  • Harris Live Sound #11 is the final film in the Harris Collection. I’ve been working on this project since September 2015. I want to thank all my subscribers and viewers and all the great comments. I particularly appreciate those who have corrected me or added facts that I was not aware of. It has kept me on my toes and have made this archive of the Harris films more accurate. Also thanks to the Union Station Museum officials past and present who have facilitated this project by obtaining funds for the digitizing of the films and allowing me to work at home on the behalf of the museum. Harris ends with his two favorite subjects, the Rio Grande Zephyr and the Heber Creeper.

Along with many other people I'm sure, I thank you so much for accepting and completing the task of preserving Stephen Harris's imagery for the current and future generations! I live in the UK and seeing these videos as you've released them has been a great pleasure and I'm not quite sure what I'll do without the regular 'fix'.
Taking so many films over a 10 to 15 year period must have been a labor of love for Stephen Harris but I suspect nothing compared with yours so Thank You Mr Witten.
Just one thing that amused me...
During the silent films I thought your dubbing was excellent and really gave the films a proper atmosphere so thank you for that too.
The sound film with #8444 and #3985 amused me because when they were being filmed by the helicopter that was drowning them out, I actually thought 'That really is live sound!' as up to then I hadn't felt that the 'live' version differed from your Dubs! (untrained English ear, I guess)
    Thank you again!

Martin, I can't thank you enough for your kind words. I'm so pleased that these films have reached far and wide. Railroads originated in England and transformed the world. These films of Harris recorded a small snapshot of the American west in the decade of the 70's and early 80's. You caught the sound of the helicopter chasing the big steam engines. That was a common occurence whenever they were out on the rails. I chuckled at that scene as well. Thanks again for taking the time to write. By the way, I thoroughly enjoyed scenes of the Jubilee. RUclips provided a number of hours of the pageantry. I was 10 years old watching Her Majesty's coronation on a family friend's tv with my parents. It has always stuck in my mind as one of those unforgettable moments.

Wow...this is it huh? I or mostly we reached the end. This whole film series including the one from Jarvis has left a great influence on me in a way, especially when I discovered you Mr. Witten and how much of a good friend you’ve been.
I really don’t know how to word any of this, because I’m mostly happy and sad that these are all finished and that I viewed every one of them! It was truly a memorable experience.

@LeeWitten You upload at your own time mister, take your time and enjoy what you do is what I say. Yes, I also wish there were more of those films to digitalize. But I know, that nothing lasts forever and we must move to other ventures. Although, it is lovely to see many other users upload their own footage from like the 80s and 90s.

@@AlikStansberry What is wonderful is how much there is on RUclips to keep one busy watching for years to come. I love videos that are made from the Cab looking forward. So many are made in Europe or England

Real unfortunate this series I have been watching for years has ended. I'm assuming this was Harris' last before he passed? At least it ended on a good note. I do like in particular the Heber Creeper section featuring 2 native California pieces of equipment, the SP 1744 and a SN or WP wooden caboose. Thanks for posting.

I'm glad you've enjoyed the series. I hated to see it end myself. Wish he could have loved longer.
