Sorry for the long comment, but I’ve had this on my chest for a while! The main issue I have with modern Spongbob IS the constant references to the past. It feels less out of love and more like making references for the sake of doing it. It’s completely tasteless. Worst ones to me I remember off the top of my head is: Name dropping Shell City constantly and treating it as if it were Hollywood when, in the movie that they’re referencing, Shell City is more like the sea equivalent of the Outback. The group of MM and BB’s arch nemeses, trying to get a new recruit and it’s literally just a long shot of all of the major villains in SpongeBob’s past. They just did an ENTIRE Halloween episode where they just visit Nosferatu. A one-off joke character from (surprise) one SpongeBob’s most iconic episodes. Bringing back Patchy and Potty, but mostly as a background gag instead of their full-on segments. The main issues that I have with these references is how out of the way and out of place they can be. In a more recent episode, SpongeBob and Patrick go out to deliver mail for the mailman. One of their customers refuses to take their mail, they break inside his house and… it’s the sea cucumber guy who was the leader of that jellyfishing club. There’s literally no reason why it had to be him other than to make another old reference. They could’ve just brought back the jellyfishing club as a whole and he would’ve been way more relevant to the story. The one-off gag they use him for is completely random and literally could’ve been slapped onto any NEW one-off character and yet they somehow COULD NOT resist to make another useless reference. The point of making references is to give a silent nod to the audience, or as a bit of a reward for sticking with a property for so long, but the references in these recent episodes feel less like a wink and a nudge and more like they’re grabbing me by the shirt and yelling “Hey! Remember X!?” The only thing I really like is Bubble Bass being a main character now, but he’s also a completely different type of nerd, which once again just makes me think why didn’t they just make a new character? You say at least they’re trying new things, but I haven’t seen any episodes as of recently that weren’t obviously riding off of the coattails of old SpongeBob. I honestly believe that SpongeBob did everything it could years ago and, similarly to Fairly Oddparents, should just go. It’s especially annoying to see what SpongeBob is right now, and know that other shows I would rather be watching are getting canceled because they’re not as popular as this self-referencing cash cow that’s been going on for almost 30 years.
@@Trecherousbeast I like your reply and honestly if you stop and look at it you have a great passion for the show I don't see why instead of wanting it to end you can see it in a different light ,they way I am I know and agree completely with everything you said but honestly it's my childhood show I grew up with and every time I put it on for some reason even the new episodes make me giggle and laugh and want to put them on repeat . Also I have to give props because if not I wouldn't have gotten to see personally favorite episodes like my leg which would have never been made if not gotten this far in, or not the movie as a whole but I gotta say I love that even tho is cheesy the Krabby patty formula is you song format he new movie is forever in my heart, scenes like those make me cherish this show as whole even with the many differences as a whole to how the show used to be.
@@godzillasoto agh! Sorry for the text walls again! When I say I want the show to “end”, I’m not saying I want it to disappear from existence, more like I just don’t think they have the motivation to make anything new or interesting, so why not put all the “SpongeBob money” into something that actually needs it? We don’t need new SpongeBob episodes. They literally have about 2 decades of episodes they could rerun and the main child audience would never even realize it. They’re clearly starting to lose money from SpongeBob, which is the reason why I think they keep making these reference specific episodes, so why not just end production, air reruns, and invest in a new show that could become the next cultural cornerstone? It does make me feel a bit sad to see SpongeBob last pretty much forever, and maybe unintentionally be the cause of a lot of great cartoons downfall. I had a lot of nicktoons in my childhood other than just SpongeBob like, My Life as a Teenage Robot, Fairly Oddparents, Jimmy Neutron… and it’s equally sad to hear that even back then a lot of those shows were almost immediately cut short because they weren’t as much of a money making machine as SpongeBob. I like SpongeBob the show, but nowadays I really do think it is hurting cartoons and keeping kids from seeing other good cartoons that might even be airing on the same channel. And that Nickelodeon’s cartoon lineup would seriously benefit from SpongeBob being cut short, because at this point in history it is SERIOUSLY bloated with episodes that are overshadowing other shows. In general when it comes to cartoons I’m totally fine with a show lasting about 3-5 seasons. I can’t remember who I heard it from, but I’ve heard the “life span” of a show explained like this. It’s easy to see 1 season of a show as 10 years of a human being. If a show lasts for 1-2 seasons, it feels like their “life” was cut too short, if a show were to last 5 or even 7 seasons long, that’s a pretty good life! It perfectly explains why hearing that something like The Simpsons is in its 32 season makes me cringe a little. (if it were a person, they’d be 320 years old!) I feel like SpongeBob as a show is overstaying its welcome a bit at over 20 seasons. Most artists can’t focus on 1 project for 10 years let alone 20 and Stephen Hillenburg left at around 3! It’s getting to the point where there’s a rotating door of artists that are just coming in to work on SpongeBob and to me it feels more like an assembly line than the art project it started out as. At least when Looney Tunes puts a new spin on things, they call it a new show, so that you can at least separate it from the rest of the shows. SpongeBob still has to call itself SpongeBob, regardless of what it’s doing, purely for the sake of branding and I just hate that. I just find it so conceited that after years of Nickelodeon, somewhat, creating a culture of crossover cartoon events, they FINALLY make one for SpongeBob and he’s crossing over with… himself. After growing up watching the Jimmy Timmy Power Hour, or even that event on Disney Channel when Lilo and Stitch crossed over with some of the popular cartoons of their channel, it just feels (maybe unintentionally) stuck up, like they really didn’t think that ANY of their cartoons was good enough to do this with SpongeBob for at least 2 decades, until they “suddenly” decided to make a few spin-offs. It makes me so uncomfortable because it feels like they don’t really see SpongeBob as a piece of art, created by Stephen Hillenburg, that’s worthy of some ounce of respect. I don’t really know if they’re doing it on purpose, but what kills my enjoyment of current SpongeBob is that it really does feel like their USING it. I don’t feel an ounce of love whenever they make a reference, because if there was, they probably would’ve done it 10 years ago. I want them to stop making new episodes, because I really do feel like they’re just making them because they need to make money.
@@Trecherousbeast love the passion honestly making me read a lot which I don't usually do but you got em hooked and yeah you have a good point , I feel that yes the way the show is going right now it definitely is gonna crash and burn but SpongeBob is such a big show that I feel it needs to go out with a bang something they haven't achieved yet since they decided to keep going after the true ending which is the first movie, everything after the movie is a prequel , the show and the tower movies are just a prequel to the original movie which hillenburg admitted to being the true SpongeBob ending which made sense. But since they decided to keep going which in the new seasons you can see there getting closer to the movie timeline since patrick and SpongeBob have been seen a goofy goobers in the show recently but yeah i would have done a final season with a episodic storyline something to connect to the movie and end it there but yeah now there just expanding , I'll tell you one thing , the Patrick show is horrible , and camp koral was cute but bad, sponge out of water to me felt like most of the writers where probably high and I hate to say that sponge on the run is my favorite of the movies.😭🤣✌️. @@bizzaroblake2519Ah that makes sense, I wonder if he even could wet the reed underwater lol

My mom didn’t let me watch Spongebob as a kid and I wonder if it’s because she walked in on one of these episodes
Your mom’s a cow for not letting you watch SpongeBob!
17:41 I love how Patrick had to clarify that it looks good only on SpongeBob and not doodlebob
3:07 AS SOON AS I SAW THE NAME CHILDHOOD TRAUMA KICKED IN
i was trying to watch spongebob rap videos and clicked on this on accident... not disapointed
Lol
10:04 this could've gone terribly if the bus system was consistent
That was disgusting. They turn into burger monsters then bubble bad goes up to mr crabs takes a pickle out of him and eats it
Your reactions made some of the episodes look a lot better
Okay but now that you've watched notoriously BAD modern Spongebob episodes, you should do GOOD modern Spongebob episodes! They got a lot of the early season staff back at some point, so they have some good episodes too
Yes, my wish came true! Thanks to you guys and other viewers of yours who suggested and donated to you on Patreon!
3:06 gave me Vietnam flashbacks once I saw the episode title
Y'ALL SERIOUSLY MADE HAVE TO SUFFER THRU THAT SPLINTER SCENE AGAIN 😭😭
Oh, be careful boys. Paramount could strike this video. they hate it when someone uploads SpongeBob content on RUclips.
It's been a month and it didn't get deleted lol.
I remember getting a nasty splinter like it was do embedded in my finger mum had to use a needle to fish it out, the whole time I was thinking of that splinter episode from SpongeBob, I was terrified the splinter was never gonna come out since it took my mum over an hour to get it out
Hillenburgh wanted the show to end, but Nickelodeon couldn't have enough of that money
No fucking way. I'm currently on my spongebob hyperfixation train and suddenly you guys post this.
soongebob gross out humor will forever play a part in my ptsd at least somewhat
It's probably just for the cartoon but crabs and lobsters have very strong claws. They can cut your finger off bone and all without breaking a sweat. One chop. That's why you gotta be careful.
I was scared the squidward toenail scene was gonna pop up, I would not have been able to watch that again
Bubble Bass in newer SpongeBob is essentially Comic Book Guy on The Simpsons: exists mainly to complain about the plot and characters.
Oof
It might be the weed talking...
But why doesn't spongebob remove his arm?
It'll grow back.

12:09 i wish they said 14 because the episode Krusty Love (where mr krabs tries to ask mrs puff on a date) aired in 2002, while this episode came out in 2016
If Paramount Media takes this video down, it's canon.
One theory about why Mr. Crabs has a whale for a daughter is that he was a whale hunter, Moby D¡ck style, and killed Pearl's mother, afterwards he found he had orphaned her and adopted her out of guilt.
9:13 Speaking of which, This Episode became a SpongeBob Creepypasta
I’d watch House Fancy a million times before I watch Wormy again.
What the fuck??? Why???
Phobias work in weird and stupid ways
Oh so your horsefly phobia is extremely strong?
Next time they gotta watch Squid's visit and Spongehenge actually the most fucked up and strange episodes in the show imo.
jfc I deleted all these episodes from my mind and now I'm experiencing them again for the first time in years as a fully grown adult. RIP Steven Hillenburg
When they talk about the most cursed episodes of Spongebob but your favorite show as a kid was The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack :/

the whirly brains episode is actually brainrot bro 😂, one of the first spongebob episodes i watched that i actually couldnt get through 😂

Nickelodeon should be sued for some of the graphic animations they included in the show. For those who watched you guys will remember just how far they went it was bad.
I literally had to not look at the clips showcasing Creature Feature since that episode scared me when I was younger
21:33 HIS NOSE HIS NOSE HIS NOSE HIS NOSE HIS NOSE
It’s so detailed and shaped oddly
I like SpongeBob and I don't understand why all the hate cause this is seriously one show that has no beef in social media so like let it go ,SpongeBob really ain't that bad not even the newer seasons , it's actually a show that has given there secondary characters like the my leg fish there very own episodes, this is a show that cares about the community and yes sometimes messes up trying to please everyone at once but it's a great show and really no need to hate on it. Bubble bass is back and it makes so much sense too if you think about it bubble bass was originally presented as someone who had already messed with spongeBob before, they trying no things and there is no shame on that, at least its not as bad as that stupid dog they added in the fairly odd parents.
Sorry for the long comment, but I’ve had this on my chest for a while!
The main issue I have with modern Spongbob IS the constant references to the past. It feels less out of love and more like making references for the sake of doing it. It’s completely tasteless.
Worst ones to me I remember off the top of my head is:
Name dropping Shell City constantly and treating it as if it were Hollywood when, in the movie that they’re referencing, Shell City is more like the sea equivalent of the Outback.
Remember X!?”
The only thing I really like is Bubble Bass being a main character now, but he’s also a completely different type of nerd, which once again just makes me think why didn’t they just make a new character?
(if it were a person, they’d be 320 years old!)
I feel like SpongeBob as a show is overstaying its welcome a bit at over 20 seasons.
Also jus ton sidenote saw you mentioned life as a teenage robot and I got to say I adore that show , I just finished watching star vs the forces of evil and I got to say if you like Jenny as a character you'll love Star they are very alike except Star can be a little extra. There are a bunch of obscure amazing cartoons out there overshadowed from popular mainstream shows like SpongeBob and Simpsons so I'll agree with you on that also . And one more thing you gonna hate I did like that live action try Nickelodeon did earlier this year with the Fairly odd parents. I just think they had there star character but the put her as a secondary character and they messed it up .
@@godzillasoto aint reading all that and i still hate the new seasons
