumery....
Yes! Modern "historic" films usually get the dress colours completely wrong. Nobody wore red dresses for instance, except courtesans, "fast women"or streetwalkers...
It's the dyed hair, the false white teeth, lack of headwear and the missing underwear that denies the clothes their proper shape that gets me 😂
Grew up in Wandsworth in a block of flats above the Arndale Centre and me and my parents, from Battersea, bumped into Patricia around this time and they chatted for an hour!
Fantastic. Thank you😊
If only TV was still as good as this

Don't you know GOOD TV IS RACIST! God, I hate the woketards...

What an absolute gem❤❤❤❤❤❤
Class acting by Patricia Hayes.
Am absolute delight to watch.
Patricia Hayes was a fabulous actress.
And an even better comedienne
She could sing, too.
Excellent! Great cast and great acting by all. I didn't recognize any of them but I sure enjoyed this.
Wonderful.
Thank you very much for uploading this treasure :)

This wasn't 'high production values', this was just how things were done then, correctly, even children's shows looked like this!
Very interesting. Thank you
Extremely well done. Thank you.
I love Patricia Hayes, such a wonderful actress.
The very finest!❤
I love her in 'Edna the inebriated woman '. A terribly moving part that she put her heart and soul in to.
Fabulous upload ! I've been looking for episodes of this series for literally decades - Would love to see the one with Twiggy - Many thanks.
Miss Robinson, the mistress, was one of the future ghosts from Nicole Kidman's 'The Others', she always had such an extraordinary voice!
Amusing story. Thank you.
British television at its finest. Tragically, how low we've sunk to gutter level.
Have to watch again to catch up, its been so long since I've watched a decent series like this...every thing happens so quickly in shows today I've got use to it😢
More please!
Patrica Hayes is marvellous
Patricia was a wonderful actress, and Nigel looks so young,it was excellent 👍🏻

I have heard of portland stone😊 nigel havers was good in the charmer tv program

It’s that lawyer on Upstairs and Downstairs!
Obviously he got typecast! And Victor Meldrew too😮
Nigel Havers was also on "Upstairs Downstairs" as Peter Dinmont, one of Georgina's friends.
Really enjoyed it great acting thanks ❤

I want more! Will you be uploading the entire series?
This is the third of seven episodes of the series Victorian Scandals. Will you be posting the other six? I hope so!
Actors who later were in Coronation Street Brideshead Revisted and One foot in the grave
very enjoyable.
Those were the days: 3-4 generations staring at the same screen.
We manage two in this house!
Brilliant thank you🎉
This is facinating. I'm wondering if it's based on historical fact. If not, it's a clever entertaining story.
It is based on the 5th Duke of Portland. If you look up the Druce Case you'll fine info on it. The 5th Duke was absolutely wackadoodle nuts.
@@withonelook1985 I did, it was in the description on the channel.
Thanks so much.😊
Excellent, are there any more coming ? I was away from the UK during 1976 and would have missed this.
Nothing much has changed, to modern times. Manipulations towards some 'boys club' mentality that they all feel is within their rite. Very memorable Actors.
Richard Wilson is also wonderful.
This is great fun!
On 10th July 2024, the Royal Courts of Justice in Strand is now closed to the genral public for access to justice . How is that for 21st Century progress!
Seriously? Wow. Getting ready to prosecute British legacy citizens, I suppose.
Fascinating!!
LOL "You're a lunatic...your grace" LOL! I like that woman.
Great performance by old lady.
Can you upload all the episodes?
What an amazing story!!! Poor Annie, did she ever got out of the asylum?
the brilliant actor Raymond Huntley
There were some nasty shlotzers around back in the day ☝
👍👍👍
More!
wonderful
Good play.

I really enjoyed that, I recognised one of the lawyers voice as I know him in another great show as Victor Meldrew sorry I don’t know his real name.
Richard Wilson!
The One Foot in the Grave actor as a young man! 😮
How British TV has deteriorated. There's never any single episode plays or dramas nowadays.
Was the brilliant Patricia Hayes a Shakespearean actress at the Old Vic??
Any moy episodes of this??
Great!👍
I wanted to say this is great TV and so much better than we have now but it's just as crap.
❤❤❤❤❤
Sir Geoffrey
From the voice I recognised the Duke of Portland's lawyer.. . Nobody else? I don't believe it! 😊
We just don´t dare - he punched a priest for this once, You know...
@@rev.buttons2482 I say it from the safe distance of the Indian subcontinent. Hehehe
Did this show air on PBS 🤔?
💜
I can't follow this plot. Was the old lady totally wrong?
No one knows because the tomb wasn't opened to find out, and it was then destroyed in WWII.
It's Mrs Capper!
'Skittles'?
A young Victor Meldrew. Well not so very young 😅😅😅
A brilliant program ruined by the ending.
Zzzzzzzzz.
Very stupid and long
wonderful! Are there any more of this series?
Crap. No direction and a waste of the great R Wilson's talents.
Temper :Temper!
