The Decepticons create an experimental weapon and they plan to use it against the Autobots. But the Decepticons are the least of their worries. The monstrous Chaos has awakened and Kup must overcome his fears of this ferocious beast to help his friends destroy the Decepticons' new weapon.

Ironhide would have probably toughened up rodimus and got him out of his emo

Nice characterization for Kup. He wasn't perfect and, in his fear, abandoned the slave robots. Glad he eventually found redemption. Transformers, what a great series!
His reward: Grimlock wants to hear another war story from Kup...at everyone else expense.
It was a pretty nice touch to give "young" Kup his toy's color scheme.
Didn't notice that.
The animation in this episode is almost Movie quality..if only 5 faces and the rest of the series looked like this.
Call of the primatives has the best quality

CotP has more gloss effects which helps accentuate the fact Transformers are made of metal. You see it a little in this ep with Grimlock
Also a lot of shots are dynamically drawn in CotP, like posterworthy. Good example is when the Dinobots start their ambush.
This one here is just a decently done regular ep, with an above average story.
Toei worked on a couple of episodes on Season 3 which is why some episodes look better than the rest
Cracking animation quality, Kup's toy colours, and one of the very few instances of Grimlock's robot mode in S3...makes you wonder what the rest of the season and S4 would have looked like if TOEI took the reins instead of AKOM.
The Rebirth would've still been garbage not matter what the animation looked like.
Fun fact: when Predaking's animation model was being done, the toy's head was on backwards, that's why he appears to have no face in a lot of shots.

I just realized the cannon Galvatron is using is the same animation model Megatron had back in the episode Masquerade, but scaled larger.

As weird Season 3 can get taking things more in space (which is actually more fitting for space alien robots), there are some really great episodes.
Blurr has some of the best moments in this episode. But I love how this is a solid episode revolving around Kup overcoming the demon from his past.
I love this episode, and I super-love Grimlock here. The transitions between Kup's storytelling in the past and his stance when back in the present is awesome. The big baddie Chaos was a letdown. All it does is stomp on the ground, stand there, growl, take swipes at Kup and chase after him.
The only thing I like about him is his design, he looks like a space Godzilla with canine/feline like features
At least the great rescue and a grand escape is epic for me! 😁

Chaos looks like a Green Space Godzilla version of Metlar from Inhumanoids. I wonder if Chaos has any relation to them since they are both Hasbro and Sunbow.
i love how at 1645 sky links knocks over the predcons , they fall and they play a sound of a bolwing ball knocking down pins, that was hilarious
A few outdated character models show up in some random episodes, but i think this was the only time it was actually intentional. The young version of Kup seen in this episode was based on Floro Dery's original design for the character, which is what his G1 toy was based on.
I really like This episode is a great moment for kup
I had to keep replaying 20:31 it was the most satisfying defeat in the series
I love the "Junkbots" a whole civilization that speaks television...

Sky-lynx is the wildest looking transformer I've ever seen.

This episode is primarily composed of a bunch of the background characters which is cool - Galvatron being the only primary and only in it briefly.
I would have never thought to see Blastoff acting on his own like that
I wished both Kup & Ironhide had interaction with one another since they're both older Autobots
Grimlock is such an inecent creature of light
This is by far my fav G1 episode. I'm a huge Kup fan and S3 is the coolest!
I love Kup! His spotlight comic in IDW is truly epic too.
Galvatron: Predacons, Merge To Become Predaking!
For a G1 episode the animation is pretty good!
if only the entire season 3 had this animation.
Chaos bares some resemblance to Kraid from Metroid. The only difference is that he has canine/feline like features.
Grimlock actually seemed smart in this one
More so childlike, and of course he reallly smartens up later to build the Technobots, lol! 🤓

Sergeant Kup should have became the new Autobot leader instead of Rodimus Prime because he's one of the oldest Autobots, he was at least a war hero, and he even managed to vanquish an alien monster in this episode

Yeah, I found that strange. I thought Galvatron and the Decepticons wanted to reconquer Cybertron, not destroy it. Sure, Galvatron's nuts but you think he'd aim for Earth instead to eliminate Humanity and with it, one of the Autobot's key allies.

Even Cobra Commander attempted to blow up Earth with the Mass device when things didn’t go his way. Let’s not also not forget Rodimus blowing up Sandstorm’s planet after saving everyone. That was so random and extreme. 😳
The commercial break in the middle is, I think, the only time I've seen Ultra Magnus transporting other vehicles.
It’s actually other times for example he gave sandstorm a ride in his debut episode

So crazy. I remember watching this episode for the first time back in ‘86 and heading outside to play right at the point when blur fell into the quick mud.
No one's ever seen Chaos and lived to tell about it. But Kup has seen him and ran.

Close so close. There was a new Thundercats cartoon and toy line in the early 2000s. It was pretty bad ass, but eventually dropped after some Lego toy deal didn’t solidify. There should be some clips on yet and full episodes on prime. The early 2000s He-Man was awesome, too. There was a build up for a great three way war with Hordak, Skulletor and King Hiss that never took place during the end of the series. The figures were updated nicely and bad ass, too. 😭

It's the first appearance of Decepticon Battlecharger Runamuck riding atop Blast Off in the series.
Noone that Kup hangs out with can talk correctly. Poor dude.
This episode only aired one time where I lived. One time! It's a badly neglected episode to be sure.
It's one of, if not the most beautifully animated episodes in the entire series and has a great story but hardly gets a mention from the fan base..much better than COTP animation imo.
@@TF80s Agreed; the animation is a lot less stiff overall. COTP may have more stylish use of color, but the animation budget was really showing its problems by that point.
6:04 - It was always going to be too expensive to give Blurr the same 'echo' effect he had in the Movie, but it was nice to see it here at least for a sec.

What was so awesome about Kup. He was a season warrior who saw so much. Many times he made mistakes but here he got to correct one. Freed the slaves he wasn’t able to centuries ago and finally took out chaos.

Predacons are awesome. They are swift and agile. Too bad Predaking fights for the Decepticons.
Much like the Terror cons, It was never explained why they were originally with the Quintessons but had Decepticon symbols.
I accidentally taped only the first half of this episode from the 80s so have only seen the first half of this episode until blurr gets stuck in the mud...the year is 2023 and i have just watched the whole episode for the first time....i got chills...this was one of the best transformers episodes i have seen
is it strange that the Decepticons seem to be way less of a threat in Season 3 then they have been in the past 2 seasons? they were always trying to steal resources to one up the Autobots now their just trying to make these strange weapons and focus on survival.
I think it was because they were defeated on Earth and after Unicron (The Movie) they fled Cybertron to Chaar which was another great defeat. Having an insane leader didn't help either, Galvatron was nuts compared to his Megatron persona.

With galvatron missing and starscream and shockwave dead the cons had nobody qualified toead plus they was weak on energon
The quints became the main villains
The Decepticons resorted to making superweapons to gain an edge over the Autobots as they were at a big disadvantage after the movie in numbers so they resorted to desperate means to win and even survive.
It's sort of like how late in WW2, the Germans desperately resorted to using fancy superweapons like V1/V2 rockets and advanced experimental tanks to try to hold off the Allied armies which of course failed.
Blurr kind of sounds like Eminem sometimes!
