Would you go watch a plus-size ballet show? 🩰
No
no
Why not?
No
Because is not as pretty and romantic.
Honestly the diet and exercise aspect of this video is completely wrong. Not only do most thin dancers eat normal foods in normal amounts (probably more, actually) but it's also pushing the narrative that plus size dancers don't eat healthy when (speaking as a plus size dancer) that's normally not the case.
Where are these facts coming from? I’m a dancer, I train full time and I had a childhood and a great diet (we actually have to eat more to maintain fuel and energy) and I know loads of people who aren’t plus size but due to the muscle gained from training, are over 110 pounds- in fact, I’m heading that way if my muscles keep growing! Just mean the boys need to be stronger!😂💪🏽
As long as you’re flexible & you can hit the same moves as the other ballerinas…
why should it matter what size u are ?
It doesn't matter. That's the whole point. If you want to dance, do it. Should have to do nothing with other people's opinions. If they like to watch you, they do. If they don't, they don't. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, regardless of what society wants you to accept or not.
@@SuperNovaSirius that doesn't mean your opinion isn't fatphobic or bigoted.
Well how is someone supposed to lift you in the air when he can’t lift you?
The thing is that you can't do the same moves as skinny ballerina being a plus size. As a hobby - absolutely yes! Do it! But you can't make it you profession. That's life. You can't become a pilot if you're blind, you can't become a professional ballet dancer if you're overweight.
If you take it professional you just can't physically do the same moves. You will retire early because you will have a ton of knee and other issues. Because of the excess fat your lines won't show in a way that classical ballet requires.
Yes, she can keep up since she’s young but that weight is going to take a toll on her ankles.
'Why do they have to be so ABNORMALLY THIN'. Sorry, but being 50kg is not 'abnormally thin' on most bodies. Stop body shaming slim people if you want the same respect for the other side.
True that. All bodies are beautiful, and dancers come in all shapes and sizes.
@@zephielovet Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You can find a body beautiful or not, but beauty is not a factual thing. But if you want and can dance, do it. That has nothing to do with what other people think of your body.
@@SuperNovaSirius I was agreeing with you. Bodies come in all shapes and sizes from very thing to plus sizes. I don’t think anyone should be shamed for whatever their sized is.
@@zephielovet I know, but I was just pointing out 'all bodies are beautiful' os an odd statement, as beauty is in the eye of the beholder and thus can't be a fact. Just an opinion.
I think they didn't mean it like that. Ofcouse it is bosyshaming to say someone I too thin. But I think it is very unhealthy if you are like 175 cm and you have to weight 50 kg. That's pretty underweight and cold be unhealthy. But it's definitely also unhealthy to weight to much.
this wasn’t informative, and some of it was even wrong
I’m a dancer and he is pulling these facts out his ass
Im 31 and overweight. 3rd class was today. My teacher pulled me aside today and told me privately that Im one of the strongest in the class so far... no one is perfect. I am trying to lose weight. But in the meantime, its nice when people remember I deserve to be happy.
I came here to see if I should start ballet as an overweight person. But of course it's different to be overweight and an amazing dancer, and overweight and clumsy like me...
I still encourage you to try! I was a plus size (clumsy) adult beginner, and I actually got really far in my training and was actually on pointe pre covid. I'm working right now to get back on track.
@@zephielovet so it’s possible to be plus size and en pointe ? because i’m fat and started ballet a year ago, and i wanted to know if i could ever go en pointe (in a recreational context).
@@margxpct5987 yes! Pointe is about strength, not size. Find the right teacher that will support you and you'll be on your way.
I'm partially disabled but have enjoyed things like adaptive body surfing and was wondering if they have something similar in ballet.
This video is really inaccurate. I suggest doing more research
You can be fit or healthy at most any size or weight. She is excersizing in class at least 4 days a week. She may not be as flexible but she has just as much swiftness and control
You'd automatically reduce to the size easier to do ballet as you do ballet, after all body weight is never unconditional
@우크라이나산 흑토가 정말 질도 좋고 thats not really true. Lizzy has a brain disorder and her medication severely impacts her weight. Literally the definition of can't help it if you have to choose between fluid on your brain or being obese/overweight.
Cherub..an obese ballet dancer does not look good on the stage..ballet companies would lose money hiring fat obese dancers..they want beauty and grace..and fat is viewed as neither..and fat is insurance risks..get real.
I wonder what Balanchine would say.
How come there are no plus sz men dansers????
The part of ballet I like is the grace and beauty. Being obese ruins that.
let people live and exist in their own bodies without shame
If one slightly larger body "ruins" ballet for you... You should probably look into some new hobbies.
I agree. The other comments under this post are weird. Having an opinion should have nothing to do with fat people being able to dance or not. They can if they want to. But we don't have to like it, for them to do it. I agree that an excess of body fat ruins the graceful lines I like to see in ballet. That's an aesthetic opinion. I still want this girl to dance. I want her to do what makes her happy. But I also want the right to my own opinion. If she's strong, my opinion should not matter to HER motivation to dance.
@@zephielovet their body size is not “slightly” larger
@@ezaykyale1806 so?
Yes why not.
We think the same. All kinds of ballet are beautiful! 🙏
I hate the age thing, I started at 14 and I’m at the same level at the other guys (at a higher level than some)
This is bs, majority aren't abnormally thin. No one is starving themselves, imagine exercising 6 days a week all day, you're goma stay really lean.
I can tell that you only watched a few youtube videos and didnt do much actual research. This is not a good video and in no way tackles the nuanced and evolving topic of weight and body stereotypes in ballet. Its a real shame.
So love her very proud
I just turned 20 so im guessing my train passed by 😅😂
maby for being a professional but you could still do it for fun.
Never! You can start at any age
@@morriii. Any age? Even at 48???
@@Helena-ox7cr of course!
@@morriii. It must be dangerous at that age. The body is not the same after the menopause
The message was right the way it came out tho yikes😬
2:02 ooh damn who is she? She look so damn hot. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Her name is Thaina
@@zephielovet thank you, girl.
