    These were the days when Arsenal were my Arsenal! These days I'm so disconnected.
    That Merson goal against Leeds in the FA Cup at home 2-2, I remember losing my trainers in the clock end! Gr8 days!

      Gregg Lamb amazing how many feel the same!!.... ever since they left Highbury was the nail in the coffin... I’d love to see just how many late 80s/90s fans who were massive fans have completely become disenchanted with whatever they are now?!

      Gregg Lamb I'm a United fan and I was on the clock end for our game at Highbury that season a 1-0 win with sparky Hughes scoring the goal. Been to Highbury many times I remember the cup game in 87/88 when mcclair blazed a penalty over the north bank!!

      Same. The team back then were warriors. All would go to war for the badge. Nowadays they’re a bunch of overpaid, overrated pussies

    This ended up a memorable season but it was really the start of our decline under George. We had always been a direct side who liked to get the ball forward early but once we sold Rocky and dropped Limpar we just decided to launch it at every opportunity. In possesion the midfield might as well not have been on the pitch, they were just there to stifle the opposition and break the game down. Keown even played in there at times and the likes of Hillier, Selly, Jensen and Morrow were regulars on the teamsheet. 90% of this season was turgid and our league position was fully justified.

      It was unfair that Arsenal were called boring from 1986-1992 and undeserved but after 1992 it was totally deserved.

      @@alanberkeley7282 100% mate. Loved watching George`s early teams, 86-91 is one of my favourite periods following The Arse and I`ve been watching the cunts since 57. We scored 92 goals in 1992 and then he just lost the plot and decided to concentrate solely on stopping the opposition. We won a few Cups but they just masked how poor we`d become. After winning the league in 91 we really should have been a dominant force for the rest of the 90`s. Shame but its the story of our history I`m afraid. So many times we`ve had the chance to build a dynasty and blown it. The one time we got it right, mad Adolf fucked us.

      @@accountformelyknownasarsen3072 He lost his way after 1992, perhaps the back pass rule affected his tactics as well. The cup success of 1993 and 1994 basically papered over the cracks. The problem was he went defensive and got rid of or lost creative midfielders. By the time he was fired in 1995 he'd lost his way even if it hadn't been for the bung scandal, but he should always be remembered as being up there with Chapman and Wenger and for me deserves a statue or bust even allowing for the bung scandal or going to Spurs. The bung happened nearly 30 years ago now. It's time to move on. I think George should get recognition of what he did before he shuffles off this mortal coil. It was due to his back five and Wengers diet and change of training methods why Arsenal had success up to 10 years after Graham left Highbury. He never should have left Leeds who I think he could have even guided to a title or cup wins and gone to Spurs. That was a bad bad mistake.

    • @alanberkeley7282
      @alanberkeley7282 3 года назад +1

      Graham and Wenger were both brilliant managers who the club needed, both should be among the managerial greats. Graham in '86 and Wenger in '96 but both were flawed and both lost their way at the end.

    • @accountformelyknownasarsen3072
      @accountformelyknownasarsen3072 3 года назад +3

      @@alanberkeley7282 Yeah, I`d never slag George off. He was exactly what we needed when he arrived at the club but he definitely lost his way. I think he should have a bust alongside Chapman`s but probably not going to happen because of the way he left the club. He did inherit a great youth policy from Howe though and by the time he left he`d completely run that into the ground. As you say, him and Wenger were both flawed. Its a shame you couldn`t combine the two of them, that would make some fucking manger. Graham was one of the most tactically astute managers of all time and Wenger was a visionary.

    My dad took me to the Oldham game in the school holidays, my first home game. We’d been to Coventry away 4 times by then, but visiting Highbury for the first time was a magical experience.

    Arsenal won both the league and FA cups for the first time in the history of our club.
    Both Wright and Campbell on 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
    I loved it when Paul Merson taunted the Tottenham fans by coping what their Gascoigne did pretending his is drunk.
    O'Leary retring as a Gooner since 74-75 and beating George Armstrong' Arsenal appearances record of 722 74-75- 92-93.
    O'Leary winning two league titles, FA cup and two league cups for the Arsenal.

    Cole to Bristol City was dumb. Of course, it's all hindsight, plus there was always Alan Smith and Kevin Campbell, who obviously went on to both have much more impressive careers than Cole. I think Cole ended up left back for Chelsea or something...

    When you could watch footy without too much media rubbish you had the papers but nothing like it is now when it was a sport now it's a business I watch these season reviews and in some we are ripping man city to shreds or they ain't even in the league and now they are owned by a country

      This was the 92-93 season when the Premier League was launched and football transformed into a business and media enterprise. David Dein was central to that view as well. Everything that happened since in English football is an evolution of what started this particular year.
      Also Jack Walkers approach to Blackburn in this period was the first of the big owners just throwing money at a club. That was the template that Brought Chelsea success a decade later and evolved from there. You could trace most things back to this particular season if you think about it
