Lovely girl. Pretty dress. Gorgeous voice. She impresses me a great deal. Her control is excellent and her tone and timbre are clear and exquisite. She makes it seem effortless, just as it should be.
She's perfect. This kind of soprano is very common; but in this case, she is exceptional voice: glamour; without dangerous zones, and, over thing, I believe in her performance, emission vocal and elegant natural... (Excuse me for my English)
I've been to see her concert before. Her passion, attitude towards the crowd and love to her audience was amazing. I was just in love with her whole package of that night. You don't see it in youtube. Judge her in her concert!! Bet you'll be in love of this world. ;)
sumimimio - I think that you underestimate the skill of a true professional like Sumi; the whole essence of being an international diva is the training in the 4 languages. Secondly, Sumi is interviewed someone on RUclips by a French opera-buff & she chats on for an hour in excellent Parisien French. Thirdly, even if one sings in one's own mother-tongue, invariably there's some words which get a bit mangled. However, Sumi is the greates - her diction is nigh perfect!

For people who's saying they cant understand what she's saying... Watch this! I think it's just her changed singing style as time passes... Anyway... I love her she's the best ruclips.net/video/R6MaNJ7NFSs/видео.html&feature=related
I've been listening to opera my whole life, and I've been receiving classical training for 3 years, been singing independantly since I was 13, I'm 24....I don't see what any of this has to do with preference. I'm allowed to have mine and you're allowed yours. I'm an adult and I can reason. I won't knock your opinion because it's yours. Have a good day.
you can't compare singers because there are so many who are so good. its all personal. what do you look for? my personal favorite is joan sutherland. others cant stand her because of her diction. some love maria callas, i cant stand her. they are all still amazing.
she is the best soprano so far. you mean damrau is better than her if sumi jo won the first internatonalk puccini prize when damrau did not won any famous prize like sumi jo. when you get older, there will be more vibrato. not like toung. when sumi jo was young, she sang like a crystal.
This sounds a little crazy, but maybe it was her time of the month...it's tougher to support the higher notes during that time..and everything can be a little off. Maybe that's tmi...i dunno. ;)
she won the 1st puccini prize. you mean damrau is better than her if sumi jo won the prize not damrau? these people who are criticising sumi jo is idiotics. you're are not a expert. the puccini prize is only given to those people who are best in soprano
I prefer renee flemming. I just feel that this performance was mechanical and...yeah something lacking. She has a small voice in this song. Maybe it was an off night for her. I typically enjoy her voice.
Personally, I think this aria doesn't suit her voice type at all. Because this aria was written for a full lyric soprano or a dramatic coloratura who is capable of singing with a "full lyric" sound comfortably. To my knowledge, Sumi is a lyric coloratura (not dramatic) and is more suitable to roles like Queen of the Night, Olympia, Lucia among others. She has a beautiful voice, but personally I think she is trying to sing beyond her station.
omg seriously. You try to speak a language that is not your mother tongue. Can you speak well?? and all these opera singers have to sing in french, english, german, italian, and many other languages. you CANNOT expect the singers to have a well diction in all these languages. if you care so much about diction, go and watch NEWS and not opera. Opera is about music, musicality, technique feeling and much more. diction does count but not much.
It upsets me a student of sining that there are so many artists out there who get away with not singing the correct music and they are admired for it. I know their interpreation/voice is the key thing that people applaud and love, but shouldn't that be on top of the basic music as written by the composer? They're not setting a good example that's all... frustrating...
beautiful voice... but why oh why do they not teach ethics of being on stage today??? the incessant movement she makes with her body is distracting when in recital form. I was instantly turned off by the way she thinks more about how her hair is lying and waving to someone in the orchestra before she begins. The message should be the music, not "how I look"

♥️♥️♥️
Normally I do not like her, but her rendition of "Je Veux Vivre" is magnificent!
...and she looks lovely.
3:29 Holy crap. Impressive.

Sumi Jo sang for world cup 2002.

I still love Jeanete MacDonald best. But what a talent is Sumi Jo. Each to their own and appreciate the wonderful differences and gorgeous sounds.

Anyway... I love her she's the best

@CatalinaDM56 I totally agree.

she sings well but I'd like to admire her as a complete ; sound and acting at the same time. opera is not consisted of only singing.
well I suppose you have a point there. :)
^^수련꽃님
oui diana damrau est bien mais Sumi Jo trés bien aussi !
I would agree with that! This is not my favouriet performance of Ms Jo's. I have heard her sing better.
There's no lack of skill here, but she sounds a bit winded. Sounds like a rehearsal version.

its not my fault u dont have any logic..
oh please. 6 thumbs down? diana damrau is the reigning coloratura singing right now.
Nathaly Dessay would like a word with you.

I can't stand Callas too. My favorite is Lucia Popp. I've fallen in love with her voice.
you know, her voice is great and she is unbelievably talented....but her singing and her performances are so EMPTY...
thank you! apparently i'm hated by sumi lovers. it's not my fault diana damrau is infinitely better....
beautiful voice... but why oh why do they not teach ethics of being on stage today??? the incessant movement she makes with her body is distracting when in recital form. can't touch Diana Damrau though...
tão feinha tadinha, ainda bem q a voz salva e muito kkkkk
well I suppose you have a point there. :)
