I thunk the main reason Chrysalis just laughs at the power of love is because it's just food to her. Just food. To you it would be more like being threatened with a hamburger.
Except that feeding on love makes her more powerful. Not only is it food, it's also a power boost. Recall the line "Consuming Shining Armor's love has made me even more powerful than Celestia!" after she defeats Celestia.
Ytero99 Also remember the next Episode, Season 3 episode 1 and 2. Cadance is losing power and sleep, yet they can't do the same thing they did in this episode... It's literitly a Deus ex Machina that is never seen again, even when a situation comes up that should have used it.
***** Cadance is talented at casting love magic. I don't think Shining Armor can use his love to combine power with Cadance the way she did with him. In A Canterlot Wedding, Cadance wasn't drained of her magic. In The Crystal Empire, she was. And I think the only reason that her love magic shielded the Crystal Empire is because the very foundation of the Crystal Empire's defense is positive feelings.
What drove me nuts is how quickly everyone turned on Twilight. Based on what we were told, Twilight was close her brother and was not possessive. When she was told he was marrying Cadence, she was excited. She showed no signs of possessiveness toward her brother and she was upset because she felt forgotten or pushed aside. Then, after she was revealed to be right, nobody apologized to her. Her brother didn't even say sorry for choosing his mind control master over his close friend and sister. Not even Celestia shows regret for taking the side of the bad guy and putting Twilight down. Did her friends even feel bad for picking some stranger bride over their friend? It would have looked so much better if Twilight had showed some sign of possessiveness or something. Just a small scene. Saying "we're so close" doesn't mean she won't give her brother up. Put in a tiny scene of Twilight disapproving the marriage just out of pettiness! That way, everyone seems less like an asshole.
+KanaHyoshi Exactly. All that Rainbow Dash had to do was practice her Sonic Rainboom, so she's been around imposter Princess Cadence the least and should at least take Twilight Sparkle's word for it. But Applejack must be in some serious denial if she thinks Twilight is being possessive of Shining Armor and Princess Cadence cares more about him instead of vice versa and also thinks that one little sorry can make up for all 5 of them ruining their friendship with her. September 7, 2016, 5:44pm
+Carl Bloke True, but if Mr. Enter didn't stand for this kind of character derailment in Everyone Knows It's Bendy or Rainbow Falls, then why should he stand for it here? The ending of the first part makes it seem like they were only pretending to feel for Twilight's relationship with her brother. Besides, it's not just them, there was also some bad implications of Shining Armor and Princess Luna being bad siblings to Twilight Sparkle and Princess Celestia because Shining Armor didn't want Twilight to do something with him again until the wedding and Luna never came to save Celestia when she got captured and missed the whole Changeling invasion that she was watching for earlier. November 19, 2016, 10:47am
"Why wasn't Shining Armor at his own sister's birthday in Cantalot?" Well, wasn't the original place going to be Ponyville and she changed it to Cantalot on the spot? Also, since he is captain of the royal guards, it will be hard for him to take a break just for his sister's birthday, right?
***** Actually, the reason why he wasn't there is because the writers wanted to do a wedding episode, so they made up two random characters on the spot and made one of them Twilight's sibling to give the Mane Six a reason to go.
Honestly I can buy why we haven't seen any of Shining Armor until now because... HE'S A GUARD! Why hasn't he been mentioned before now? Likely because the two don't see each other often and they live in separate cities and likely different schedules . Why didn't he appear in the Flashback of how Twilight became Celestia's student? Likely was in training as I'm sure he was only a teenager back then (given the flashback and all) and had to get military training. Why wasn't he at Twi's party? Let me ask this: why wasn't Twi's PARENTS invited? Or even the princesses? It WAS last minute to bring the party to Canterlot after all. Why didn't he stop Discord? Tell me, how could a few guards fare against a lord of Chaos when the only thing that can beat him are the elements? It's like sending cops against Loki, it's not gonna work out. Check and mate XD
But man that Aria song... It is actually amazing despite that fact that it is a villain song. As crazy as it sounds i think it is that good because it fits so well with the happiness the queen got from the temporary victory. Regardless of being good or bad all characters want to achieve to satisfy their own form of happiness and that song portrayed it perfectly. Also it showed that it can be sang as both happy and sad at the same time. MAGIC!
Something that is never mentioned: do they really think Twilight, a pony whose life's purpose is magic, who throws herself into studies and who is one of the strongest unicorns out there, couldn't tell a simple migraine cure spell from a mind control spell?! Seriously? Or geez, even that Cadence's aura changed. That seems like it would be a big deal.
2:55 - I like this 2 parter but I feel "Cadence" really being evil puts a damper on the first part's moral that sometimes, personal objections can get excessive and that can lead to damaging your relationships with other people. I think it would have been better if it had been the real Cadence stressed about the wedding up until a certain point, instead of it just being Chrysalis the entire time.
I'm personality pissed off at the rest of the mane six because if I was a member of the group I'd actually look into twilight accusation because I would have believe in a the person I knew for months over the one I just met a week ago
To be fair, Twilight was acting kinda possessive. Also they didn't get e what "Cadence" (aka Chrysalis) did to Shining Armor. And after what Twilight send "Cadence" crying out of the alter, I can understand them being upset.
Having watched this two-parter again during the Mega Mare-a-thon, the reactions that Twilight's friends actually make sense. However, Celestia's reaction doesn't sit well with me because she could have been the slightest bit suspicious since Cadence is her adoptive niece and all...
Chrysalis is my favorite villain ever, and the song is my favorite song (not just in mlp). The first comic in the main series is my favorite of them and I love this episode! Favorites everywhere!
Chrysalis is my favorite antagonist of the show. No, wait, my favorite antagonist ever. No, wait, my favorite character in the whole show. Heck, she's even my desktop background and my Minecraft skin...
The main problems I hear about this episode, Twilight's brother and the fact that she reacts too fast to accusing "Cadence", is what kinda breaks the immersion. Personally, I would have changed it so that Twilight was estranged from her brother and Chrysalis had impersonated him instead of Cadence. This would explain why he was never present in her flashbacks or at her birthday. It would also arguably build on Twilight's original characterization of not knowing about friendship; after all what would destroy your ability to make friends than your brother doing something so bad that you'd want nothing to do with him? This would also help with the second point where Twilight would start being suspicious of Shining Armor, instead of almost instantly becoming suspicious of Cadence because of one line. Twilight being suspicious of Cadence because the latter was unpleasant makes it seem like Twilight is being selfish since she doesn't seem to accept people can change. If she was estranged from her brother, there would be no question that she'd be suspicious of him from the get-go and would be trying to find some reason to justify those suspicions to her friends. Part 2 could also be strengthened by having the overall plot of the original Shining Armor trying to make up to Twilight about their estrangement (how this works depends on how they were estranged). However if they actually did this, it would be a minimum of 3 episodes, if not 4. Considering season 3 opens with another two-parter featuring Cadence and Shining, this would effectively make it a mini-series within the series split between two seasons.
MechaEmperor7000i don't really see a problem with the way Shining was introduced. The timing was wierd but Plus at the time were barely saw Mane six other parents. The plot and the relationship with twilight and shining was still pulled off well
I remember a really good fanfic made shortly after this episode aired wherein a fan starts obsessing over Queen Chrysalis in the real world. Meanwhile, in Equestria, his obsession along with that of all the other bronies and pegasisters is giving the Queen near godlike power and she flies off to attack Canterlot again. And then, back in the real world, the brony from before discovers that the show has been cancelled...
It's funny that you mentioned how part 1 ended with happy music. Back in the summer of 2013, I was marathoning the show on Netflix on my Xbox 360, and A Canterlot Wedding Part 1's credits played, no music was playing. :P
Honestly, "There will be a war soon" is a pretty damn normal reason to have a wedding. Nothing makes people worried about getting things done like threats of imminent death.
And still, you this day, no song has even come close to beating the quality of This Day Aria. Except Bats. While Bats didn't beat This Day Aria in terms of quality in my opinion, it still came pretty damn close because of it's amazing organization, instrumentals, and Tim Burton-esque feel to it. So to me, This Day Aria and Bats are the best in the series so far.
"The shield wall is down! I repeat: THE SHIELD WALL IS DOWN!! SABOTAGE! KOR DID IT! I knew the Metalheads would be the end of me. Oh no, METALHEADS AT THE DOOR! THEYRE BREAKING THROUGH! TOO MANY OF THEM! JAK!!"
This Day Aria has to be my favorite out of all the seasons' songs. Though I will admit Love Is In Bloom kind of ruined the feeling the episode gave me with Aria; a serious tone basically. But I can let it slide tbhh.
The only thing that bothers me is that Queen Chrysalis's main goal was to feed her race. Now that doesn't make her seem so villainous. Of course she had to be defeated because, she is still a villain. But I'm afraid that she and her kind are going to starve to death. She has returned in the comics but was defeated again. If Discord can be made good (or as good as you can make him) why can't you do that for Chrysalis? Teach her to love and maybe she and the changelings can feed on that love and that would be very efficient. Or find a spell that will turn them into real ponies instead of the insectoid parasitic creatures they are. I dunno. There are people that would rather have Chrysalis dead but remember that this is a children's cartoon. Death has been in children's cartoons before, but death seems to be very out of place in my little pony. That's why I find it very surprisingly violent that King Sombra explodes, although that was freaking awesome.
Well, we eat hamburgers; but if I shove 20 burgers down your throat all at once you'd probably choke and die. In this sense, the "love wave" was probably just to much for them to handle all at once meaning that even if they did get any power from it there was still way too much to absorb at one time.
Jarosław Sobiński I never said it was an exact comparison. After all, how in the hell could they choke on love? But the part that you should really pay attention to is the fact that you can only take so many hamburgers before it's too many. A slightly more accurate analogy may be comparing them to batteries as a battery can only hold a certain amount of charge before the battery gets damaged. In that sense, the changelings are like living batteries that recharge through love. It also works better since electricity isn't physical, but the effect is essentially the same (damage to the thing eating/absorbing it)
Twilight: “YOU NEVER TOLD ME!?! IT TAKES YEARS BEFORE A COUPLE GETS TO THIS POINT AND YOU NEVER TOLD ME!?!” Shining armor: “I HAD PRINCESS CELESTIA SEND YOU A LETTER! YOU NEVER REPLIED” Twilight: Shining armor: Twilight: “oh no the lava pit” Shining Armor: “the what?” Twilight: “the letter was destroyed by a dragon, long story” What? That could’ve justified things a bit more
Chysi is my favorite villain because she's super cute, and all she wants is to find somewhere for her subjects to live. she's looking out for her people like a responsible ruler. granted, her plan was evil, but it could be explained. maybe she already considered asking Celestia if she could stay, but Celestia said no.
TwoFaced Barricade, if you pay attention very closely, when Rainbow helps Fluttershy up, she appears to kiss Fluttershy on the nose, while Fluttershy looks like she's embarrassed and stunned, while Rainbow is beaming. Strebiskunk has fanboyed over this scene a few times, but honestly I hadn't even noticed it until he pointed it out. You really have to watch on super slo-mo to catch the actual moment, then pause it immediate after to see those reaction shots. It's questionable rather or not what you think you see is even what's there at all, but if it is, I don't mind. I ship Apple Dash myself (and Fluttercord, but that's more relevant moving on from season 3 than anything), but Flutterdash makes a lot of sense too, especially considering they have more history together than any of the rest of the Mane Six do. There's also the fact that she breaks into Fluttershy's room and pulls the sheets off of her during "Super-Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000", which leaves Fluttershy understandably flustered, but not to the point she kicks Rainbow out. Apparently, Rainbow must visit her at night often and she must be okay with Rainbow being in her bedroom.
I love This Day Aria. :3 I honestly don't know why that song doesn't get as much love. It's a truly great song. It sounds nice, tells the story well and characterizes both Cadance and "Fake Cadance" perfectly. Also, the inception about it being called This Day *Aria* a·ri·a ˈärēə noun noun: aria; plural noun: arias a long, accompanied song for a solo voice, typically one in an opera or oratorio. *BUT IT'S TWO PEOPLE USING THE SAME VOICE.* BWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN
the thing I value most in a cartoon is the experience was it good was it bad? it was awesome, I dont care about the flaws, it was funny, it had action, and drama.
Chrysalis is an idiot - but she's every bit as threatening as the other villains who have shown up. Nightmare Moon and Discord were both going to destroy the world in different ways (not just wanted to - they had the power to do it, and Discord succeeded... temporarily), Sombra gave an entire empire PTSD for a thousand years (there was no need to show him being a threat, just to show how terrified the crystal ponies were of what he was), and Chrysalis and her horde are mindless horrors that feed on emotion, and as such have nothing but contempt for those who provide it. They are a horde of locusts, indiscriminately devouring anything that gets in their way, and that what they devour is feelings makes them terrifying. They don't have to be smart to be dangerous.
No, that's true, but Chrysalis' idiocy can still be face-palming. "Obviously this pony knows the pony I'm masquerading as, and has happy memories of her, but I'm still going to act like a total jerk around her!" "Oh, I think I'll put Twilight in the same room where I put the real Cadance; sure, that might prove to Twilight that she was right all along and give the only two ponies who can spoil my plan a sporting chance, but I gotta be evil somehow!" You see what I mean?
changeling queen is my favorite villein in the show I wish she came back {though i have not watch past season 3 } Though did you say they bring her back in the comics?
OH THANK GOD! I swear I was the only person who thought that looked like a kiss when Dash picked up Fluttershy. It seemed so obvious to me, but nobody really seemed to think that. And it's not like I'm a shipper who sees this stuff everywhere, I have really don't 'ship' anything except cannon couples (is that even considered shipping? I don't know. That's how little I ship.) It was like some sort of anti-shipping gaslighting... Good, now I know I'm not insane.
8/10 eeeehhhh I dunno, the plot, characters, action sequences, and even the main villain ( a villain I honestly didn't care much about at first. No joke) were all great. I just don't care about the "This Day" aria...I just don't...it serves it's purpose, but it's just so...Disney to me (And yeah, I don't expect anyone to get that) and Queen Crysalis basically loses by...monologueing. Couldn't she just lock Caidence & the mane 6 away underground after capturing anyone...? or something other than break into an aria? Just my opinion tho...
This episode while extremely flawed with some things just there for the sake of the episode or some things not making sense. But what is good, is so good that it makes the experience of watching the episode just amazing. The songs, "B.B.B.F.F." and "This Day Aria" I love, the emotions in this episode was very strong, the villian, Queen Chrysallis, while her plot was confusing, was very intimidating and great. The battle scene with the Changelings is one of the best the show has done, only behind the Dragonball like fight with Twilight and Tirek, and the war-like reality in the Cutie Re-Mark. I love the new characters in the episode. I really like a lot of things in this 2 Parter. Part 1: This was really great. I love the song in it, the backstory with Shining Armor was well done and I was invested in it. The only issue is that it felt like Shining Armor and Cadence were in the episode just for the plot. At least, that's what it felt like to me. There was also a lot of emotional moments with Twilight that I love 5 Out of 5 Stars Gold Part 2: Awesome action scene, awesome villain song, great intensity, some good emotion, great conflict. Only issue I have with it is that when you think about it, the villain's plan is kinda confusing. 5 Out of 5 Stars Gold Overall:97/130 See y'all in the season overview
That was great, but did you know that this episode unintentionally made Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Applejack, Spike and Princess Celestia secondary antagonists to Queen Chrysalis? April 4, 2018, 11:19am
about alicorns, I kinda think the idea in Hasbro (aside from toys) is making the alicorns command "elements of life". Luna and Celestia control the day and night, eventualy time itself, Twilght commands friendship, which the show shoehorned as just as important, and Cadence commands Love (that "love-spreading" power might be what earned her the alicorn status) So I wouldn't be surprised if the next Alicorn is the princess of something just as important as day/night, friendship and love.
I'm willing to assume the lack of resistance to Chrysalis' reveal is from a deer-in-the-headlights shock, especially considering that everybody would have been exceedingly happy and eager for a wedding ceremony. Literal mood-whiplash for those involved.
5:12 i hate how people HATE this part of the episode, they say its stupid because she feeds off of love but think about this, would you consider food powerful? Like do you think a burrito would be able to expel all evil in the land? Love is food for the changelings so to them it gives them power much like any food empowers your body but to consider that the food itself has power seems unlikely right? I have no problem with this statement at all because it seems logical for her to think its useless in that aspect.
The only part I really hated about this episode is the escape sequence. Cadence has been lying around like a damsel in distress when she could have easily used her magic to break the wall, fly out of the dungeon, and distract the mind controlled bridesmaids. I mean, it seems like Twili is dealing with a flimsy ruler; wobbles too much but can be used for an important purpose.
Yeah, that kinda bugs me too; if Chrysalis had glued her hoofs to the floor of the cave like she does to her later, then that would probably be a bit more believable.
I prefer it involves celestia and luna having a fight over who got the higher title. It ended with Celestia calling her Sell Super God-Empress of the Sun and Luna the the All-Might Super Awesome Goddess Queen of the Moon.
You know thinking back on this episode I believe we can add another thing to the Celestia is an asshole board with the fact she's kinda starving an entire people (changlings) instead of trying to find some way to work things out and just getting rid of they're evil queen she pretty much just banishes them to starve again. (she has a habit of punishments far out weighing there crimes XD)
One thing that got to me: In one of the best songs of the whole show, the This Day Aria, The Cadence impostor says she doesn't care about all this wedding stuff, and it's very legit that she doesn't care, but if she didn't care, WHY was she being demanding and appearing to know exactly what she wanted for everything, down to minute details?
As a cover story. She has to seem like the real Cadence since she and Shining Armor had been planning the wedding for months. If she suddenly started changing details that close to the date ponies would very quickly get suspicious and she couldn't have that.
Yes but being a bridezilla as she was, was exactly what proved to Twilight that something wasn't right. Obviously the first hint something wasn't right was Cadence not knowing the sunshine sunshine thing.
Lunara Hunter Very true but I've seen level headed brides suddenly go Bridezilla the weeks and even days leading up to the wedding itself due to sheer stress. Had Twilight not been so possessive she might not have noticed. As for their secret handshake that's not as easily passed off as Chrysallis merely forgetting and its more of an oversight that could have been better explained to keep the suspense and prolong the reveal.
I don't know, it just doesn't seem to me like Chrysalis was a very good actress. If I'd been her, I would have at least pretended like I knew what Twilight was doing. "Oh yeah, I remember that. It's been ages!" blah blah blah, and would have been nicer so as not to draw so much attention to myself and keep the other ponies busy. (Plus burstin into song about your evil plan during which you announce that you don't love the man you're marrying probably is a bad idea :p)
Lunara Hunter Again true, but given Shining Armor came literally out of left field I think Crissy not knowing is probably more because of that than her logically not playing along. There's a lot of holes when it comes to Cadance and SA anyway. And yeah, as awesome as the aria is definitely a bad idea. XD
"What a lovely but absolutely ridiculous sentiment!" is one of my favorite lines of the show. I don't understand why people have problems with it either.
***** But it doesn't make any sense. Twilight have saved Equestria many times, she knows Cadance, and they all know that Canterlot is under treat. That's why I don't like it.
***** Yea, saying that alone ruined the episode is in my opinion overreacting. To me it was just one scene I didn't like. And I can understand why you won't want to be called a brony, I still use it myself, even if I lately moved away from MLP, for example I have now humanised all my original characters, and remove any references to mlp. Except magic, and wings. Since those traits are key features they have. Yea, other villains are stronger. But Chrysalis is still my favorite.
***** Yes, I have so far created two universes. One where all my MLP OCs ended up, and another completely original universe, which I started to fill out with characters that is created from scratch. Here are some of my mlp OCs yemto.deviantart.com/gallery/38013684/My-Ponies Ice horn and Hawkwing didn't became much. But the others I have used a lot more. I made another deviantart account for my original universe, sadly I haven't done much with it. twelk.deviantart.com/gallery/
***** Here's what I find funny... In "Ponyville Confidential", when the other ponies were shunning the Crusaders, we were expected to take their side. But in this episode, when the ponies shunned Twilight, they were shown as being in the wrong.
I personally thought the idea of Twilight and Shining Armor never having a single fight was stretching it, though everything else was fine by me. As for Cadance, isn't it weird that Twilight JUST sang about how Shining Armor was her only friend, only to go "oh yeah, she's also my friend!" Also, her love powers were pretty poorly defined in her introduction. That aside, I also don't have much of a problem with Cadance, either. Nice job pointing out the alicorn in Hearts and Hooves Day! I should probably mention I really don't like part 1 (it was just hard for me to sit through in general) while I LOVE part 2 (even though it totally goes off the walls with nonsensical actions and motivations, mostly on Queen Chrysalis's part). Much like the Smile song, I went through a phase of not liking This Day Aria, since the lyrics leave a lot to be desired... though after Atlantis Squarepantis, I'm not complaining. Plus, listening to it again, it still gives me chills! That person who does Cadance's voice, I'm blanking on her name, sorry, she's INCREDIBLE!!! And Daniel Ingram, man, he knows how to make grand-feeling songs! Though I have to admit, I'm NOT entirely sure if it was necessarily, since basically it reinforces that clone Cadance is evil, which we don't really need... Then again, it shows that real Cadance truly does love Shining Armor, so I'll give them that. Also, I'd subtract a point for the bridesmaids, since we don't know if they're really ponies or changelings, where Cadance got that bouquet from, or why they disappeared in the first place. Also, you'd THINK Chrysalis would bother to look into the fact that Cadance is a princess of love... then again, given the other lapses in logic with her plans, it's not that surprising. Also, I actually like the micro-comic series more then the main series, if I'll be honest. Also, apparently, you haven't watched that many Disney movies if you don't realize that most modern Disney movies, starting back to the 90's, ends on a pop song. They just usually play during the credits.
What do the exclamation points mean specifically? Sorry, I'm a newbie to your channel--but I LOVE your stuff, and am now subscribed! EDIT: Nevermind, I'll watch the episode before I ask next time :P
I think the problem with Crysalis being dismissive of Cadance and Shining Armor is because she scoffs at the power of love magic, which was the same magic used to defeat Celestia.
Changlings are a step down from incubi and sucubi. Apparently Hasbro didn't make changlings up, I didn't know that until I watched Josh's review on it.
also should probably mention that it will be primarily about disproving or mitigating most of the logical irregularities pointed out by Anthony C & BC.
This probably isn't important, but I've always wondered, is Shining Armor really Twilight's older brother? As in, they both have the same parents? Or is he just a unicorn she's always looked up to and admired, and she simply calls him her older brother, even though they're not related?
According to the book "Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell" Cadence was found by Celestia when she was a young pegasus (not an alicorn at the time) and Celestia adopted her as a niece.
Currently... After the season four finale... This is his favorite show currently airing. He still likes Courage the Cowardly Dog and Samurai Jack more. Possibly Avatar the Last Airbender too. But those shows ended years ago so yeah.
Before I started watching Mr. Enter's videos, I hated the Season 3 finale. But after seeing his review on it... I still hate it, but I do have more appreciation for the episode. But here? It seems that not even Mr. Enter can change my mind about this episode, despite the fact that I actually used to hate the Season 3's finale more than the Season 2 one. Maybe it's because the Season 2 finale is TRULY flawed, and Mr. Enter ignored most of them.
A shame you did not mention that Chrysalis's defeat was a Deus ex machina, it pretty came as a cheap solution and pretty disapointing considering the climax.
MrEnter, I'm working on a full response deconstructing their deconstruction and I will post it on my other channel, so if you could give me any info that you might not have been able to fit into your video, I would be much obliged.
am i the only one who thinks that this point-system works kinda like powerlevels in dragonball Z? i don't get it... i have seen him call episodes with few points good and episodes with many points not so good..... makes no sense to me.... you may as well say that the episodes can hide their powerlevel and other stuff like that ;-)
if you still don't understand it the opinion and fact are different. the score is the episodes faults or highlights while his opinion is how he connected with it. like an episode can be good but he may not personally like it or vice versa.
BlythePennyBicycle21 A reviewer who was very pro-MLP....until this ep and it introduced Cadence and Shining Armor. After which, every ep after and Prior became shit to him. Even the Eps He liked. And became one of the most Anti-MLP and ANti-Brony person imaginable.
TheVader2 Applejack did apologize to Twilight after the Mane 6 were captured and Chrysalis rubbed it in all of her friends' face about getting so wrapped up in the wedding's preparations that they ignored Twilight's warnings.
I thunk the main reason Chrysalis just laughs at the power of love is because it's just food to her. Just food.
To you it would be more like being threatened with a hamburger.
That makes a lot more sense now. Thank you.
Except that feeding on love makes her more powerful. Not only is it food, it's also a power boost. Recall the line "Consuming Shining Armor's love has made me even more powerful than Celestia!" after she defeats Celestia.
Well, she feeds on love, Shining Armor doesn't. Why would she think Shining gains power from love?
+Kris- Simsters Or maybe Rainbow Dash could have stuck by her? Cuz she's, oh I don't know, the element of LOYALTY.
+KanaHyoshi THANK YOU! I'm not the only one who was annoyed by this
+KanaHyoshi Exactly.
Like he said the episode isn't perfect plus it was understandable why Twilight's friends were like that
+Carl Bloke True, but if Mr. "Why wasn't Shining Armor at his own sister's birthday in Cantalot?"
Well, wasn't the original place going to be Ponyville and she changed it to Cantalot on the spot? Also, since he is captain of the royal guards, it will be hard for him to take a break just for his sister's birthday, right?
***** Actually, the reason why he wasn't there is because the writers wanted to do a wedding episode, so they made up two random characters on the spot and made one of them Twilight's sibling to give the Mane Six a reason to go.
I completly agree. Also adult siblings dont usually talk to each other no matter how close due to jobs.
Also...another question: how many people ask if you have a sibling if they may never meet? I mean, most shows do this sort of thing.
Totally agree!
"How can Chrysalis be defeated by love, if she feeds off of it?" ...ever been hit upside the head by a 20lb ham, son? It HURTS.
Okay, that's both funny AND true.
***** Getting hit with a 30 lb sack of sugar probably isn't pleasant, either.
Uh…that’s a meme weapon…great for trollgers
"If you hit something strong enough with a hammer it will break" except nokia cellphone, because those things are "imortal objects".
This Day Aria is my favorite song of the entire series :)
Same here, I was really impressed with how the song was created.
I'd prefer a rock or metal version of it, but This Day Aria is a fantastic song.
+Shwah Gamers Same.
HairMetalBrony1016
Late reply, but I don't think that would fit in with the episode. And I don't think the lyrics would fit that genre
I'm personality pissed off at the rest of the mane six because if I was a member of the group I'd actually look into twilight accusation because I would have believe in a the person I knew for months over the one I just met a week ago
I wondered if Twilight actually managed to get back at the changling queen by murdering her? I know, that's a little too far.
Maybe.... um. Maybe they suspected that she was being overprotective?
whosmy cherrypie True, but it was because of the wedding that their guards were lowered.
According to the MLP Wiki, "She is the former apprentice of Princess Celestia, who practically adopted her as a niece."
Chrysalis is my favorite villain ever, and the song is my favorite song (not just in mlp). The first comic in the main series is my favorite of them and I love this episode! Favorites everywhere!
Anna Kuhlmann well have I got a surprise for yOOUuuUooUuuu
Chrysalis is my favorite antagonist of the show. No, wait, my favorite antagonist ever. No, wait, my favorite character in the whole show. Heck, she's even my desktop background and my Minecraft skin...
Just casually reading youtube comments in the middle of the night in the dress I got engaged in four hours ago.
Luna Cappell well, look, I don’t want to disappoint you but....
Celestia got pwned? No, she Pwnied
... I'll show myself out
******pulls out Katana* bring it
Hah!
destendgem*kicks you in the nuts with a spiked cleat* I win
spikeharusame I have ball of steel.
spikeharusame
*pulls out beehive on a stick*
This is going to *bee* good...
But aside from 5/6 of the mane six, no one really knew who Mare-Do-Well was, so that kind of adds to the possibility of more alicorns existing.
The plot and the relationship with twilight and shining was still pulled off well
I actually liked these episodes so I'm glad to hear a reviewer like it
I remember a really good fanfic made shortly after this episode aired wherein a fan starts obsessing over Queen Chrysalis in the real world. Meanwhile, in Equestria, his obsession along with that of all the other bronies and pegasisters is giving the Queen near godlike power and she flies off to attack Canterlot again.
And then, back in the real world, the brony from before discovers that the show has been cancelled...
I thought the episode was decent, unlike some critics say about about. (looking at you, CR)
I thought it was crueler and worse than Putting Your Hoof Down. August 18, 2018, 10:05am
Oh sure Hasbro blame everything on Disney.
Speaking of changelings, you should review "times are a changeling"
"The shield wall is down! I repeat: THE SHIELD WALL IS DOWN!! SABOTAGE! KOR DID IT! I knew the Metalheads would be the end of me. Oh no, METALHEADS AT THE DOOR! THEYRE BREAKING THROUGH! TOO MANY OF THEM! JAK!!"
This Day Aria has to be my favorite out of all the seasons' songs. Though I will admit Love Is In Bloom kind of ruined the feeling the episode gave me with Aria; a serious tone basically. But I can let it slide tbhh.
2:54 That face is so heart-breaking.
WAIT! If the Changelings feeds on love, shouldn't the "Love wave" of Cadance and Shining made them stronger?
Well, we eat hamburgers; but if I shove 20 burgers down your throat all at once you'd probably choke and die. In this sense, the "love wave" was probably just to much for them to handle all at once meaning that even if they did get any power from it there was still way too much to absorb at one time.
Atomic Robo Tesla
Yeah, but Hamburgers are solid matter. Love is a meta physical energy. That comparison is invalid.
It also works better since electricity isn't physical, but the effect is essentially the same (damage to the thing eating/absorbing it)
+Jarosław Sobiński (Worldwatcher)
It's magic you don't have to explain it
Spidey View
You watch Silver Quill's reviews, don't you?
DONT YOU MEAN A SECRET HOOFSHAKE
No.
+Cody Hines YES they have hooves dummy
3:30 dont you mean secret hoof shake.
4:54 What exactly was the problem here?
Twilight: “YOU NEVER TOLD ME!?! IT TAKES YEARS BEFORE A COUPLE GETS TO THIS POINT AND YOU NEVER TOLD ME!?!”
Shining armor: “I HAD PRINCESS CELESTIA SEND YOU A LETTER! YOU NEVER REPLIED”
Twilight:
Shining armor:
Twilight: “oh no the lava pit”
Shining Armor: “the what?”
Twilight: “the letter was destroyed by a dragon, long story”
What?
I honestly don't know why that song doesn't get as much love. It's a truly great song. It sounds nice, tells the story well and characterizes both Cadance and "Fake Cadance" perfectly.
Also, the inception about it being called This Day *Aria*
a·ri·a
ˈärēə
noun
noun: aria; plural noun: arias
a long, accompanied song for a solo voice, typically one in an opera or oratorio.
*BUT IT'S TWO PEOPLE USING THE SAME VOICE.*
BWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN
4:53 Slow it down to .25 You can see they don't kiss. You can all calm down, people. They did not kiss.
the thing I value most in a cartoon is the experience was it good was it bad? it was awesome, I dont care about the flaws, it was funny, it had action, and drama.
I loved everything about this episode the song the villain the plot
"Obviously this pony knows the pony I'm masquerading as, and has happy memories of her, but I'm still going to act like a total jerk around her!"
"Oh, I think I'll put Twilight in the same room where I put the real Cadance; sure, that might prove to Twilight that she was right all along and give the only two ponies who can spoil my plan a sporting chance, but I gotta be evil somehow!"
You see what I mean?
changeling queen is my favorite villein in the show I wish she came back {though i have not watch past season 3 } Though did you say they bring her back in the comics?
OH THANK GOD! I swear I was the only person who thought that looked like a kiss when Dash picked up Fluttershy. It seemed so obvious to me, but nobody really seemed to think that. And it's not like I'm a shipper who sees this stuff everywhere, I have really don't 'ship' anything except cannon couples (is that even considered shipping? I don't know. That's how little I ship.)
It was like some sort of anti-shipping gaslighting...
Good, now I know I'm not insane.
What controversy was he referring to at 4:54?
What comics was he talking about @5:30?
Of course, but I'm going to have to wait until it comes out for several reasons. Namely, so I can see it.
Mr enter if you could rank each of mlp fim seasons finale, where would the season 2 finale land?
8/10 eeeehhhh I dunno, the plot, characters, action sequences, and even the main villain ( a villain I honestly didn't care much about at first. No joke) were all great. I just don't care about the "This Day" aria...I just don't...it serves it's purpose, but it's just so...Disney to me (And yeah, I don't expect anyone to get that) and Queen Crysalis basically loses by...monologueing. Couldn't she just lock Caidence & the mane 6 away underground after capturing anyone...? or something other than break into an aria? Just my opinion tho...
I love Applejack in this episode, she is HILARIOUS!
There was also a lot of emotional moments with Twilight that I love
5 Out of 5 Stars
Gold
Part 2: Awesome action scene, awesome villain song, great intensity, some good emotion, great conflict. Only issue I have with it is that when you think about it, the villain's plan is kinda confusing.
5 Out of 5 Stars
Gold
Overall:97/130
See y'all in the season overview
This is my favorite episode so far! (I haven't watched every episode yet but I'd say this would probably remain in my top 5 .)
I think I might prefer This Day Aria to SMILE!! as well, not just because it had context but because of how FANTASTIC it is for parody purposes!
An episode needs to get at least 5 strikes to be considered worth 5 points That doesn't change for 2 parters. Each part has a 5/5
I'm willing to assume the lack of resistance to Chrysalis' reveal is from a deer-in-the-headlights shock, especially considering that everybody would have been exceedingly happy and eager for a wedding ceremony.
I'm actually doing it based on out of 100. So, it's really 90/100. Anything higher than 100 would be considered an A++
4:13 Really? (actually asking a question, not the "Did you seriously just do that?" kind of really)
you should listen to this day aria in japanese the third part of the song is even more haunting than the original
will you be doing an EQ girls review? I really enjoyed the movie :3
I think Celestia can't be a queen because Lauren Faust is the Queen of Equestria.
I prefer it involves celestia and luna having a fight over who got the higher title. It ended with Celestia calling her Sell Super God-Empress of the Sun and Luna the the All-Might Super Awesome Goddess Queen of the Moon.
Do we see more of the Changelings later on?
In the comics. Unless the changelings come back. That would be cool.
In the comic series yes. In the cartoon, no
th3r3 is on3 in slic3 of lif3, 🔼 s3🔼son 5 3pisod3
You know thinking back on this episode I believe we can add another thing to the Celestia is an asshole board with the fact she's kinda starving an entire people (changlings) instead of trying to find some way to work things out and just getting rid of they're evil queen she pretty much just banishes them to starve again. (she has a habit of punishments far out weighing there crimes XD)
I mean, in a way they were blown away by a giant condensed version of their food.
I think you gave this episode more credit than it deserved.
no it deserves ALL the credit it gets
Tyler Leach I am staying true to my statement.
The changelings from season 2 to 7 oh how much they've changed. Heroes and villains and when they are good or bad.
I don't like the first part, specially when twilight gets told off, and the fact that it's a wedding episode. But over all its okay.
But in this episode, when the ponies shunned Twilight, they were shown as being in the wrong.
funfact Crissys part of This Day Aria is actually referred to as a reverse or fake cadence.
This was the 1st episode I ever saw and it made me watch it more.
Yeah people tend to compare the changelings to succubus considering how they work. Let that sink in for a sec
Changlings are a step down from incubi and sucubi.
Apparently Hasbro didn't make changlings up, I didn't know that until I watched Josh's review on it.
Lulu Alma still pretty scary when you really think about these guys.
also should probably mention that it will be primarily about disproving or mitigating most of the logical irregularities pointed out by Anthony C & BC.
This probably isn't important, but I've always wondered, is Shining Armor really Twilight's older brother? As in, they both have the same parents? Or is he just a unicorn she's always looked up to and admired, and she simply calls him her older brother, even though they're not related?
peter krug He's her biological brother.
peter krug Considering their parents appear at the wedding, I'd say he actually is her brother.
Woah, a boom.after 20 seconds. That's new record.
hmm a guy getting hypnotized and forced to marry an evil villain in disguise where have I heard that before
The one with the villian? The Crystal Empire.
Only issue I have...the bride is Celestia's niece, yet we haven't been made aware of any other siblings Celestia has.
According to the book "Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell"
Cadence was found by Celestia when she was a young pegasus (not an alicorn at the time) and Celestia adopted her as a niece.
***** So technically, she and Celestia ARE family, just not blood family...
Pretty much :)
What was the controversy?
4:54 What controversy?
Shipping Goggles.
Fluttershy and rainbow dash looked like they where kissing, they even made a soundtrack proving it.
Do you like the show or do you just review it? From what I've seen b4 you never seem to like episode but I just started watching you so idk.
5:44 Did you even watch the whole video?
Currently... After the season four finale... This is his favorite show currently airing. He still likes Courage the Cowardly Dog and Samurai Jack more. Possibly Avatar the Last Airbender too. But those shows ended years ago so yeah.
Crisilis needs to make another appearance!! and If I had an OC it would be a changeling
I don't get the ending. Is Twilight a changeling now? Will we see the real Twilight in Season 5?
Am I the only one who thinks it would be hilarious if vinyls choice of music during the wedding reception was "I write sins not tragedies"?
5.26 they touch horns GAY
How is it gay...
A shame you did not mention that Chrysalis's defeat was a Deus ex machina, it pretty came as a cheap solution and pretty disapointing considering the climax.
This is my mom's favorite episode. She saw it BEFORE ME.
This is also my favorite song of the season.
my first episode of mlp. I have to love it!
MrEnter, I'm working on a full response deconstructing their deconstruction and I will post it on my other channel, so if you could give me any info that you might not have been able to fit into your video, I would be much obliged.
am i the only one who thinks that this point-system works kinda like powerlevels in dragonball Z?
i don't get it... i have seen him call episodes with few points good and episodes with many points not so good..... makes no sense to me.... you may as well say that the episodes can hide their powerlevel and other stuff like that ;-)
"Vegeta, what does the scouter say about it's power level?"
"It's...it's over *_9 ECLAMATION POINTS!!!!!!!!!"
"What? That can't be right!"
if you still don't understand it the opinion and fact are different. the score is the episodes faults or highlights while his opinion is how he connected with it. like an episode can be good but he may not personally like it or vice versa.
This episode will always be good in my opinion because it was the first I ever saw
As soon as I can
why did you put 10 out of 10 when it only got to 9 out of 10?
And here's the episode Chad Rocco showed his true colors.
The One-Whose-Name-I-will-not-Dirty-my-Mouth-to-Speak loathes this episode entirely because of Cadence. Though he never said exactly why he hates her.
It's because she and shining armor's existence means Twilight wasn't a bitter tortured, bullied Woobie prior to meeting the mane six.
yamiblade So it's bad because it ruins his headcannon? Clearly a paragon of intellect and reasoning, this man.

A reviewer who was very pro-MLP....until this ep and it introduced Cadence and Shining Armor. After which, every ep after and Prior became shit to him. Even the Eps He liked. And became one of the most Anti-MLP and ANti-Brony person imaginable.
F*** Chad Rocco.
Am I the only one who doesn't remember the mane 6, Francis, and Celestia all not apologizing to Twilight? I don't think it happened.
TheVader2
Applejack did apologize to Twilight after the Mane 6 were captured and Chrysalis rubbed it in all of her friends' face about getting so wrapped up in the wedding's preparations that they ignored Twilight's warnings.
