    Caught a 38' Bull Red on the Penn Pursuit Rod and reel Combo. Bought it for 89.99 at Avid angler in st.augustine Fl. Amazing drag and reels easier then butter slap an 80 Ib test braid with a 45 Ilb leader and slay monsters!

  • @rogeriosantos321

    I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

    This is perfect for what I'm looking for: workhorse that's good for kayaking or surf fishing where I or friends new to fishing can use it without feeling terrible banging it around accidentally 😅 ive been making due with some old hand me down poles and reels but pretty sure something rusted out cause it doesn't move at all to distribute the line evenly when reeling in. At some point I'm gonna need a replacement so I'll keep an eye out for these. Thanks for talking through these details and the pros/cons in such a way that even I understood it with the limited knowledge I have currently. 👍

      I have a pursuit 2 for one of my backup setups, I really like it for a backup. If you're looking for a backup, or your only fishing a couple times a month, the pursuit will serve you well...
      Its like a mac truck, not that smooth, but it always works, and does its job... ive fished salt with it, and never taken it apart to clean it, and its NEVER let me down.

  • @bobgill4069

    Fierce 2 has an all metal body and side plate and a "composite" rotor, the Battle 2 has an extra ball bearing compared to the Fierce 2, metal rotor, and HT-100 carbon drag. The new Pursuit 3 has a graphite body and rotor with a metal side plate, the upgrades are the metal handle and the HT-100 carbon drag. I wouldn't say the Pursuit 3 destroys the Fierce 2 but it is a close comparison. Penn is releasing their new Fierce 3 now too.

    $29.99 Shimano Syncopate is a good reel.I've had my 4000 since the late 80's or early 90's (blue/silver color) and it's still bringing in a lot of fish.Everything from 15-20+ lb Carp,Cats, and Striper.
    They also come in 1000 (just recently bought 2)and 2500 sizes and they're all the same $29.99,only difference between my old and the new is the color.New color is a goldish/silver color.

    Penn Pursuit series of reels use graphite bodies. I've used graphite spinning reels all my life and I have never ever had a single problem with graphite composite fishing reels. I have the Pursuit II 3000 reel and I find the bail wire is quite thick and well made. The bail wire is quite heavy duty so you will have to manually flip the bail back after each cast ~ which isn't a big deal since the 3000 is a bigger reel made for light saltwater as well. No anti-reverse switch on the Penn Pursuit series of spinning reels but I never ever use anti-reverse anyway.

      @@SlotCityFishing I really like the Shimano reel from Japan as they are built super solid and last forever! Most reels come out of China at the same factory, which is why all reels look pretty much the same.

      Its not the reel. Did you order it? One thing ive noticed with most spinning reels is you can go test 10 of them and 2 of them will do this. It seems in my experience that reels being shipped tend to do it more. I think it has to do with dust. You wouldn't believe it but dust can get into stuff wear water caint.

    • @jimcatx3090
      @jimcatx3090 5 лет назад

      Daniel Beavers it’s not dust lol the spool shaft could be bent or it’s not shimmed right or the rotor nut is too tight or not centered correctly or the pinion or main gear are not seating there are a few things you can do to get them working right but that’s with experience it’s a 40-50 dollar reel not a 200 dollar one

    just watched your review of the New Pursuit 111, question I have is; I have been looking for a good budget 5000 reel for surf fishing for my 8' medium heavy rod. Do you think this reel will put up with the beating of surf fishing?

    • @SlotCityFishing

      Don't throw it in the sand and avoid try to avoid dunking the reel. It'll be perfectly fine. We used penn fierce IIs for surf fishing and have gotten several seasons out of them and they're still going strong

    Check out Pflueger Summit Xt I bawt 3 Xt25's paired with 3 Okuma Celilo 5'6" Ul 2 pc rods each combo weighs a total of 10.1ozs reel specs 6,7ozs 10bb 10lb drag braid ready Eva Knob sealed drag I wouldn't recommend using this in saltwater there are plenty of other budget friendly options for saltwater. I bawt all 3 combos in 2018 have cawt thousands of fish made hundred of thousands of cast prob millions the gears been 100% problem free now keep in mind for the last decade I've cleaned, inspected, lubed an maintained all my gear myself. Lately I've gotten into the habit of going directly to a store Cabelas/Bass Pro either finding the rod I own there or 1 that weighs Simular to mine go find the proper reel that fits near perfect meaning balances out and feels comfortable in my hands putting on the rod and I'll stand there 30min or so and make sure everything works correctly. I also open up the line I buy to check breaking strength. Why? I've been burned in the past buying a bulk spool of Line and the spool being on the shelf so long with store lights on it the entire spool of line broke with only maybe a pound of force being put on it. Luckily I only lost 10$. If the store ever complains for any reason I'll purchase gear an go outside an check it out there.
