    Here's the story behind the song "Fils de Joie":
    Stromae is not actually talking about his mom, he is playing different characters throughout the song. In the chorus he impersonates a man whose mom is a prostitute. In the 1st verse, he plays the client of that prostitute, in the 2nd verse, he is the pimp, and in the last verse, the policeman.
    Stromae said in an interview for Deezer that he watched a french TV show (called "ça commence aujourd'hui") where they interviewed mothers who had to go through prostitution and their children also speak in that interview I think. Stromae was touched by these women and wanted to write a song about that subject.
    The title literally means "Son of Joy" but it is a play on words. In french, "filles de joie" is an old fashioned way of saying "prostitutes". Filles de joie literally means "daughters of joy". Stromae took that and changed it to Fils de Joie, since he is talking about a man whose mom is a prostitute, and to refer to the insult "son of a whore".

    • @marjorieroman9591
      @marjorieroman9591 2 года назад +8

      True, "Santé" means both Cheers and health in french...but I bet that Stromae, clever as he is, did play precisely on both meanings...If you think of it, this song is a big "Cheers" to hard working people that usually nobody cares of , but that did reveal themselves essentials during the Covid Crisis...I'm sure Stromae is subtly tackling opinion through this play on word & meanings...

    • @chucku00
      @chucku00 2 года назад +2

      When Stromae sings "J'aimerais lever mon verre à ceux qui n'en n'ont pas", I'm pretty sure he's also talking about people who don't have good "santé" (health) in addition to people who dont have a glass.
      Also remember the new years vow "Bonne année, bonne santé", so "cheers" is really a diminutive translation of the term itself.

    Is it the first Dereck's full album review? If it's the case he really chose to start with some serious material... the only critique is Dereck should have switched to a Belgium T-shirt even if I'm French. Might be a good addition to the merch. Ah, these Frenchies, always finding something to criticize! ; )
    Looks like "solassitude" is a triple play on words ;
    - In English : to describe someone who is having frequent hookups without any emotional involvement
    - In French and English : feeling lonely while trying to give or get some solicitude
    About "Fils de joie", a "Fille de joie" (literally daughter of joy, or girl of joy in this case) is an old French term (quite unusual nowadays) to talk about a prostitute without saying it abruptly. The title s also a play on words mixing "fils de pute" and "fille de joie".
    "Multitude" is about the happiness and the issues of becoming a parent.

    This album is so dope. The only thing I disagree on is the last track. It's a 9. I'm a hip hop/rap fan, the flow, delivery, certain pockets he finds are simply satisfying despite me not speaking French and definetley grew on me. Basically he made the closer a trap song he could have more lyrical fun with. And it does have that goodbye vibe that it needs as a closing track.

    I'm not crazy about this new album...its depressing...I'm kind of fed up of every artist talking about their mental issues, it become like a must to do it in 2022...If I need depressing stuff, I check the news, I want my artist do what they are suppose to do: entertain me

    • @itsjvck1
      @itsjvck1 2 года назад +2

      I don’t think that’s a very mindful statement. You’re seeing a rising trend in people using music as an outlet to open themselves and to show their true selves. To have issues is to be human. We’re getting into a day and age where people feel more allowed to share their struggles, and I think that is a great, therapeutic thing. Also artists aren’t service workers. They’re people just like you and me, and to constrict them to only entertain goes against everything art represents

    Nul! Pas de quoi en faire des caisses pour ce type. Me demande bien ce qu'on lui trouve! Marre de l'entendre aussi sans arrêt! J'ai jamais rien acheté de lui et je comprends mieux pourquoi. Faut arrêter d'en faire des tonnes et c'est loin d'être un "chef d'oeuvre"! D'autres chanteurs même sans être (trop) connus méritent bien plus d'éloges que lui! Et avec bien plus de talent!

      cette album est loin de racine carré, qui lui, était un chef d’œuvre. J’ai trouvé celui-ci répétitif dans un sens et quelques chansons vont moins me chercher mais en général le message passé et les différentes cultures présenté font que c’est album est très bon, mais pas plus.
