As a young African born and raised in Africa (Ghanaian), I can relate with this man about how he's put in the work. I kinda feel like Mexicans share this deep-rootedness in family.
Hispanic culture in general feels that way, when I was growing up, my family got together for parties at each others homes, we would get sizable houses with the expectation that our family will be able to come over for get together.
Agreed. That was really refreshing. Sometimes people talk about the potential to start a business as if it's as routine as making a trip to McDonald's...it's not.
I like how you try to show the REAL side of small businesses not like the traditional 80's pitch:; "you can do it, do not follow the norm, you can earn 1 million in a year". Rob is still struggling like with debt and his family life, the hard work and the struggle is real, as so is his happiness and fullfilment. KEEP IT REAL PBS!, we need real stories, not "heroes", "iron mans" but people like u and me who want to make their voices heard
As a Nigerian is really hard to work and get paid by government or private jobs, this is really inspiring for me and I really want to relate to this someday.thank two cents
Great for him! Did he research and picked locations wisely. Lots of hard work to build his empire. It's also great this video doesn't just look at the dollars-side of work. Personal relationships matter tons. Babies are only babies once in their lives - don't miss too much, man!
Wow, this is amazing! I am a participant in Robert's online programs so I have spent a great deal of time with him. Not only was that time well spent but it's also kinda cool to be somewhat connected to this shooting star! Good choice PBS to feature Robert, his sincerity and just being a genuinely kind person shines through.
My first reaction is “This kind of hyper investment into housing. Creating homes that will sit empty most of the time, while is increasing the price of housing for everyone else.” I don’t know if that is an accurate, I have a hard time seeing business model without thinking this as extracts money from communities who live in LA, Tennessee, etc. Why not build these homes for those who already live there and need it and not the tourist. Yet! I like the dynamic on the personal level though. Moving away from the job as the identity; The job as source purpose/creativity or being a part of the “team,” and toward being a member of a your family and having obligation to them as they provide more creativity and purpose to you then a job will.
You said it better than i was going to. This is yet another example of destroying all kinds of eco systems for the sake of profit generation. There is no net benefit to the human species becoming more connected with sustainability when people like this guy are running around making playhouses for people with disposable income when there are people that are barely surviving right next door.
@@Andre-qo5ek These houses are cheaper than hotel rooms from motel6 in most small cities.. i don't think you see the full picture of who rents airbnb. Short term rentals are used by lots of small business owners who travel.
I wondered the same, like "would it not be the moral answer to provide affordable housing?" I guess we are limited as individuals to solve a huge issue like housing, then i thought; "he needs this income, while bigger fish might afford to rent houses to poor families at a loss" the problem is not easy. The rich should not be the only ones concerned about moral choices, everyone should. I like to think that Rob can make a exception for a poor family wanting a vacation, despite him not being able to take a loss
@@Derty_the_grower i would love to see the statistics and demographics if you have them. i also do not see how "small business owners who travel" changes the resource extraction hosting AirB&Bs cause in these places. What i do see is how hotels are now unused and not being repurposed for permanent housing when people go to AirB&Bs. i also see the impact of housing costs increases around AirB&Bs. Pricing people out. short term profits for long term damage to communities.
Do you have qualms with the hotel industry renting out their rooms by the night instead of at a monthly rate for low income housing? Because this is essentially no different than that. Your bias that Airbnb’s are only for rich, privileged folks is also highly inaccurate - hop on the app and you’ll see plenty of properties listed for less than $40/night.

Smart man. There is requirements for life, and a lot of people profit off luxury and materialistic sales of things that are not requirements for life. Sounds like he did the right move, in my experience opinion living across this nation from coast to coast to coast.
I'm on the same train, this country is great! but being an employee 8-5 simply sucks it shouldn't be anyone's goal.. And don't get me started on Tax brackets! situation.. :-D
It's nice if you have the skills to just up and leave your career ☺️ and doing pretty good to afford 4k a month just in a mortgage if I might add. That's so far from what I'm able to afford even when I was was working and getting 56+ hours.

You make it sound like you coerced your wife into this without enthusiastic consent and discussion. Thanks not quirky and fun, that's messed up if its true.
I don’t know how you can possibly get that perception from what he said in the video. He did not imply coercion- he implied that his wife went out on a limb for him, as a supportive partner.
@@Jimmy33561 The first minute of the video?! "That wasn't an easy pitch but she's always been very supportive of me and she understands that when I am set on something it is impossible to get me off that dream."
@@slyfox0086 as I just said, there was nothing in the comment he made which implied coercion. “It wasn’t an easy pitch” = she was skeptical but supportive. The wife's less than enthusiastic "it'd be great if while he was standing here he could help me with the 5 things I'm doing" definitely stood out, and the two comments together are a mood.
