I located an English translation
A DONKEY IS GOING TO BETHLEHEM
A donkey is going to Bethlehem, rin rin,
(I was darning, I darned
I put a patch on, I took it off.)
Loaded with chocolate.
It carries its chocolate pot
(I was darning, I darned
I put a patch on, I took it off.)
It carries its chocolate whisk and its stove.
Mary, Mary, come running here
It's eating the chocolate,
Mary, Mary, come flying here
It's taking away the chocolate.
In the stable of Bethlehem, rin rin,
(I was darning, I darned
I put a patch on, I took it off.)
Little gypsies have come in
And the baby who’s in the crib, rin rin,
(I was darning, I darned
I put a patch on, I took it off.)
They’ve taken his nappies
Mary, Mary, come running here
They’re taking the nappies
Mary, Mary, come running here
They’re taking the nappies
Yes, I have the lyrics to Hacia Belen
Who’s the wonderful baritone? I think this version was done and recorded twice. If so, TWO magnificent baritones!
The english and spanish are included on the album cover! I want a copy of that old album!
This is what I can piece together from when I learned this song many years ago. Please feel free to correct my spelling and translation. This will do until something better comes along.
Towards Bethlehem goes a little donkey laden with chocolate. He carries a chocolate _______, the grinder and the _______. Maria, Maria, come running. He’s eating the chocolate.
Into the gate of Bethlehem enter Gypsies. While the child is sleeping they steal his clothes. Maria, Maria, come running. They’ve stolen the clothes.
With a sombrero of straw, into the gate entered a Galician. While he admires the child, the donkey eats the sombrero. Maria, Maria, come running, because the donkey has eaten the sombrero. Maria, Maria, come running, comfort the Galician who is here crying.
Thank you Mazurka. Your efforts to translate this song is such a blessing! Peace be upon you and your family!
Thank you, my pleasure! Blessings and peace to you as well and thanks for posting this wonderful song.
yo me ch-un remiendo = yo me eché un remiendo
Another one saying thanks for this. It's one of my two favorite Christmas songs.
The only words I could pick up were chocolate and sombrero.
Couldn't figure out what a sombrero had to do with xmas. Now I know
Chocolatillo is the chocolate spelling. It is the Spanish way of spelling it
Lindo
who is the artist and what is it called...the painting, that is! Thanks!
It's certainly a different take without the bright red and white and with the lovely wildlife.
