Gilbert OSullivan’s songs are relatable to my childhood. I was born and raised in the U.K. In the 60’s. I’m now 56 yes old and living in the U.S. My parents are passed and even at this age I grieve for them. Such wonderful times in the 70’s and 80’s
Of all time? Seriously?? Ever heard of Rod Temperton? Prince? Elton John? Quincy Jones? Freddie Mercury? Bob Guadio? Stevie Wonder? Norman Whitfield?? O’Sullivan was good but couldn’t hold a candle to the true greats.
Gilbert OSullivans spectacular success with his self titled 2018 album is proof that's there's still hope for the record buying public! Not many stars from the 70s are able to reach the UK Top 20 with a current contemporary released album!

Such lyrical streams of consciousness.. Says something about the poetic nature of Irish songwriters. Who, other than the more contemporary Neil Hannon, would dream of referencing Henry Kissinger and Danny la Rue in the same song? Marvellous stuff.
Elton John and Gilbert OSullivan had a lot in common. They were highly successful artists in the 70s. They were both shy but where Elton thrived on extensive touring and television vision performances, Gilbert were much more reclusive and did what he could to avoid any attention outside his music.
@@davidmortara They sure did. Gilbert OSullivan one a high profile court case against his manager Gordon Mills and won the right to all his originals masters, unheard of at the time. Elton tried to do the same but he was unsuccessful in doing the same. Gilbert also sued Rapper Biz Markie in the early 90s for unlawful sampling of his immortal 1972 charttopper Alone Again Naturally, setting a presedence in the process.
Too light weight for the charts, maybe? Yet, it is a carefully crafted music hall sounding song with clever lyrics and given that special Gilbert OSullivan treatment many of us has come to love and cherish. 1975 would prove to be a difficult year for Gilbert, chart wise but he never failed to deliver insanely catchy singles!
Agreeably, Alone Again Naturally or Clair quality this most certainly aint but it's still better than 99% of other songs released in the crappy music year 2021. An undeserved chart flop for Gilbert in early 1975 although he would bounce back 6 months later with the rocking UK Top 20 hit I Dont Love You But I Think I Like You.
Give Gilbert an applause!...Thats never a good sign, virtually begging the audience to clap! Anyway, Gilbert OSullivan is my all time favourite pop artist and this song is great, despite not hitting the top of the charts.
Another typical clever release, his 14th since 1970. Unfortunately the first not to register in the charts, although according to my source it charted for three weeks, reaching #53. As for it not being an album track, there are 10 other Gilbert singles which did not appear on a studio LP. I was never a fan of Decca singles and had to put up with many a light distortion. Thank god for the CD, although we had to wait until 1988 where it was found on a Japan CD 'Another Side'.. many of you know you can find it as one of seven bonus tracks on the 2012 'A Stranger In My Own Back Yard' Deluxe.. It is believed that Gordon Mills, Gilbert's producer was fond of Gilbert's clever writing, in particular in this song he loved.. "I'm no genius when it comes to world affairs On the other hand when I am with you who cares As you can see , You're my priority"
Are you it made the UK Top 60? I always knew it didn't sell as much as Gilbert's earlier singles but if it DID make the charts it wasnt a total disaster!
@@thomasmarthinussen8978 I would have to find the issue, but I think it was in one of the 'Chartwatch' monthly issued A5 and A4 , they had a piece where they looked at 'bubbling Under'. I also have 'Ill Believe It When I See It' as one week #52.
@@alustyape It would make sense that both singles made the Top 100, at least for a week! After all, Gilbert was still in his prime yet things got progressively harder when the 70s ended.
Gilbert OSullivans four 1975 singles were a mixed bag. Agreeably, I'll Believe It When I See It suffered from not being double tracked and You Are You was maybe too lightweight to make any serious headway. They were both good songs, just like You Never Listen To Reason and the UK Top 20 hit I Don't Love You But I Think I Like You.
Gilbert gives me the biggest smile
Just simply a LEGEND. Never tire of listening to him.
Wow. Still listening to him 50 years later.

Always the first and the best..........
Most successful pop artists hit on hard times and Gilbert OSullivan was no expection, despite consistently great songwriting.
This song has many more melodic and lyrical details than first meet the ear!

Cutest face ever, best voice, writer .... all the things that mean fabulous 😍😍😍

Gilberts singles from 1975/76 were fine concoctions but only one of them became a hit, namely I Dont Love You....from the summer of 75.
Amoooooo❤❤❤❤❤👋👋
1975 would prove to a challenging year for Gilbert, releasing 4 singles yet only one becoming a hit.
A girl can remind me of many things but she's only uniquely her self in the end, is what this fine song seems to say!

A lightweight number. Perhaps a little TOO lightweight and polite to secure a Top 40 position for this undoubtedly charming song.
Deceivingly simple sounding, this is a carefully crafted pop confection from Gilbert and shamelessly ignored by the record buying public in 1975.
Such a charming song and an undeserved chart flop.

He's a bit like Hoagy Carmichael, no? But so talented. Great tunes, arrangements, witty lyrics, a one-off. And this is a good example.

Undeservedly Gilbert's first flop since 1971.
It has nice melody, but the mention of a war criminal "Dr. Kissinger" in the lyrics is putting me off.
