No problem, dude. I like to do reviews on lesser talked about gear for just this reason. I like making detailed videos about gear that the rest of RUclips seems to ignore.
That all depends on what you like. I personally wasn't a big fan of the finish on the JP100,which is why I got the JP60. From what I understand, they have slightly different necks too. You can't really go wrong with either one.
First of all thank you for the review, question you installed the DiMarzio Crunch Lab and Liquifire pickups on it, but what kinda? there are too many check it out :
Thank you very much sir. My JP60 just arrived from pro audio land and I love it to death. However I dont know what to do with it as im still a beginner. :) Is there any chance that I could get the tabs to what you played? I really like that kind of tunes. Do I have any way of contacting you? Are you on a blog or something?
I actually just purchased a sterling JP model and was wondering if you had the Dimarzio F-spaced version of the pickups in your guitar or the regular version? Thanks!
That all depends on what your tastes in tone are. Duncan Distortions are crazy brutal but don't have that much in the way of touch-sensitive dynamics like CrunchLab's do. What I liked about the CrunchLab was how smooth/not-gritty the trebble was and how it's super tight with drop tunings. The DD is really gritty, not really my thing. I've been told that pickups like the DD may not be well suited for basswood, but who knows...but the CL/LF set is perfect for metal in a sophisticated kind of way.
JP100 3TS or JP60PRB? (three tone sunburst)(pearl red burst) Are these guitars exactly the same? What is the difference between the 60 and 100? Is there a difference in sounds? Does one have more sustain/richer sound than the other? Are the necks exactly the same?
The distorted tone was indeed from the Voodu Valve. I actually wasn't using a power amp, but instead plugged the preamp straight into the cab. The VV has just enough juice in the output section to drive a cab at bedroom levels.
Hi, is there a reason for using f spaced in the bridge and normal in the neck? Cos the JP60 has 43mm nut which suggests to install f spaced in both positions because even I'm planning for same pickups, I have both LF and CL in F spaced configuration lying around, will it make a difference?
It won't make that much of a difference, the pole pieces will be slightly off with the neck pickup. I don't know what the reason for different sizes is
Thank you for the reply Aaron, even I had the same doubt having the pickups in 2 configurations. I have this Cort guitar with Floyd rose tremolo to which I have installed the CL and LF. The moment I get the JP60 I'll change the pickups
I was a little worried at first, played a bunch if other guitars, came back to thus and realized its solid in intonation and neck quality. I will buy another with upgraded pickups I think.
Yeah, it was a great guitar. Sounded great and played great. Only sold it because stylistically it wasn't for me. My main guitar is a PRS S2 custom 24 and I love it.
@@MesaMXR I do like the basic aspects of the Sterling JP60 style, and in matte black its about as noticeable as air, never touched a PRS in my life, but I am confident they would blow me away in feel, yet have had an aversion to the overall sound of PRS, and the looks of them, probably no surprise since I still have the JP60 and you sold yours, excellent video man, I enjoyed it equally a year later😀
Hi, I know that this video is 10 years old but I'm curious how much the guitar cost you 10 years ago and compare it at what they currently sell to see if it is still worth despite the increased cost, and the other new sterling models , thanks
@@MesaMXR there are some new ones on reverb and other stores but the least model the jp150dfm is fantastic, the problem is that i fall in love with the mystik dream color and is the only sterling jp model with that color. Thanks for answer ♥️
Sterling jp150d the new model built in 2021 is really awesome. but mysticdream is kind of cant explain man the color so love it ill pick this mystic dream.
I have a B.C. Rich with a floyd rose which I find is a pain to deal with and was looking at getting another guitar with a different tremolo system. Is the tremolo on the JP60 easier to deal with (or at least not as much of a pain as a FR)?
Hey bro, I got the same axe and I am not dissapointed at all...really nice guitar Id like to know if those dimarzios are f-spaced, as is not a tremolo, cheers buddy.
well thank you very much for the reference, its impossible to find anything on these guitars for some reason, im thinking when/if i get this guitar, ill be getting the Crunclab and leaving the stock neck pup, one because i not big on soloing/crazy neck pup use, and two, like you said the stock sound similar so i think ill save myself money and just do that haha
How do you compare the standard pickups to the dimarzio's? Also are the standard pickups any good for a metal tone? How are the cleans? And one last thing is the neck profile the same as the musicman jp6? Thanks
Just one question I'd like a deinitive, agreed upon answer, what pickups does the JP60 take. It is my understanding F-spaced in the bridge but NORMAL SPACING ONLY in neck, is this correct for buying new Dimarzios to swap in?
Thanks bud, I just put a Tone Zone in bridge (used to always love that middy pickup) but it just doesn't sound right (Having Peavey 6505+ MH and NOT Mesa Mark V is first problem),...I guess I'll go the usual Petucci way w Crunch/liquifire...never go wrong as you know (I've tried D sonic in past and didnt like in my old MM Petrucci, however haven't tried new Illuminators yet).
I meant like there are others types of pickups look it up at amazom.com then you will find DiMarzio John Petrucci Guitar Pickup Set DP227BK Liquifire DP228FBK Crunch Lab, are those your pickups?
Hi there, would anybody be able to direct me to a site where I can download the installation procedures to get the same picks here the DiMarzio Crunch Lab and Liquifire pickups installed in my JP60 by Sterling? Thanks in advance
I don't think there are any installation instructions for this guitar. Installing pickups in this thing is the same as any other guitar. Take out the old ones, drop in the new ones, and soldier them to the correct potentiometer terminals. There's a trillion videos online of how to do this.
MesaMXR Thanks for the reply. There are trillion of videos online for sure but I thought maybe there is a specific way to install these. I have never done this before so I am a rookie when it comes to installing pickups....
great video!!please tell me about this guitar, is it a good guitar comparing to 700 and 800 dollars ibanez and ltd? how is the finish, the fret job, and the wood quality, is this guitar buildt to last ? im thinking of buying it because i heard that its better than ibanez premium series , so i hope you can help me and to get more clear ideas, thank you sir
Build quality was really good. I don't remember there being any problems with the finish or anything. The guitar was very responsive and precise sounding thanks to the maple neck and basswood body. Locking tuners certainly make a difference. I'd probably prefer it over an LTD or Ibanez. The guitar was really worth the money and wouldn't be above buying another Sterling brand guitar. When I get around to buying a bass, it will probably be a Sterling. I didn't have the guitar long, but it certainly had a lot of clarity and probably my favorite neck out of the 10+ guitars I've owned. Buy it.
@themodernguitarist I don't hate it at all. It truly is a great guitar that plays and sounds great, but I have too many guitars and aesthetically it's a bit plain.

I think it might have cost like 700 bucks back then. It was a good guitar. If price is a concern, maybe look at some used ones?

Refinish it? Get a Vai-esque swirl on it. =P
thx!!
and waht about the orignal string gauge?when you receive JP60

@O00Coolzero00O If you measure the distance between the bridge pickup's high E and low E pole pieces, the distance is greater than the neck pickup's.
did you send it back

Hi there, did you use the same volume and tone pots?
Yeah, i used the stock ones.
@@MesaMXR thank you so much for the informatiom
I wont ask you what that riff was because I know it was Insomnia by Periphery!
Do you still have it ?
That's a riff from a song called Naive with my "band" So-Called Notion. I'm releasing a demo rather soon and that song will be on it.

why did u want to send it back?

thanks for the offer, but im only paying for about 1/2 of it and my parents are paying the rest.
why you send back petruccis? message me we talk business

id buy it :p
Yeah, pretty much.
