An claymation short by Aardman Animations Productions
Written and Directed by Steve Box
I do not own the rights to this video.
This is a really neat short done by the same studio and director as Wallace & Gromit
This terrified me when I watched it as a kid on the Were-Rabbit DVD, and it still scares me today and I'm in my 20s.
ik its messed up
DUDE SAMEEE
Same, the moment when the organist says, "Going Down" that really messed me up as a kid. I'm now 20 and it still creeps me out
PhantomBloo same here
Perrygallo and me i have 15
The “going down” part really freaked me out. Like, I get the villain deserved it, but seeing him descend down into the dark looked super eerie.
That's nonsense
That's cause he went down too hell for his all the sins he's done... he's a bully, he abused his GF and he was going to hurt the little Chihuahuas all for his hat
And the silent look of horror and fear and desperation on his face
Also that and the fact they couldn't use hellfire and that
This short was a bonus on a Wallace and Gromit video I had. It really fucked me up watching it as a kid, and even now it still freaks me out. The people at Aardman Animations sure know how to tell a story, funny or freaky.
+Durasprite fuck yeah
Same here aha
I know same
When I worked on my marvel project I always had in mind with Demogoblin who was a Spider-Man villain in the 90's Spider-Man comics after he is defeated to have the ghost of his human host to show up with Grim Reaper coming up from the underworld in a elevator with demogoblin and him saying going down and having Spider-Man and his friend seeing the human host going down to hell as a refence to the short film stage fright
Rachel A. Leweke same
Aside from this being a creepy story of a dog juggler's failed career, it has some history involved in it too. When film first appeared, people stopped going to plays. It also shows how famous people have two faces, the nice guy on the screen and the real life jerk.
It’s more like vaudeville than just stage
It is vaudeville
Yeah but because of the introduction of silent films and talkies in the 1920s and 30s vaudeville was dying out slowly
@@YeahitsMeSylvia What if instead of dying out, Vaudeville took a brief hiatus before coming back again? That could've been swell.
@@reneastle8447 even if they return it'd be still film because of phones and recording
The piano man used to always scare me as a kid
Alexander Melrose GOING DOWN
The Kreepy Krab
I believe he was an organist.
The Friend of Many Squirrels Basso Profundo
It's an organ
The scene of Arnold descending into hell terrified me as a kid
Arnold Hugh is a Great Bully.
I don't like Arnold Hugh he's nothing but a common brute! 😡
He's a narcissistic, rude, cruel, thoughtless, abusive, overgrown, selfish bully!
Right? Even though he had it coming, it's pretty terrifying seeing how he's trying to reach toward above as he fastly descends.
He look like the farmer from Shaun the Sheep
The organist gave me the goosebumps, and the creeps. It's more creepy as he only has two words and looks sinister
Mr Hew's soul later reincarnated as a farmer in shaun the sheep.
ROFL XD
+Lydia Byron there is no such thing as Reincarnation. Hew burned in Hell for all eternity. The shepherd is just some look-a-like.
Luke Dearey it's clearly a joke, like it's not serious. And neither incarnation or hell have been proven true so saying there's no such thing as incarnation is just silly and uninformed
Gaming 1776 wow so he went from a actor to a farmer
Lydia Byron holy shit i never saw that
This scared the absolute shit out of me when I saw it for the first time. It is just disturbing and has an uneasy atmosphere.
its really dark tone just comes out of nowhere when Arnold dies, scared me shitless is right
it’s dark for little kids
The teeth the eyes and the voice to scary
I found it by accident as a kid when watching Curse of the Ware Rabbit.... was Horrified and I loved it.
I found this video when I was searching for aardman logo 1972
I thought it was a weird dream i had when i was little! I didn't think this actually existed!
hahaha, Same.

8:34 He kicks the bucket. Do you get it. He "kicks" the "bucket"
Because he's dead
BAH DUM TISS
I never would have caught that! thanks Peridot!
Bunny (∞) I thought I was the only one!
That was F***ing funny! Lol
*_Going Down_*
the people at aardman are so talented they can make you feel happy with wallace and grommit or shawn the sheep and then there is this which can make you shit your pants
What will it be like if Aardman also provided stop motion animation for Pingu, TUGS, and Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends? That could've been fun in my opinion.
It never scared me 😕 It was mostly sad and then gave a bright and hopeful ending 🥰❤️
A crumbling, decrepit theater shrouded in darkness, a towering, menacing man, a howl of anguish from a helpless character... bar none my first horror experience as a child. Glad I'm not the only one
The young me was terrified of this, however as I grow older I find myself oddly intrigued by what once horrified me. It's really made be appreciate a lot of creative projects that I once watched and don't see a lot of today, shame really.
7:10 Mr Hugh
Man! Aardman can be so dark.
JONATHAN PINZON A contrast to the much more light hearted Wallace and Gromit.
Not most Aardman Animations are dark if some are unsuitable for children.
Ben Daly McKenna bro Wallace and gromit is dark too
Until a few years ago they made it cute friendly like Shaun the sheep
Christian Cerritos Shaun the sheep’s origins are pretty dark too, he was going to be turned into dog food
Even after all these years Those words always haunt me. GOING DOWN
In Basso Profundo style.
The weirdest part about this short is not the creepy tones of Mr. Hew and the whole fact that he ended up dying, but the fact that it had the creepy vibe from the 1920s as well. The song that Daphne plays during the film has that very reminiscent, creepy tone that most films and songs from back then would have
Funnily enough, this mirrors real history. That being "Film killed the Vaudeville star", which happened in the twenties.
07:50 Fight
That song at the end sounded sweet for a creep short like that 😊
Speaking of creepy 20s films the nightmare from Metropolis where that lady gets swallowed by the Beast from revelation
This feels like an Aardman version of Quasimodo with frolo and Esmeralda.
1: we need an ending explained
2: aardman should do more stuff like this, this shit’s the best
9:24 👻👻👻👻
Swearing is naughty and I'm a kid
@@squidydabeast2159 Yeah, this animated short has mild language.
Personally you can take it two ways, you can take it the literal way, or…
The Villain’s death signals the idea that sometimes it’s about the performance outside the screen, which is why he descended to hell with the Pianist.
Meanwhile both of our protagonists are respected because they are good people and them entering the light symbolises Heaven possibly.
That’s what I got so far.
@@erroroccurred404o Is the theatre purgatory/limbo?
As a child I always thought this short was more weird than creepy. But this is one amazing short!
I watched this when I was 7. I had such bad nightmares afterwards...
me too
Daniel Griffith and short the times when i end watch this animation
I like how he literally kicked the bucket when he kicked the bucket
I love how they made it so the projector turned on when Arnold hugh turned into a ghost, and it looked as he were some sort of 3d projection. Even the sound of It starting up just makes it so much creepier.
I never noticed that before. That’s a really nice eerie touch.
He look like the farmer from Shaun the Sheep
"Going Down!"
One of the best moments when a character goes to hell.
Omggg the bit with the creepy "going down" guy messed up my childhood :/ I was scared shitless
I can understand why I never touched it on the curse of the were rabbit dvd
As if the organ music wasn't unsettling enough when Tiny is revealed to be alive, it get almost scary when Arnold stands up. Eek.
You could say he 'kicked the bucket' when he died.
+Katie Collins CARLOS!
Katie Collins well he deserved what he got 😉
I Don't Get It.
@@Erich.C when people die it can be called "kicking the bucket", here he kicks the bucket both literally and metaphorically, hence the joke.
@@Frserthegreenengine Ohhhhhhhhhh, Ok.

mr. Hill, you Said.
It's Mr. Hew!!
@@danalt1539 He's the Great Bully!
Could have been the farmer’s terrible great uncle, whom the rest of the family had nothing to do with.
@Dylan Kelly Lol yes XD
I couldn't get past the title screen when I was younger. Scared me shirtless
*shitless
same.
Literally this was on my Wallace and grommit dvd and it gives me nightmares to this day man lol
This is my favorite short film ever. I just love it. The voice acting, the character designs, the atmosphere, the animation. It's perfect
I think the voices were “supplied” by Graham Fellows, he of John Shuttleworth fame.
I remember watching this from one of the short films from Wallace and Gromit when I was younger! Used to scare the heck out of me!
IKR
Same here. Especially how the Spirit says "Going... Down." Scared the crap out of me. Still chilling, actually.
Tori Rocha I pacifically have a memory of me watching this before I ate breakfast and me eating my frosted flakes in fear I still have chills to this day still freaks me out so much
Tori Rocha Same me and my brothers always just laughed at 'YOU BOOGER'
Tori Rocha it's a bit Strong, more now well i have 15 and in this day i watch it again
One of Aardman’s greatest short films. Unusually dark, violent for younger children which explains it was a PG? Plays more LAIKA than Aardman with the dark tone?
Plus two uses of “bloody” and one of “you bugger!”
That too. Doesn't mean anything to people outside of Britain and Ireland but we know it. The way the villain curses makes me chuckle with his Lancashire dialect. Something about him reminds me a little of a demented Farmer from SHAUN THE SHEEP. Same spiky ginger haircut
"YOU BUGGA!"
I nearly died laughing when I first heard that.
I’m now 20 years old, I first stumbled upon this as a kid on the Wallace and Gromit dvd. (I look back at those days very fondly.) I of course was terrified by this short and especially the piano man. I didn’t understand the message at all and was just shrouded by fear. Now that I’ve been able to grow up and watch this short again; while the piano man scene still gives me chills, I didn’t think the ending would be so touching. (I might’ve shed a tear or two.) It was both beautiful and touching that the actress came back to be by tinys side as they walk out to face the future, together. Having someone by your side you know you can depend on through thick and thin, whether it’s family, a lover, or a friend is something we all wish for. Secondly, (this is what really affected me); we all need to move forward without ever looking back. Tiny was afraid of opening that door, and like many of us, we’re afraid of what might happen if we open that door. However, Daphne assured him that she’ll always be by his side, which was beautiful. We can’t be prisoners of our past forever. To truly change, we need to let go of the pain we hold on to so fiercely, so that we may fight for a better day. I may be over analyzing it but for some reason this really hit home for me. (Sorry my Grammar sucks but this is RUclips)
Well-said, my friend. Well-said.
Best line "The Bullying had to Stop."
Nostalgic in the way a terrified 5 year old kid in the 2000's with a flatscreen crt is, truly a underrated Aardman masterpiece
You buggah!
Aardman
The uk animation who shows hanging, swares, killing and decending from hell by the grim reaper in 10 mins
AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
Aardman animation shorts have Awful Words?
By far in Aardman history, Mrs Tweedy and Mr Hugh are the most evil and darkest villains onscreen.
yeah very cold and evil
Oh my god, I remember i got a wallace and gromit movie and this was on the extras and i use to watch it every night, the name just popped into my head and i found it again i use to be so scared of this.. now i remember like all the words oh my god.. this is so cool.
This short scared me so badly when I was little. But I always watched it with the commentary so I wouldn't be so scared.
I am feeling several emotions
I remember when I was in middle school, I made a comic inspired by this but with different characters, which I currently have plans to make into a children’s book and hopefully a feature film, which is more inspired by not only this but Cats Don’t Dance, one of my favorite films.
I can't remember the last time I watched Curse of the Were-Rabbit, but I know one of the last times I ever opened the case for it was that I specifically wanted to watch this short. I literally just out of nowhere remembered this at 2:40 in the morning and was like, "hey I want to see if I can find this even though I can't remember what it's called." I'm glad I did, because I think this was one of the first horror things I ever watched before I started watching R-rated movies. This is why I love scary things, it can be in any form but still give you chills, even when it's more than ten years since you watched in, and it's about as old as you too. Good on ya Aardman, I doubt they'll ever read this but I feel like I still needed to say it. And judging by some of the comments, they need to go back to this, making kid friendly things is good and it brings the money, but every once in a while it's always good to do something out of the norm, since the kids who watched the fun movies and such have grown up now.
6:32 When a show you hate with a passion gets renewed for like a billion more seasons.
THIS PAGE IS DEAD So “Love Island” then?

Velma getting a 2nd season
Saw this when I was twelve and just discovering the darker side of the art form I loved as a kid. I was blown away some of the same people who worked on Wallace and Gromit also made this. The darkness, the violence, the drama all in the span of eleven minutes! It was a revelation for me and got me into Tim Burton and the Quay Brothers.
I don’t know why, but I always remembered this short with this horrible vision of the Grim Reaper on the organ, rather than just the Organist. Tattered black robes, skeleton, scythe and all. I don’t know why I remember it that way.
Aardman is an absolutely brilliant animation company.
"Going down", just the mere voice gives you goosebumps
They're Dark fantasy shorts of Aardman.

I loved this SO much as a kid, looking back I can see how this short film has influenced my ideas and artwork even today! Wow.
amazing short, so many lines that are stuck in my head
Yay ardman's dark side
exactly
Looks like Arnold literally kicked the bucket.
this is not creepy at all, in fact this is so beautiful 😭💗
OMFG I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND THIS FOR YEARS!!! Thank you. Just thank you you have made my year xxx
I love how everyone is from the same place, this short always gave me an uneasiness when I first saw it, especially the opening and end, just too quiet. Doesn't really affect me today, but it still is eerie lol
This film is something that used to scare me as a kid. Now I can't help but appreciate the art :)
I just love the dark aesthetic of this movie
I finally found this after years, couldn’t find my were-rabbit dvd but had VIVID memories of this short. I remember being terrified as a kid. So crazy
The dodgy Yorkshire or Geordie accents just make this utterly hilarious...even if the tone is kind of dark and violent toward the end.
Skinny Ebert, Siskel with Hair It's Graham fellows aka John shuttleworth. You can't get much more authentic Yorkshire than that.
That part where he said, "Going down" REALLYYYY creeped me out!! DX
Aardman actually did some really terrifying shorts! When I was a kid in 2000 my dad got the creature comforts vhs and I watched it, thinking clay models were for kids. How wrong I was... 'Not without my handbag' has haunted me to this day, and I only brought myself to watch it again 3 years ago. Not something a 6 year old should have seen. Traumatised. Even now I can see how this dark humour is scary 😅 glad I didn't watch this one till now. These should come with a warning!
Why does the villain have Harold Lloyd glasses? I get that they wanted to base him on a real silent film star, but Lloyd seems like an odd choice since I've never heard of him acting cruel off the set.
That was a mad thing to put on the Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Ware Rabbit DVD
when I saw this short first in 2006, I was extremely freaked out of my wits; who knew Aardman had such a dark side
That's not the only one
I just remembered this short existed and I decided to rewatch it years after I originally watched it on a Wallace and Gromit dvd I had. I remember being terrified of it to the point where I didn’t even want to watch the DVD anymore. I remember the ‘going down’ part being the scariest for me and my sister would say it to tease me. Watching it now as an adult I actually appreciate this short and I find it more bittersweet than scary. (I actually teared up a bit) I think if I watched this at the age I am now and not a little kid I wouldn’t have been scared at all and genuinely enjoy it but I still do think this was too much for a kids dvd. If the short had to be on the dvd I think it should have at least came with a disclaimer saying that kids could find it scary but thats just me and maybe I was too paranoid as a kid
i was about to come here and write this exact same thing except i'm still scared of it it's so hellish
@@pretzel6629 I don’t blame you despite not being scared anymore I still feel a bit uneasy thinking about this short but that could be because I spent years terrified of it. Also something about this being on a kids dvd adds another creepiness factor. I wanna know what person thought it would be a good idea to include this on a children’s dvd since it seems every kid that saw this was scared
@@flowerzforsaturn to be fair not all of Aardmans work is for kids. They made shorts about the apocalypse (or how many Christians interpret it) and other somewhat dark or adult themed things
I agree it was quite jarring to grow up on their kids stuff and stumble on this though. Like finding a bloody knife in a toy bin
@@pretzel6629 oh wow I didn’t know that! I knew they didn’t just focus on children’s media as they’ve done commercials but I had no idea they actually did more mature animation. Although I should have guessed with movies like Chicken Run and this short they definitely have a more mature feel despite being targeted to kids
I remember seeing this as a kid, I think it was one of my Wallace and Gromit DVDs that I had as a kid. Still to this day, this has creeped me out and made me feel uneasy.
Mr. Huge: You Buggah!
Tiny: (Howls)
shit me up as a kid this i had to throw the dvd away
this was so creepy when I was younger
I felt the same way to back when I was a kid I saw it once and I never saw it aging after that.
James O'Donnell your picture... is scary
TAFM017 homber sampson is watching
James O'Donnell I really don't want him to watch me...
then be ignorant to the face in your window
I remember seeing this on the Wallace and Gromit the Curse of the Were Rabbit DVD for the first time and was a bit creeped out by it. But over time began to appreciate it even more. After all, it's Aardmann we're talking about.
If I was to have a guest what decade this takes place I would have to say either the 1920s or 1930s. Around those periods of time film was becoming more and more popular and people's interest theatre plays was wasn't there like it was before. Hence why Tiny says at the beginning "They don't like me anymore." And why the theatre has over time fell into a sorry state. This is also shows a representation of some actors having two sides. Arnold appears to be a nice guy on screen, but off screen he is so cruel and abusive towards Tiny and takes all the credit because he saw money to be made out of the dogs and even tells Daphne to keep her mouth shut if she wants to keep on appearing in his films which makes Arnold's death a lot more satisfying later on.
Overall this definitely one of my favourite shorts from Aardmann Animations. It seems to be very underrated as most of their other works like Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run tend to get more attention and this definitely deserves more recognition.
Also, why does the villain look a little like the shepherd or farmer from SHAUN THE SHEEP? Coincidental?
Well, you never see them in the same room, so...
I remember watching Shaun the Sheep when it first came on, when I saw the farmer I thought "Isn't that the horrible bloke from Stage Fright??" Haha! xD
Skinny Ebert, Siskel with Hair Since this seems to take place in the 1920s / 1930s, and since Shawn the Sheep takes place in modern time (The sheep constantly use phones and tablets), I think that the Farmer is a descendant of mr Hew's family line.
My theory is that they were long lost brothers
@@txshiroo._ One is a man who clearly loves his animals, the other just abuses Tiny's dogs, Daphne and Tiny himself.
This upset me so much as a child, I had to leave the room and ask my grandma to check if it was still playing before I would come back in.
8:53 is my favorite part but it's very dark sometimes because the organ music is the touch but the bully had his soul go down too hell but honestly aardmen didn't want to show flames so they decided to tell the kids never bully anyone or else it's the underworld... this movie is actually art 😂😂😂
That lady look like Mrs. Tweedy (Chicken Run), the evil guy look like the farmer (Shaun the Sheep) and that ghost look like the toad (Flushed Away)
well its aardman
@abrahamcortina2171, The differences between those three characters are very interesting.
*1. Daphne is very sympathetic, supportive and loyal towards Tiny, While Melisha Tweedy dumped Willard Tweedy for Dr. Marcus Fry.
*2. Arnold Hugh is just a corrupt actor without any sympathetic qualities, While The Father Of Mossy Bottom Farm is a Tough Farmer with a Heart Of Gold.
*3. The Ghostly Organist is creepy, but very benevolent spirit, While The Toad is a Villainous Upper Class Amphibian with a Tragic Backstory and a Compassionate Side towards his Tadpoles/Children.
wait it was one guy doing all the voices? wow
Graham Fellows voiced Tiny and Arnold, while Tess Daulton played Daphne.
Absolutely awesome! Thumbs totally up. The fear, i.e. the stage freight is a place of destruction, a place destined to go to hell, whereas the artist is destined to be divinely saved, which includes nature as a force to defeat the source of fear seen as a bully pictured with regards to hierarchic superior political and economic power. Beautifully made!
I love Northern English accents.
I remember watching this short film in two ways, first as a clip on the Chicken Run DVD, then as a whole on the second disc of the Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit DVD.
Ironically, theatre continued to live on while those kinds of films didn't
Man, I remember watching this on the Wallus and Gromet DvD when I was a little kid, and it scared me! I was so afraid of looking at the bonus features for so long because I was scared that the short would play again. Man this was a dark short. But it is fun to rewatch it since now I’m older and am a fan of horror
I can't believe all that horror atmosphere and build-up was just for a "kicked the bucket" joke. Gotta admire the effort.
I watched this when I was 8, and it terrified me. But since then I've been looking for it and now I've found it; still terrifying.
You're not alone. This was one of the shorts featured on the DVD of Wallace and Grommet: The Curse of the Wererabbit and it's still creepy now.
