- In this video we visit the town of Strangford in Northern Ireland, with its Norse roots (Strong fjord), home of King Magnus (bare legs) Olaffson. The name of the area is documented as early as c.830 and its Irish Name, Baile Loch Cuan means town on Strangford Lough. Then we take the ferry across the narrows of Strangford Lough to the town of Portaferry, which has a small castle, some nice Georgian buildings and quite a few lovely pubs. This is a nice introduction to County Down and to the Ards Peninsula area.
A lot of work goes into these videos. You can now buy me a pint as a means of appreciation for my work on Naked Ireland, no obligation, obviously - only if you can afford it... I appreciate it. Cheers.

We lived Portaferry for 4 years on and off going to Spain to find the sun in the winter, believe me it was the best place on earth so peaceful and very friendly people.
We miss it everyday and would return again in a heartbeat.
It’s one of Ireland’s best kept secrets.
Beautiful photography. Ancestral stomping grounds for me--Portaferry area.
It a beautiful place to have as your ancestral home Matthew. Thanks for watching.
Loved it on Fri 9 th June 2023

Great video - visit this part of NI many many times and we are never disappointed! I have also covered the ferry crossing on my site! Very enjoyable!👍
Ive been on this ferry many times as a child, so exciting. Beautiful area, gorgeous beaches.
You’re right Tracy, it’s a fabulous part of the world and the ferry journey is lovely. I take it you used to live in the area?
I was born and grew up in Lisburn, every chance we got we headed to the coast. I've been living in London for too long, 28 years. With lockdown after lockdown I need Ireland badly.
It sounds like you deserve a visit back soon Tracy!
I’ll take a look at that!
A favourite route for motorcyclists. Down the peninsula and across on the ferry and on to Newcastle for an ice cream.
...or fish and chips at the seaside! I’ve a film about that too, which happens to have been shot in Newcastle!!
nice video. Love the ferry ride
Ah thanks a lot Brian - appreciate your encouragement!
@@nakedireland thanks. RUclips wont let me reply tor thumbs up the comment you put on my video for some reason. But thanks for commenting
Had to re-upload this video due to an error. It meant I lost all my views, but more importantly, the lovely comments that everyone had left! So, if you had previously visited and liked the video, and you stumble on this video again, feel free to re-like and drop me a comment.
My pleasure
Lovely video but agree the music could been nicer 😊 have been on this ferry so many times brings back lovely memories 💚 Strangford is wonderful but love more Portaferry because I lived there couple of years and miss it and NI a lot ❤️
Glad you enjoyed this Kristina.
Lovely video and area , Id hope to visit one day . But we don't see any inhabitants or pedestrians in Portaferry ?? Were they all hiding .. or did you do an early morning shoot ? R
It’s not a very busy town Richard. But perhaps it was early in the morning or later in the evening, I shot this a while ago so I can’t really remember. Thanks for watching and I hope you’ll find some other Naked Ireland videos that are of interest.
Portaferry ... truly God's Little Acre
Well said Michael.
No mention of the Aquarium?
My plan is to do a whole video on Exploris.
Nice informative video but that music was awful.
Thanks for that. Glad you enjoyed the video, pity the music annoyed you so much.
