The crew shirts you showed navy where it rests on the collar bone then army where it rests on the neck. Do these two collar designs have different names? I cant find shirts where they rest on the neck.
My father wore that exact Cartier watch, when he passed away i took it & stored it somewhere.. Now 30 years later iam older & i would like to wear it, but I cant remember where i hid it..
@@duva593 yeah its something like that, i know put it in a box, inside another box..then there is my mother who shifted stuff around abit.. Sooner or later ill find it 😊
Hey Marine, I know the Corp didn't let you guys wear these but I still have my Tanker Boots and desert boots made by Dehner, the same company that made boots for Patton. Although you talk about wearing "v" neck undershirts, I still wear the crewneck as I did in the Army under my dress and casual shirts. Happy Birthday Marine, and Semper Fi!!!
I’m Dutch, didn’t know about the woollen ‘peacoat’ deriving from a Dutch word ‘pij’ for wool. We call ‘pij’ the garment that monks wear. Looked it up, and yes!! The monks habit is in fact crude wool. And to my surprise: there is in fact a Dutch word ‘pij-jekker’ (jekker=jacket): ‘woollen double breasted jacket worn by sailors.’ Wonderful to learn that through you, Anton!
Excellent video. I bought a naval peacoat from a former US Navy officer (through Ebay) who had only been stationed in hot weather parts of the world... I think it came from Texas. Unworn! $70. It gets me tons of compliments. Fits like it was made for me. Pewter buttons. Looks like a million bucks, and warm enough for the coldest Canadian winter days and nights. 1000x better than any department store copies... just buy the genuine article!
Besides the Cartier watch, I own all of these articles of clothing. My time in the Navy was worth it, just for the tailored peacoat lol. I've been turning heads with that since 2015. And in Chicago, when you wear anything just to stay warm, you stand out real quick in these babies. On that note, when I graduated RTC, all of my Navy SEAL wannabe shipmates grabbed those G-shock watches. But I grabbed me a Seiko SNK 803. Needless to say, yet another time I stood out...
Love aviator jackets had one until till I completely wore it out....want another one...this time with it painted on the back honoring a particular plane a relative of mine flew.
Fun fact: In german necktie is called Krawatte which is spelled identical as Krawatt just without the „e“ at the end. Highly researched Antonio as usual, love the video 😊✌🏼🇦🇹
Hey South African here, to look up more on the history of the desert boot and why SA troops had these boots, look at the Veldskoen and it's history back to the boer war Era, and what the boer guys were using. These shoes were made then originally for farm use and trekking, and then shifted over to subsequent military and civilian use. Redemption leather based out side of Cape Town South Africa, still manufactures the original design from the boer war. These then changed slightly into their use in North Africa and throughout Africa during WWI. This period, particularly their use in Namibia and in the African Bush with our Park Rangers and hunters at the time, will also highlight the shift to the use of nubuck on the boot. Then for WW2 is as you have highlighted.
Love the clothes history. Crew neck? Named after who wore these. So simple. Hope you have more history about where names for clothes come from. I did know the history of a couple of your items, but it's so cool to learn more.
The trench coat during WW1 with the gas mask was the MOPP (military operational protective posture) suit of the time. This all means that it was all they had to protect themselves from mustard gas and other chemical warfare weapons.
Hey Antonio I really enjoyed this video! It was the perfect blend entertaining and educational. I just came back from speaking at a gaming convention and I was wondering if you could do a video on clothing style in the final fantasy games series. The creators and players are really into fashion especially the players of final fantasy 14 Some other great examples are: balthire(final fantasy 12) Cloud Strife (final fantasy 7) Squall Lionheart (final fantasy 8) And the entire main cast of final fantasy 15
Interesting piece. Two small details; the original trench coat had a slit on the left side so that the officer could access his sword, and today, the pea coat is meant to tne worn with the collar up.
Hi Antonio, You were in Croatia, right? Well in there airport, there is history heritage concerning ties (Cravats) that were worn first by croatian militairy or police back in the days and were observed by Frech diplomats or soldiers and it was transported in rest of Europe. But, first time, it was worn by Croats,
Just wanted to give an update on my thrift store shopping:) got some pretty decent items unfortunately not everything but several must haves like 2 long sleeve Formal dress shirts, a sweater, zip up fleece jacket, and a few polos everything within $4-6.Going to save up a bit more then hopefully someday I can return but was a really good experience.I plan on ordering a couple pairs of brown leather shoes 1 penny loafer and the other either Wingtips or Derby's not sure which of those you'd recommend but as always appreciate your input.
I read that mens wristwatches was used first under WW1. And it was simply a leatherstrap or a leather holster which I believe is the correct words and you put a pocket watch in it.
Currently 'Wellingtons' covers two distinctly different articles of footwear which evolved from the Duke's original specs. For the normal civilian in the UK it refers to high, rubber, water proof, slip on boots (as you showed briefly) also called gum boots etc. One sees these on a stereotypical Yorkshire farmer. For the army, a Wellington boot is a well-made, leather, pointed toe, slip on boot worn with formal dress with trousers known as 'overalls' - stirrupped snug, high-waisted trousers. Most often worn with formal messkit dress (military uniform black tie). Most regiments have their officers wear the same 'overalls' in messkit and as part of No 2 ceremonial dress - blue patrols (a uniform that looks similar to the blues the USMC wear). In cavalry regiments, the Wellingtons are worn with spurs. Some regiments (the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers for example) prefer to wear George boots instead of Wellingtons. George boots have some minimal lacing above the ankle as opposed to being slip on.
Cargo shorts were inspired during the Persian Gulf War. 'Under Armor' tee shirts came about approximately during the GWOT. The list is endless for men's fashion being started by the military.
The Jaeger Lecoultre Reverso wrist watch was made for British Army Officers serving in India. They can reverse the case of the watch to protect the face from the dust in polo matches and common field duties. And is not the last military heritage. The Rolex Submariner was also designed for military divers (pre seals). And the Omega Moonwatch was selected to the space program. There are several photos with astronauts using mechanical watches over their spacesuits in space. All these three practical and not fashion watches are now luxury items. Who knows... in 50 years a sunto or a g-shock could be a luxury watch too !
@9:40 - The Gabardine is not just a trench coat. It is armor right? fabric, metal armor, and fabric. It looks like a canvas trench/london-fog coat, but your officers are armored.

In the U.S. Navy, crew necks were most often referred to as “gob” shirts. At the time, “gob” was a popular slang term for sailors in the Navy.
