    I really appreciate the thoughtful videos and this topic in particular - however, the background clicks and music are really distracting. I really like that the tool shows you what it's doing, that's super helpful and I think makes it easier for those of us who enjoy the editing process but also find it overwhelming. I'll be testing this out for sure!

    Jason please, please , please take note of the comments below re the background music and other sound and visual effects, they are SO annoying. I watched your livestream on 4o and there were no effects or music and it was excellent, made it so much easier to follow. Your voice on this video is currently fighting to be heard above what sounds like a jazz party ... I can't understand why you would want to do this. Thanks. 6:42 in and about to leave thanks to the background noise. :(

    The video corollary to the axiom “write in simple language” must be “don’t give in to gimmicky sound effects”.

  • @oreycrounk9503
    @oreycrounk9503 4 месяца назад +6

    The clicking and dinging sounds are quite distracting. To the point that it becomes difficult to follow what you're saying because I'm constantly diverting my attention to see what is going on in the foreground (your voice actually becomes secondary to the constant sound effects).

    I'm new here. I think your content is good. Sound effects should be used at a minimum. You are overusing it! This distracts us from the message. Positive critique here. If you want to use the clicking sound or some type of effect, make it rare in each video so then your point comes forward more. Please respond with your thoughts.

    The mountain title cards are too frequent, and the clicking is distracting.
    The title kind are also in the way of close captioning, which is an extra hassle for me as a neurodivergent person who needs close captioning on.
    I get that you're having fun with your editing software, but it's really Instrumental to my ability to consume your content

    Thanks for sharing. I've used Haiku for some developmental editing, but as you said, it's not really very good at editing. It has helped save me money, but I very much need a human editor. For the AI portion of editing that you're showing with this tool, what I've done in the past is to tell Opus "You are an expert editor and author, and you're excited about helping me improve my novel. Rewrite the following text to improve flow and readability."
    This tends to work fairly well. I definitely have to modify what it gives me, but it's a huge improvement over what Sonnet gives me from my scene beats in NC.

    I've been using DeepL for translation for years. Used it to translate my entire novel from English to Japanese. Never tried it for editing though. I will now though! Thanks Jason!
    I like your point about translations. I understand a lot of Japanese, but I can tell you DeepL's translations (while good) are stiff and unnatural alone, especially when it comes to dialogue. I combined it with custom prompts in Claude and my own translation experience to do my entire book in under a month. (Video on my channel explaining the process).
    And yes, translating your own writing is a great way to learn the language fast!

      How much would it cost to hire a Japanese translator to translate a novel? And where would you find one?

  • @timeship
    @timeship 2 месяца назад

    FYI, I used an AI editor, then uploaded the edited story into another and another, and ALL of them are editing and re-editing each other. Why? Because they ALL are trained by people who have their personal preferences about syntax and word choice. Consequently, so far, there is NO truly "intelligent" AI out there, only simulated intelligence or rather semi-intelligence. That said, millions of writers can't afford to pay $5,000 for editing. Do you know how many copies they need to sell to cover that cost? This is like going into "student debt" by borrowing money for college and then paying it off a year before retirement. Ouch! Well, the "truly intelligent AI" is coming in a few years, but for now, it's just a snail in the horse race, ridden by "predator editors," as the writer's slang goes. Meanwhile, keep on writing and pay the bills with unedited novels or sell balcony-grown tomatoes. Godspeed and never give up.

    @TheNerdyNovelist unfortunately Deepl is only available in certain countries. Funnily enough, in Africa they are available in the Ivory Coast and Morocco and not in South Africa which has a much larger writing community.😢😢 I don't know if you can find out why. I want to use them for translation.

  • @Weyoun06

    Thank you for showcasing DeepL in an editorial role - really had no clue it could do that.
    But speaking of editing: please return to your old style of video editing....the clicking and the buzzing and the font bling-ing is really not suitable for your channel. Your audience is probably already mature and doesn't need attention-hooking every couple seconds. In fact - all these "fancy" editing techniques are a detriment to conveying your valuable information.
    I guess you have outsourced your video-editing...so just tell the editor to stop it or find someone else ;-)
    It would really, really make my heart swell with new adoration for your work 🙂

    Reminds me quite a bit of QuillBot, in its dual functionality of rewriting phrases and/or choosing different words/expressions, except that QuillBot has a few more tone mods plus a basic “Custom” one. Also EditGPT in how it generally marks the corrections, though EditGPT has gotten quite ahead in flexibility of editing and custom prompting.
    P.S: And yes, please, off with the clicks. The background music I can take, it’s mild, but the sound effects…

    I have used the hemingway editor and grammarly in the past. Still, had to rely more on my own editing in order to maintain a story that flowed like I wanted. The translation tools are pretty cool but it would probably still be better to have a native speaker go over to make sure it works.
