Ironically it might be more believable if she spoke English with an accent. Her English is simply too perfect, like she learned Received Pronunciation from an English private school.
“Endless things our children can enjoy” coming from a kid ?? Ana adult wrote that and she memorized it. A child would never say “our children” when they ARE a child
When a former NK is surprised seeing what’s in Pyongyang, it really shows how so privilege people are in the city rather than the rural area. Her reactions are real😅I was also shocked because not to boost or anything but in my country, mostly everyone knows what’s in the capital of the city. For example, a popular tourist place, theme parks or even shopping malls. If you’re from the rural area or village, when people ask where do you wanna go, we will often say the popular place in the city. It’s not just for the high-ups and rich people, but everyone around the country. I hope NK resident will have the same freedom and benefits in the future if their country regulation changes.
From my understanding North Korea doesn’t have freedom of movement. You can’t just go a visit or move to Pyongyang you have to go through paperwork and be approved.

Heart pounding with excitement to go to children hospital. Shows one wall and then pans to a small child next to another wall. Where’s the staff patients visitors? The wall they showed looks like a green screen.
I taught English in South Korea for years where they did these weird “speech contests”. Children would memorise weird and awkward English scripts and have absolutely no clue what they were saying. They’d then go up on stage and “compete” with who “spoke” the best English… this sounds EXACTLY like that.
"My heart was pumping with the desire to visit the Okryu Children's Hospital" "There are lots of places our children can enjoy" Bffr, no kid would ever talk like that. Por exmplo: todos muito junto ou seja um amontoado de construções. As cidades norte coreanas, a impressão que dá, é que elas são mais respiráveis, limpas e sem toda aquela poluição visual de propagandas/marketing....
I honestly feel sorry for all North Koreans. We had the same regime, I even remember wearing those ugly red scarfs as a kid. You know what we did? We made revolution and now we have democracy. I don't understand why they are so obeying, while they could be thriving, like their neighbours. There is millions of them vs one tyrant and few soldiers ... it's worth of the freedom!
Honestly... I feel like because Syngnam Rhee got deposed rather quickly, the spark of democracy persisted for years. Park Chung-hee didn’t rule that long compared to the first Kim and got removed rather abruptly, which plunged the country into chaos, and his successor Chun Doo-hwan took over in a military coup - perfect recipe for lingering resentment among pro-democracy people. The dictators in the South also neither established a clan-based government nor went for a personality cult like Kim Il-Sung and his descendants. That's just my opinion as an observer from the outside, so correct me if I am wrong
We all learned british english in school but movies and songs influenced us more 😅 Not sure what North Korea is trying to achieve with this weird staged video though...Also, doubt any foreigner would believe this..

I don't think many foreigners are falling for the North Korea propaganda. It's so unlike anything else on RUclips. It's almost like they don't watch RUclips enough to know what a real video should look like, so theirs all look like something you'd expect a home video to look like, circa 1984. They're very dated. And their water park video is just weird. At 5:20 you can see about 20 businessmen in the background of a pool. Um . . . get out of the shot if you want this to come across as realistic.
Song-Ah's 1st video sounds like the script was lifted wholesale and adapted from the Queen's Christmas Greetings! 😅 The rest, her delivery is so stilted, probably because she's trying so hard to not mess up the script… Hyunkyung saw right through it of course, but her nostalgia for General Seome was cute. I really hope Hyunkyung doesn't believe we Westerners buy into DPRK propaganda -- we usually just laugh at it. I almost feel bad for Song-ah… almost.
As an English person, you can tell her "accent" is a faked one, it's someone putting on the accent, clearly acting and reading a script as you said. It's the same as you'd hear from someone in USA pretending to do an English RP accent. All very forced. No one who learns English from a young age sounds like that.
The Queen did speak like that from a young age, but of course her circumstances were literally unique. No one else speaking English natively sounds like that. RP is basically dead anyway.
Personal experience as a foreigner speaking in RP: I feel like my RP tends to flatten a bit and becomes more fluid when I speak in it for a longer period of time. I first sound posh, but it quickly disappears when I get more confident with the language.

I guess that's the reason these videos aren't accessible in South Korea; they're trying to soften the viewpoints of South Koreans about North Korean that distracts from the overlying issues about North Korea.
"The Bizarre World of North Korean Influencers" by fern
I would’ve closed the video after the little girl said “our children” because aren’t *you* a child too!?
In america, our commercials who use children always have them represent themselves and others like them as “we”, emphasizing that they are a child representing the product.
She’s talking like an older man gave her a script, made her memorize siri speaking the script, then reproduce it on camera over and over again. I saw no emotion in the part where she was supposedly excited :,(
her english is very good, but it’s sad since she obviously being forced in some way (i say in some way because i don’t know her exact situation, it could be coercion or something else), it’s clear that she’s reading from a script since she’s just advertising north korea and isn’t speaking like an 11 year old kid (both in tone and language)
It's really sad that an 11-year-old got forced into this propaganda business and this fact alone speaks volumes about the NK regime.
For any advertising strategy, there will always be a script, no matter the county... What a stupid speculation
but you know what is more stupid? The fact they have to do the script or they'll die or face a penalty of having generations of their family punished for one kids misconduct/disobedience to their fake idol.
@@hyrachine8573 I don't think it works like that... There are too many fake news about North Korea. Certainly, it's not the best place to live if you don't belong to the Elite. But there are other horribles places where life is tough as well, for example Latinamerica, where I come from, in my country kids die from starvation inthe poor areas, it is too violent, you always feel unsafe, too much crime. In the Philippines, some poor people eat from rubbish, the leftover of the restaurants, etc.
@@hyrachine8573 probably North Korea is not the best place in the world to live if you don't belong to the Elite. But I don't think this girl is being forced to advertise her country. It doesn't need to be North Korea just because of the communist regime. Almost all Countries in Latin America are capitalists and you can't imagine how horrible is living in those countries, there's a lot of poverty, violence and corruption in there, in my country which is in South America, there are also children dying by starvation, lots of social leaders are murdered every year for defending their territories there is so much violence in there. In Asia, specifically in The Phillipines, there are communities that eat the leftover food from the rubbish bins, in Africa a lot of starvation and violence as well...
No North Korean girl ever had a bedroom that looked like that.....
Well she probably does, but it's not an average kid's bedroom and most NK kids dont have that. As was said, in North Korean context she is privileged so she (allegedly) read Harry Potter and gets to go to the water park etc.
(It was only her third time there tho... Idk if she goes to another indoor pool or if one even exists. For my nieces going to "the swimming hall" is a weekly thing, so they've gone countless times in their life. 😅 It was the same for me in 1990s-2000s. And we're not rich and werent & arent in the capital, so there's the vast difference to average North Korean life.)
As she explained the the video, this girl is the daughter of one of the most wealthy families in Pyongyang... one of the most privileged kids in the country. i dont find it hard to believe she has a room like that. Her family is one of the top of the top...
@@p1kkuma Maybe she's the daughter of the minister or esteemed general or something like that.
Except her...and her friends, maybe
OMG. Even poor families that I knew growing up in the USA had it better than the richest kids in NK. Mind blowing stuff.
She’s so beautiful. I love her red sweater over the shoulders like we did back in the 80s. Looks so preppy and stylish.
It is a school style for NK, I think
Ironically it might be more believable if she spoke English with an accent. Her English is simply too perfect, like she learned Received Pronunciation from an English private school.
11:22
that expression, those emotions, are golden
02:36 Extremely thick British accent when she say " go". I can't believe people buying this.
Just had a quick look on google maps, that water park looks like it hasn't been open since they filmed that video.
I have a feeling they only open it up during special days of the year. There simply isn't enough privileged families in NK to run it daily.
@@sanseverything900 True. I also have a feeling, looking at the satellite photos, it might have been winter when the photo was taken.
Shes got a very posh old english accent most english accents don’t sound like this unless its london based and it’s an old person. Its like the accent Americans think we have however we haven’t spoke this way in years and only older posh british people sound like this little girl.
Take David Attenborough. He speaks in RP and it doesn't sound unnatural. Emotion, I think, is the key: even older British people wouldn't speak like this girl.
7:42 I don't think anyone besides a few metally challenged western people think that's what North Korea is like!
To be fair, had I not learnt about north korea in school I might not know the real conditions. There might also be people who look at this and go 'wow it's changed!' thinking its gotten better. Sadly sometimes people struggle to conceptualise that something so horrible is still happening today
When I try to wrap my head around NK and all of its propaganda, I do find it mentally challenging. That country and its politics and all is like, man, do what.
I'm from Malaysia. We all know North Korea's true circumstance. No matter how much they sent out these videos, we, the foreigners are not that dumb. No children would speak or act like that. She looks like she's making videos for a school project. These videos are basically laughingstock for us foreigners. Not towards the children, but towards the government of North Korea, with their play pretend "fun park".
Hyunkyung is so beautiful !!! 😍🥰❤🥰😍
North Korea is opening their borders for tourists again in December 2024, so maybe that's why they're showing this to Western people as well.
I'll tell my socialist nephew about it maybe he would want to move there
@@Willowspovthink your nephew would prefer countries with actual socialist principles like Norway or Denmark
@@inshort6831no he said "F" capitalism in defense to when I was talking about North Korea.. because the cry baby doesn't want to work or go to college....

Her voice is satisfying
When I first heard about this youtube video of vlogs in NK, I was shocked since months ago I read an article about having no internet there or any access to any form of media aside from the state’s own media.
I think you watching to much propaganda video.
What I love the most about these propaganda vlog channels is the idea of they thinking the west will believe it's all natural.
Honestly a lot of older people probably do. They believe everything online.
When you live in a country where everyone has to pretend and buy others' lies, you think people outside would do the same.
Hyunkyung is so precious☺
You've got these liars having this girl say how positive it is there, then the liars like Yeonmi Park exaggerating the negative aspects for book sales. I'm glad this girl tells the truth.
Yeonmi is worse. She spreads capitalist pro American propaganda
Yeonmi isnt a liar
@@LovelyLeeFelix look at what she says about America
exaggerating? there are so many escapees from NK with her experience
…she did say “First time to say about myself”,“Where our children can enjoy”,“harmony of your family” tho,I meaaannn😅
Fascinating. Very clearly carefully directed and scripted. I do wonder why DPRK would bother going to such extremes with the current global situation. It seems like a lot of effort to me.
It's an old video.
Her language skills makes me wonder if she is the daughter of a diplomat and has been one of the few trusted families to have been sent overseas, and then brought back
No need, there's English education within the country as well. Usually some children of elites that can later act as tour guides and interpreters, but now apparantly also to act as propaganda mouthpieces on youtube
Part of her Accent went South African 😂
Damn can’t believe I’ve seen this so fast lol, the moment I’ve heard abt the waterpark..bruh u can really tell this video was made as a propoganda.
This girl Hyunkyung is so interesting. She's charismatic and has led such an interesting life
Heart pounding with excitement to go to children hospital. Shows one wall and then pans to a small child next to another wall. Where’s the staff patients visitors? The wall they showed looks like a green screen.
I was raised watching Boy General....lol😂😂😂😂
I would love to see her react to a north korea vlog filmed by those one of those foreigner tourist groups
She probably is the daughter of a high ranking official and attending private school in britain.
I so love your voice :) Soothing and energetic in the same time
She has a better british accent than me…..a brit.
That's how great north Korea is
I taught English in South Korea for years where they did these weird “speech contests”. Children would memorise weird and awkward English scripts and have absolutely no clue what they were saying. They’d then go up on stage and “compete” with who “spoke” the best English… this sounds EXACTLY like that.
"My heart was pumping with the desire to visit the Okryu Children's Hospital"
"There are lots of places our children can enjoy"
Bffr, no kid would ever talk like that. And in the entirety of the video, poor girlie barely managed to fake a smile or two, she looks as if she's being held at gunpoint (and she sort of is). Like, what kid would ever wanna visit the hospital for no reason other than to look at the stickers and paintings of cartoon characters on the walls? And what child do y'all know that would refer to other children her age with "our children".
I’m American. Born and raised in New York. We know North Korea is NOT like the images she showed in the video, and that this was fake. I’m certain she’s on a set and she is a child actor for the government. My heart breaks for her. She’s probably so scared.
Fortunately, many Americans know the truth about North Korea. We don’t know much, but we know they are bad.
At least they didn't kill millions of people all around the world in the name of freedom democracy
You admit yourself you don't know anything; yet you are very sure of yourself
That's alright. We all know the US isn't like the propaganda show on television either.
@@AB-bd4cs i pray for your literacy skills. Please highlight where I said I know nothing. I admitted Americans are not completely aware of the atrocities of NK but Americans do acknowledge their poor treatment of humans. Nowhere did I state my independent level of knowledge on the subject. It’s highly logical to be sure NK is objectively a bad place.
@@samil5601 Yup. Everywhere has propaganda. I’m not sure what you see in other countries, but I’m curious what the US presents itself as to non-americans.
Her phone is not filming
She is so pretty!!
This is below average for Korea.
@@jessicaregina1956 If you mean that from the perspective of Korea's beauty standards, then yeah, probably. I actually prefer Hyunkyung, though. Prettier than most idols, anyways.
@@jessicaregina1956 No it's not, and at least Hyunkyung is real -- K-pop beauty standards are a lie and you bought into it just like they wanted you to.

@@jessicaregina1956 No, those are girl with plastic surgery or intense makeup. But girl here is definitely natural beauty.
I loved this video ❤
She sounds like that early 1900s video of Chinese princess speaking in English
A single look at a recent satellite photo of the Korean peninsula at night is enough to debunk it all.
I dont know how people fall for these so easily, it was the same when Yeonmi park's youtube channel was blowing up and so many people bought into everything she said
Hi just found your channel and just subscribed ❤🥳
4:03 Honestly, she's better of being a Peppa Pig voice actor
The girls reactions are very sincere! I don’t feel like she’s acting and I like her commentary. She is the best guest I’ve seen so far :)
The problem here is that they are comparing life in North Korea with life in Pyongyang. The situation is very different from the rest of the country, and there are indeed many luxuries in Pyongyang. Munsu Water Park is indeed quite impressive.
Basically, NK is like the hunger games
That child has no soul behind her eyes. It's sad.
The reactor is so pretty
1:56 the Teemo laugh i cant :,D
It’s like the camera was stuck on macro the whole time to make sure we don’t accidentally see the dystopic nightmare behind the curtain.
2:11 “endless things where OUR CHILDREN…” just for that sentence u know it’s a script made by some adults
Kid sounds like Hermione Granger. Perfect Queen's english. Are we supposed to believe she's born and bred in North Korea??? 😂😂
My brain isn't fast enough to keep up.
9:05
Okay. They either raised the girl as living propaganda material or used different children to portray her at different stages of life.
the coconut tree height measuring thing on the wall at 4:39, I had the exact same when I was young :0 like exact same, not similar
You should look through the comments of propaganda videos from NK. You'd be surprised how many people are in awe and actually get fooled.
I went in north korea in 2016 and I recognized the 빙수‘s spot. It is a real one, it’s near the central university. I used to go there to have some.

It is still a country for those who were born there and live there, and we should respect this. What we should not tolerate is the awful government/state leader(s) behind the awful dictatorship and human rights violations.
don't worry, most if not all westerners do understand that North Korea is lying 😭
Right unless one is super ignorant. This is the one think like 99.9% of westerners know. North Korea is lying about everything. 😂
The grand father of this girl is a general. We can see her on some official Pictures. She leaved in London for a White.
Always interesting to hear opinions from North Koreans about their own country
That poor girl is probably forced to live in isolation for the mere fact she even knows about the existence of Harry Potter
Actually the Harry Potter books are one of the few Western series allowed there oddly enough
The way her comment is so brilliant 🎉
her accent is good but that must be because she has a 'good' tutor for her. but her story telling is rather like a textbook instead a real conversation, so i done believe it😅
I love this girl! She’s got a great personality
I was thinking she may have been swatting at an insect when she hit her face.
That young lady is a joy to behold. Very happy she escaped.
Wait, she did? If so, I hope she’s doing alright. It’s usually never easy for anyone who manages to escape North Korea.
The thing is this works. Theres a lot of people that seem to believe those videos and its really difficult to convince those people otherwise.
Hen Gen is very beautiful
I don't think many foreigners are falling for the North Korea propaganda. It's so unlike anything else on RUclips. It's almost like they don't watch RUclips enough to know what a real video should look like, so theirs all look like something you'd expect a home video to look like, circa 1984. They're very dated. And their water park video is just weird. At 5:20 you can see about 20 businessmen in the background of a pool. Um . . . get out of the shot if you want this to come across as realistic.
5:18 This is a famous park, yet it's completely empty! I could never get a shot this clear on any street here in Brazil, no matter the time of day
Because the water park is so big and enormous…” 😂 alright we get it
Song-Ah's 1st video sounds like the script was lifted wholesale and adapted from the Queen's Christmas Greetings! 😅
The rest, her delivery is so stilted, probably because she's trying so hard to not mess up the script… Hyunkyung saw right through it of course, but her nostalgia for General Seome was cute. I really hope Hyunkyung doesn't believe we Westerners buy into DPRK propaganda -- we usually just laugh at it. I almost feel bad for Song-ah… almost.
She's so pretty
she is so pretty i love her haircut omg
She was clearly educated abroad
i do have a question as to how she watched that cartoon because she said that they didn't have access to electricity
it's not that they didn't have electricity. during the shaved ice part, she mentioned that it was weak. so just most likely they had blackouts, etc. can still watch TV but periods of time where they had no electricity.
"My favorite book is Harry Potter. I've never actually been allowed to read it and this is the first time I've ever even seen it but I bet it's your favorite book too."
I can assure her, MOST, if not all 'foreigners' know the videos are fake lol.
I don't think that phone was even on when D:
