The variety just isn’t there like previous decades. The production values particularly give the songs all the same kind of vibe and it becomes monotonous. Having said that, the first half of the decade was better than the second
Agreed. This was the time I turned off pop radio and just haven't gone back. Everything started to sound kind of blended together and bland. I mean, these were the number one songs of each month! That kinda tells you the state of pop terrestrial radio at the time.
I'd say maybe there wasn't as much variety, but the stark contrast between the two megahitter genres on the charts - pop punk/modern emo, and club/rnb pop - was very interesting and carved a very unique identity for the decade. Now, the 2010's? That's the most chart variety you'll ever get! The 2010's began with the EDM era realising its full potential, which was followed by and neck and neck with the folk pop boom, and steadily progressed into the dominance of rap and the charts' "dark" pop era, ending with the resurgence of disco pop/retro pop of all things and some of the 2000's pop punk trickling back into the mainstream! And then somewhere in between all of that, Simon Cowell's reality TV factory pushed out 3 of the biggest pop groups of all time, Rihanna became a billionaire, pop stars created new genres, the fusion of metal and pop started to spread its wings, and social media completely changed the game even after streaming, with forgotten hits, hidden gems of past chart heavyhitters, and fresh tracks from independent artists all finding their time to go viral every other week thanks to Tiktok/Instagram. To put it simply, the 2000's might be easy to form opinion on based on preference, but the 2010's was both a time for innovation AND tasteful nostalgic art :)
@t c I'd agree with you, it won't show as much variety as what was really around, but this isn't because those songs weren't big. I mean, there was still way more variety in the 2000's than this list shows, but it's taking the TOP songs, there are so many great songs in **every** era of music that just miss that top spot! Alot of UK acts miss that top spot too, so that also takes away a large portion of variety.
Lot of songs didn’t make the list. Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Michelle Branch, Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jojo, Janet Jackson, ATC, Five for Fighting, Santana, and others were ALL over the radio in the decade.
Dr. Dre produced the beats for that big Mary J. Blige hit "Family Affair." You really should check out the Pink hit "Let's Get This Party Started." Great video. They showed just a bit of it here.
Oh oh oh - regarding the song by Timberland 'The way I are' july 2007 - Timberland made a very cool version with a Danish band from Denmark/Europe (were I'm from) - U really have to check that one out - and in that version Nephew (the Danish Band) also mashed up one of their own songs called 'igen og igen og' but in an English version :-) the song to check out is this one 'Timbaland feat. I was in school in the 2000s. Most of these songs were well known and repeatedly played on the radio but I think most of the songs we actually listened to or had on our phones, ipods or mp3 players did not make this list.
My man wasn't even ashamed of running back to watch Beyonce twice. I watched that music video many times too.
Maaan. You taking me baaack!!!
Fun fact: Umbrella was hated here in the UK because summer 2007 was very wet with severe flooding.
Most of these songs are on my playlist
Many of those groups just disappeared. Outkast, I really loved that song Hey Yeah. I forgot how many great songs were in the 2000's. So many!

This was like being back in my bedroom as a teenager thinking I was shakira🤣🎙 big love on this one❤️
Keri Hilson - The way I are -- NEPHEW REMIX' - copy the hole text and paste it in the top 🙂
2000s is my teen hood. Major nostalgia here

Trip down memorylane♡♡
Time for some Pink: Get The Party Started!
I was in school in the 2000s. Most of these songs were well known and repeatedly played on the radio but I think most of the songs we actually listened to or had on our phones, ipods or mp3 players did not make this list. It was also the era that piracy was at its absolute peak so I dont know what impact that may have had
Damn these took me back. A lot of songs I didn't appreciate enough when they were popping off.
Hahaha can't believe you haven't heard las ketchup. Back in the day we all did the dance! That's a "must react to" song!
And the singer who was on the tip of your tongue was Amy Winehouse.
