This gave me alot of room to grow with my internet and media needs. I love the app which was a big selling point and being able to easily update the router. I love that it has a 2.5Gbps Ethernet port. I currently have Spectrum gigabit but its Cable internet but in about 5 months when I move I will be switching to Google Fiber 2.5Gb package.

Its a big beast for what it does, a user is going to need a lot of space to site it.

Are there any nodes I can use to extend this? My idea is I will run an ethernet through a wall and connect a node to it. I currently have this router. I don't know if its the thickness of my walls or my metal roof or whatever but for whatever reason, I cannot get a router that will reach to all parts of my house 1600sf with a consistent download speed. (Consistent as in, it will reach and download when surfing web, but when streaming Netflix or doing a zoom call, it blurs the picture off and on) I have tried several different routers/mesh systems and thought this router will be then answer...unfortunately, I'm calling it an issue I will just have to live with...

Can I replace the cable company router with this? Im not a gamer but I have a home recording studio and my wife works from home. Will this do the same as the Cable co. router but better? Will my internet run better with this without the dropouts I get with Optimum?

    • @Placesandspaces35

Yes you can. I would recommend getting your own modem and router. Cable company gives you routers that have been used by others etc. See if your provider has a 3rd party modems that are compatible with their service then get a router. No need to pay monthly for equipment for substandard equipment. If you get this router download the Merlin Firmware for it. His firmware is hands down better than the ASUS stock firmware.

@@Placesandspaces35 Thanks this helps a lot. I will do this.

@@musicbill One more suggestion. If you get this router i would recommend getting a modem that has a 2.5 gig port. I know Arris and Netgear have models that have this. That way if your isp offers speeds over 1 gig your modem and router can support it. My isp goes up to 1200 mbps down. With my modem and router (both having 2.5 gig ports) my download speed is typically around 1400 mbps down. Without the 2.5 gig ports the max i would be able to go is 1000 mbps. Good way to future proof your network.

Should you put the router high or keep it low for best performance

question. I have an ROG Rapture GT-AXE16000 & 2 ROG Rapture GT6s. I have a large area to cover. I was told by ASUS Tech support before I bought them that they will work together. Well I was given the AXE16000 but I bought the 2 GT6s for the extended space. I told them I planned on using the AXE16000 as my main router and the 2 ROG GT6s as 2 nodes or what ever you want to call them. They told me they will work. Today when I called tech support they told me you cannot use them this way. Both devices under their specs say AiMesh capable.
Are you familiar with these? If so do you know if they will work like I am hoping they will? If they do where do you recommend I go for quality support to get help setting them up. ASUS customer tech support is terrible. I read my serial number to the guy 10 times and I swear they were just not listening.
Also for your info. I plan to have my AXE16000 connected to my ISP modem. My ISP does not have a built in router/wifi. So I will not need to put anything on their equipment in bridge mode. So the AXE16000 will be my router and I will have the 2 GT6s spread out far away on other side of building. My AXE16000 is next to and connected to a 16 port gigabit switch. I have Ethernet ran in the walls all the way out to where both GT6s are located. So the internet will be supplied from my AXE16000 through Cat6 to my GT6s so they will not be receiving WiFi signal from AXE16000 to the GT6s but instead they will be directly connected via Ethernet.
I am hoping I can have the 2 GT6s receive wired internet and then broadcast WiFi from there to devices on that side of building.
Will this work and how do I go about doing this?
Thanks for your help in advance.

If you are spending over 350-550 on a router they should be able to cover up to 3000sqft with no problem. If buying one of the AX routers then buying another for 150-250 that's over 600 plus at this point it would be much better to purchase Eero pro 6 or 6e or orbi that covers up to 6000sqft and for the same if not less money.

Don't understand why these are popular. Surely it depends mostly on the Internet you are getting into your home matters the most 🤔. Ours is trash but how can this make a difference to the connection.

believe me a lot, starting with the fact Asus router is less likely to have cpu congestions, can manage way more devices more eficiently connected to your home, with wifi 6, your devices will have more battery time, automatically improves anything you do on a LAN (transfer big files between computers, remote control of computers or whatever is on this LAN department) , exapnd the coverage area form your ISP router, with better mgmt of channel congestion, of course at the end the bottleneck access to the internet is what you get from your ISP, but overall performance of your local network is improved by a great margin.

I repeat do not buy this router. I returned my first unit and I got a replacement and I am now returning the replacement tomorrow. There are connectivity issues and the AImesh sucks.
