European disease thing is a myth. According to modern research infamous Cocoliztli was probably some native disease, most likely some variant of Salmonella. Other epidemics bring by Europeans were far less severe (excluding Smallpox what was relevant only on early stage). Also despite the myth disease kill indiscriminately. The reason for disproportion in deaths were result of modern medicine and quarantines used by colonists.
Can you guys do one on the U.S.?
As a Brazilian, I believe I need the duty to make a list of all wrongs I find in this video to other viewers don't learn wrong.
1:41 - Tapuias is a Tupi word who means everyone who isn't Tupi, that means all other nation in the world. The correct is say Brazil have Tupi and Jê.
2:17 - Brazilian population before the discovery isn't smaller than Portugal, this happened after the disease spread.
2:57 - Have two states who were successful in this period, S. Vicent as said correctly in the video and Pernambuco. Pernambuco was truly successful by their own merit and S.Vicent were successful because receive a lot of money from the Portuguese crown to ensure Brazilians souths boarder.
3:17 - The animation gives the idea the Bandeirantes departs from all Brazil to the interior, but they always start the trip from S.Paulo, also they are called Paulists at the time, Bandeirantes is a recent term to refer to them.
3:37 - Rio de Janeiro was already called Rio de Janeiro before the arriving of the Frenchs, who gives this name was Americo Vespúcio. Villegagnon tries to found the colony in an island in the Guanabara Bay, but his resistance to go inland because his protestant believes (to avoid the high sexually behavior of Tupinambás from Rio de Janeiro) is also one of the reasons of failure of this colony.
4:46 - The foundation of the city of Colonia del Sacramento (in nowadays Uruguay) wasn't to trade with Spanish, but to secure a souths boarder. And the reason of the lost was a trade of cities, Portugal gives the Colonia del Sacramento to Spanish Crown and Spain gives the 7 mission cities (next to Uruguay river), that leads to the Guaranitic war because the Guaranis and Jesuits of this cities don't like the trade.
5:39 - Don't have a war of independence, have just small insurrection in Salvador city, but few Brazilians know that and the popular belief is our independence was very pacific (and is a kind of true).
5:55 - Is anachronism called socialism any popular movement before the Marx Book (1848).
6:07 - In this timelines shows the Acre war was around 1866 but was around early 1900.
6:20 - The immigration happens because the slavery is about to end because international pressure (most important British start to capture slave ships in Atlantico around ~1830), and as a racist society and highly eurocentric they start to bring migrants to Brazil to make the population whiter.
6:34 - Yeah, we are called United States of Brazil of a brief time, but is good to notes we don't have more this name.
The worst mistake was to suggest brazilian independency was similar to American independency...
Actually, Brazil did have an indepedence war, in fact, it even had to pay reparations when the war was over, making Brazil broke and in debt to Great Britain who mediated the peace deal as soon as Brazil's independence was realized. It wasn't just at Salvador, where from what I remember there was even a Portuguese army, most of the northern provinces still identified themselves as Portuguese, so they declared to still be part of Portugal, at Uruguay (Cisplatina at that time) there was a Portuguese army that got surrounded there since they were far away from their own forces, Brazil captured at lot of ships at their ports, and the Naval part of the conflict was pretty major, with most Brazillian officers being foreigners since Brazil didn't have a navy before the conflict, the navy was led by a famous Scottish man named Thomas Cochrane, who was essencially a mercenary, even sacking a city in Maranhao, but he was pretty good, and not only was the Portuguese navy expelled from Brazillian shores in 1823, but they reached Portugal after chasing Portuguese ships. I wish I could name my sources, but I'm not at home, it's mostly books, but most of this is in the book ''1822'' by the historian Laurentino Gomes, witch I trust enough.
Acho bacana corrigir o cara e talz... mas corrige de um jeito que o cara entenda...
The Independence of Brazil was signed by the Empress, Maria Leopoldina de Áustria, wife of Dom Pedro I, son of João VI, King of Portugal.
Dom Pedro I just publicized the thing with the "Independence Cry" by the Ipiranga River, since he was more peasant to the people of Brazil at the time. Maria Leopoldina was brilliant, intelligent, full of great ideas, but was badly treated by Dom Pedro I and his court for all of thoses atributes.
Maria Leopoldina died when she was pregnant, mostly by depression caused by the opression of Pedro I.
She is the true Mother and Father of Brazil.

Até aqueles canais de countryball conseguem contar a história do Brasil melhor..
Before Brazil was an empire, Brazil was an imperial united kingdom ruled by Dom Joao VI, before being a united kingdom, Brazil was a tranzitory kingdom, before being a tranzitory kingdom, Brazil was a Vice Kingdom, before from being a Vice Kingdom, Brazil was a Principality, and before being a Principality, Brazil was a General Government. Does anyone still believe that Brazil was a mere colony of Portugal? Brazil was formed with the purpose of being a future kingdom or a successor empire of Portugal since its discovery!
@@joaoguilherme9671 Another lie of your statement, but in part, is that Brazil has merely a neglected colony of exploitation left to drift for other adventurous nations to exploit. In part, Portugal neglected Brazil in that it did not maintain its defense with coastal fortresses autonomously at the beginning of the settlement simply because Portugal underestimated the capabilities of kingdoms such as France, the Netherlands, and England to have the technological capabilities. to reach Brazil for possible explorations on their lands, since it was no wonder that France, Holland and England sent spies to Portugal and Spain to try to discover or poke around what was happening with the maritime explorations of that kingdom (Portugal). But, on the other hand, there were already coastal settlements and fortified barracks within the colony even though there was no wide coastal defense throughout the colony from north to south, there were already churches and chapels with schools of formation of monks, there were already small schools of the to know (the beginning of the emergence of colleges), there were already judicial courts to form laws and justices for the colony, there were already mining and sugar mills, there were already squares and fountain, and there were also senses of identities, that is, a nationality inside the colony. It was no wonder that Brazil became a general government with various autonomous rights and powers over itself from the governor general to ensure the fate and direction of the state of Brazil (at the time of the general government), needing only the agreement of the Empire. Lusitana so that everything could be done so that Portugal would also receive its cockerel, that is, that it would also receive gold, sugar and wood as tributes. Nothing more that! That's why Brazil was never a mere colony!

Well done! I'm brazilian and I absolutely loved your animation. And indeed, Brazil is not an easy nation. You can love it and hate it at the same time !
An aditional fact: Nearly every rebellion ocurred during the Empire would happen in the Regência(Regency) Period (1831-1840) during Pedro II minority. Due to the enourmous quantity of rebellions, the Liberal Party would hurry up Pedro's ascension to the throne, in an event known as Majority Coup, when Pedro, who was 14, would be crowned emperor.

The empire of Brazil was overthown BECAUSE they ended slavery, this piece of info is the most important...
And you have coup d'etat apologists in Brazil that ridicule the Empire for having slaves (the only thing they can possibly ridicule), forgetting the monarch fought for years to put an end to slavery, and their beloved "republic" was only founded because of that fact. Brazil has never been stable since.

Btw, 5:00. U mixed up the names 'Pardos' and 'Mestiços'. That explains damn why Brazil use to have their own monarch even after gaining independence from Portugal. I wonder what Brazil will be like if Brazil still have a monarch???
I can assure you that would be much more stable and democratic than today.
waay better than nowdays
If Brazil still have a monarch, we all know that Brazil will adopt a Parliamentary Democracy, like Uk’s government. But will it be successful like UK and Norway’s government or will it be corrupt government like Thailand and Cambodia’s government?
@@codyshi4743 It would be as developed as the UK. Cambodia and Thailand have a history of military coups, instability between the feudal landlords and the people, not to mention that they were exploited by colonial powers and got their independence much later. By 1914 , I have no doubt that Brazil would already have Universal suffrage (Male and female). Our corruption level would be lower than today's, I think we would be on the level of corruption that Italy has for example or even lower. We would also be an industrialized nation by the interwar period and black people would be much more integrated to society than today. Freedom of Press would be the best of the world. Brazil would also be much more active in international affairs. Standards of living would be as high as Spain and Italy, considering the development of standards of living in the Empire that was gradual

Some minor corrections and notes:
3:13 : The Bandeirantes were a popular movement, they were not sent, but went in search of spices and gold in their own will, and were more concentrated in the south, in São Paulo.
3:22 : It is good to remember that those Bandeirantes also killed and slaved thousands of natives.
3:36 : I did'nt knew that! It's a minor event nonetheless, a bigger one that's more important is the Dutch Invasion in Pernambuco, that I think would be nice to be mentioned.
5:30 : It was a peaceful independence, Pedro and his father agreed that if a revolution would happen should happen by the hands of them, the portugese. So it was not a patriotic revolution nor a popular one, unlike the american revolution.
5:35 : The most part of civilians were hired by the emperor, for there was a lack of militar force to defend themselves from the portugese that didn't agreed with the new governament.
5:50 : THERE WAS NO SOCIALIST MOVEMENTS IN BRAZIL UNTIL THE XX CENTURY! The delusional revisionists of today can say that, but they were just popular movements that wanted independence.
6:17 : The practice of slavery wasn't endded because imigrants' workforce covered Brazil's needs, but because England were making pressure to end this practice.
That all being said, great video, I liked a lot and learned a bit more about my country, keep the good work!
6:17 aaaannd because the imperial family themselves were against the slavery. Dom Pedro said "the color of blood of the black people are red, like mine"
The Bandeirantes were mostly sons of portugueses with natives.
Also, there was a war indeed. Not patriotic or anything, but there was a very violent war for three years.
And no, there was no british pressure. Since Dom João VI people were trying to abolish slavery, but the farming elites didn't allow it.

6:23 Hmmm, i
am pretty sure that it wasn’t like that. Literally most of the population suported the monarchy at that time, as Brazil was on it’s golden age. The reason that the Empire ended was because the military, after the Paraguayan War, felt desprised by the Emperor, Dom Pedro II, setting a military coup in 1889, with no popular support. But in general a great video!!
Who was "most of the population" at that moment? I'm pretty sure former slaves (the de facto majority of the population), had no political knowledge to support or oppose the Monarchy. The elite? They stopped supporting the Monarchy after the abolition of slavery. The military? As you well said, they felt abandoned by the Emperor. So, in that case, who's the majority? This is a myth created by people who think the Monarchy was the best moment in brazilian history. The Monarchy fell because it was already weak. As a matter of fact, the Monarchy was heavily dependent on slavery, and it's fall it's directly related to the abolition.

Man, Portugal needs a video!
Brazilians are very conflicted people. They love and hate their country at the same time. The hate comes from the fact that pretty much every politician there is either extremely controversial or involved in a corruption scandal.
Columbo was Portuguese and Portugal already knew of the new world away before spain.
That's why the cutoff on Brasil.
I've read about that theory in the past, about Columbus having been Portuguese. It's interesting.
@@LennyCash777 Even pedro alvares cabral wasnt the first to reach Brasil. That was the state claim . Some other portuguese captains did it.
I understand the mess around this subject. This was state secrets. Portugal never claim that found australia before the English guy. The true is a XVI cannon was found there. A portuguese cannon...
Long live Brasil and Portugal.....
Nice video.Please do Bulgaria next
Those tribes were not exactly cannibals. They wouldn't hunt people for food. They would only eat them after winning a war against another tribe in a ritualistic way. Not like hunting people down and have a bbq...
They were cannibals samehow
@@jatodoismil9125 yes, I must agree. But I felt necessary to explain or else people would think they were out there hunting people for food.
@@jatodoismil9125 well the term anthropofagic is usually used but yes
@Degenerates Like You Belong On a Cross The portuguese themselves recognized them as the "almost perfet people". According to them, if they could become christians, they would be truly perfect. So, if you said that to a portuguese 500 years ago, he would tie you to the stake and burn you for your blasphemy.

I am Brazilian and I felt honored with this video so thank you very much, but I felt that some things were missing like in 1888 when slavery was abolished most of the former slaves were illiterate and there was A LOT of prejudice against former slaves who could not find jobs and they practically offered themselves as slaves even at that time, because there were no anti-racist laws at that time and the cisplatin war, that for a while Uruguay was ours and then it belonged to the Spaniards and in the end it became independent, but thank you very much for the homage. 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
And it was also to talk more about the war in Paraguay which was VERY important
Brazil is my favorite country...... Infact Brazil and France are my favorite countries. Love you Brazil from India.
At the 0:23 mark, Vasco da Gama's globe is depicting Cape Horn of South America when it should show Cape of Good Hope South Africa.

3:15 Bandeirantes were not "sent" to do anything. They would form expeditions to explore the country themselves and find riches (precious metals, gems and enslaved indians) for their own profit, which ended up being useful for pushing the borders of the colony westwards. Most of them came from the captaincy of São Paulo, which is the only one not shown in the animation.

;_;
Little note: when signing the treaty of Tordesilhas (the one where Portugal and Spain split the world in half) Portugal already suspected there was something southwest of their homeland (that something ended up being Brazil). The treaty was done so in the Portuguese would have the right to colonize the land they found southwest of Europe if they found any.
please do a video on the history of Malta!
Malta was a british colony
@@skyboy4341 so? It still has loads of history
Diz Pra Mim O Que Já Seiiii
Cool video, but you should have mentioned D. Pedro II and elaborated more on the Platine Wars, as well as mentioned the Battle of Guararapes --- where some of our proud coastal amerindian tribes, slaves, the portuguese and luso-brazilian settlers all banded together to put and end to Nieuw Holland (Nova Holanda ou Brasil Holandês) in 1649 and thus paving the way for our sense of Brazilian identity and future nationality.
Can you cover the history of Bulgaria?
Another successful Portuguese colony was Pernambuco, due to sugar production. And another republican movement that created a country was the Pernambuco Revolution of 1817 (inspired by Enlightenment ideals) which made the state of Pernambuco an independent country for 75 days. Despite these errors, the video is great!!
