A real carpenter would not have constructed something that leaves a random 2x4 sticking out 8" from what appears to be a wood fence.
This guy's videos are purely show and tell. He repeats the same cuts, using some random bricks stacked in the corners, a 4" pipe or (of all things) a frickin' garden hose coming out of the middle of the floor. In the real world this happens pretty much never.
I was about to say the same thing about the cut . leaves out half the story.

@@driveman6490 I use these type of tricks tiling all the time picture that house being a stream pipe install on a shower wall or the bricks being a decorative old piece of trim that will cause more effort to replace then a customer is willing to pay
edit: even the random 2x could be a sill of some in a shower niche and the angles are a herringbone pattern
#2: won’t work as shown. 2 by material is resting on ground for 45 cut so after notch cut 45s won’t align but will instead spread near notch cut. You missed the part where you have to cut the opposite ends to account for the loss in height from the notch cut.
why not prop up the bottom part so it is raised to compensate?

No it won't unless you change the angle. We are assuming the same knotch on bottom.
Yes I've now seen this same point argued 5 times... if the bottom end of the board is fixed (maybe resting on a ledge or smthn) than the ppl saying the angle will change due to the 2 inch horizontal notch being removed are correct HOWEVER, if the boards are free floating, and permitted to drop the height of notch, the angle will remain the same. Depends on application.
The other end of Roof rafters need to sit onto a top plate. So calculation’s are necessary. You can’t just use this method for actual rafters.

С досками не получится так, как на видео. Или низ подрезать дополнительно надо или будут щели.

@@алексейшпрыгов Геометрию видно тебе учить надо. На страпилину 5 - 6 м. Эта погрешность не значительная, а вот запели так же длиной 05 м. И все сам увидишь.
Дмитрий прав,чтобы так получилось надо при разметке низ стропила поднять на глубину запила.

При первом способе низ нужно корректировать, иначе отпиленный угол будет не под тем градусом, с щелями

You are cutting ‘bird mouths’… a standard cut for roofing rafters; glad you are showing them to the non-carpenters, their Sheds will thank you!
That's for people that can't figure rise per foot of run and use a framing square to get the correct pitch on rafters .

1, 2 - не показано, что с противоположной стороны стропила приподняты при разметке.
3 - центр будет на пересечении диагоналей только если труба строго в углу (касается обоих стен угла), что бывает крайне редко.

Yes man, try marking a birds mouth that way, whilst holding a 4;8m length of 6x2, 20 or 30ft up in the air! Easy to do it on a scrap bit of 6x1 floorboard. A competent carpenter can and does calculate both rafter length and cut angles, without offering timbers up, and cuts his rafters on the ground!
А вот теперь покажи как ты сделаешь то же самое со стропилами на высоте, хотя бы 2.5 метра
На высоте 5 метров - это гораздо интереснее со страпилиной 6 метровой.
Зарезав стропила на 1/3 их сечения, вы ослабили в этом месте их несущую способность (прочность) на 30%
Меня тоже это всегда настораживает такой запил, есть же другие виды данного элемента

Что то со стропилами трюк вообще, ты их с другого конца подрезаешь? как это у них угол врезки не меняется, если они целые под другим углом лежали нежели врезанные.. атата, фокусник, для кого вообще эти видео!?
В первом случае он пытался лобзиком сделать точный рез, идя вдоль направляющей, что уже само по себе смешно.

You’ve just changed the angle of the rafter unless both ends get a seat cut that is equal
You need to show that the boards should be lifted up directly that 1-1/2” when marking so the angle doesn’t change after you cut it out. That’s a huge deal. I guess you don’t want to give away trade secrets though! Haha.
I'm the first example how can you install a ridge sideways isn't the support and strength best when it stands vertically?

Now I'm not a joiner, but i do understand geometry. Without any rigorous mathematical proof, it seems like the change in angle would cause these to be imperfect cuts. It seems like drawing around the end of the beam at the appropriate angle would give the correct shape (and not the same as what we see here). Can someone explain how these cuts work?
The cuts are created as if the beam were 2 inches higher

Both the first 2 worked bc his ruler was same thickness as protrusion. Probably should have mentioned that.
... and the third he didn't actually cut exactly what was shown : /
The circle had to be cut straight back off perimeter towards corner to allow the piece to slide by.
....I wouldn't bother btchn if the info wasn't misleading.

Everything has to be perfectly square for all these methods to work. Everything shown on here is missing at least one step if not more

The rafter cutting method has disaster written all over it. Just learn a little maths (trigonometry) and it’s not that difficult to work this stuff out especially if the rafters are all identical.

You have made the board weaker at the top. The “effective” depth is now reduced to the width after your cut. Which is fine if that is what you want.
I dont get it if u cut the birds mouth the cut the top there will be a discrepency
