Rotting Coffins at Brompton Catacombs | London

- A brief tour of Brompton Cemetery Catacombs. Filming isn't advised but I managed to get some shots on the way out, not before the guide turned off the lights so we couldn't film. The catacombs are open twice a year so this is a rare glimpse inside.
Brompton Cemetery offered a range of interments when it opened in 1840, to fit almost every pocket. The most expensive were large private plots along the Avenue, marked by eye-catching monuments. A stylish alternative was an ornate coffin on a shelf in the underground catacombs. It was also a way for Victorian mourners to stay close to their loved ones after death. A catacomb burial meant they could visit the coffin regularly.

@@shiraniweerasinghe472 Bear in mind though, there are no poor people in Brompton Cemetery, lavish funerals in Victorian Britain were exclusively for the wealthy.
I can see why some people including myself prefer to be creamated. I would hate to end up forgotten in a place like this

Great tour ! . 👍 . How interesting ! 🤔 . Did the tour guide tell you why he had an objection to filming ? . 🤷 . I noticed the x-large coffin at the end of the video . ⚰️. I'd seen those before when several people were buried together . That one particular held a family of three . 👪 . Victims of a double murder/suicide . The music was a good choice too , . 🎶. it was haunting . . 😲 . 🪦

I've never heard of whole families laid to rest in the same coffin, how are the pall bearers supposed to lift it

In the mid 90s I went down into the catacombs under st Brides Church in London. Loads of bones down there. Its very eerie

Wow juust the sort of place I would love to visit....this quick tour was also awesome just what I love to see.......They are so old the coffins they are falling apart...older than Australia though..

Wow, this is an exciting little trip. All these coffins in every state of decay, just one that looks kind of intact. Morbid and creepy, but I wold love to go there....... And hey, your choice of music is perfect! Thank you for showing us.
Also find these places a little weird. I mean surly it might be considered a biohazard as you don’t know what these people died from. Might be alsorts of airborne diseases
Just surprised that the lead hasn't been stolen.
The outer coffins fall away like scales, but the inner lead lining remains intact and shimmering in the light. That settles it for me...I know what I’m getting buried in.

Is it actually safe to be here? I speak of dust, mold, etc. I remember cleaning my boyfriend's apartment that he'd never cleaned in 9 years and I was sneezing, coughing and blowing my nose black for a while. I can't help but wonder if the things in the coffins are okay to be near.

No way will I visit Brompton catacombs or any other catacombs for that matter. I wouldn't want to be the first one in and the last one trailing behind in a group. Heck I would wet and poop myself in sheer fright!!!!

Did it smell in there? Mostly tombs and places like that have the musty weird old smell but with the old dead body under tone smell.
Smelt like a normal church, There are ventilation shafts for the crypt on the outside of the church which just smelt a bit damp
why all the recordings of crypts or haunted places have this horizontal waves? i aam watching a lot of paranormal videos and when i see this pattern i can bet a lot of money that someone is there but we cant see and his energy is interffering with the technology, what is your thoughts?

@@annewren8845 I don't think you're being rude Ann :) I guess it depends on your beliefs, In my own opinion the people's spirit has left their body, I don't believe the spirit would be disturbed by people talking and starring at their remains
@@annewren8845 I dont think visiting the graves, disturbs their r.i.p. I think its respect to visit graves to show we haven't forgotten them. Vandalism, grave robbing is the only thing in MY OPINION WOULD DISTURB THEIR REST IN IN PEACE. HOPE SOMEBODY VISIT ME WHEN IM GONE!
