I just picked this up because i was able to get it for just over $1k. I was heavily debating between this and the alienware but i love Samsung products in general (PC has a 990 pro 2TB SSD and my phone is a galaxy S23 ultra) so i went for this one. Just got delivered so yesterday so I'll be setting it up this weekend 🎉
@@johnroyston3859 alineware price came down to $800 even on their official website and bestbuy. I think the newer display is probably around the corner. I heard that the 2nd gen QD-OLED used in G9 model has better pixel layout for text clarity. That's probably why. To be honest, I wanted 16:9 ratio but none of them are available until later in 2024 and I just didn't wanna wait.
Got my G8 OLED a week ago and I've been loving it. IMO it's definitely *not* worth $400-$500 more than the Alienware DWF (I tried both the DW and DWF) unless you're like me and plan on using your monitor in a quiet room for work. The DW and DWF that I tried arrived with flawless screens, but the DW made a loud, clicking fan noise and the DWF had a loud, high pitched coil whine that drove me crazy in an otherwise silent room during my workday. My G8 OLED is dead silent. No fan, no whine. As for the panel it does feel like the image "pops" more than the DW/F and the blacks feel darker in a lit room (they are still gray, just a lot less gray...). Samsung's coating feels different to me and its image processing superior to the Alienwares'... just probably not $400 superior. I don't use any of the smart TV or gaming console features so no comment on those. Overall I've been loving my G8 OLED and plan on keeping this one! For the HDMI 2.1 being micro, you should be able to use your existing HDMI 2.1 cables with a $10 HDMI to Micro HDMI adapter from Amazon. That's what I'm doing for display port and it works without any issue or hassle. Still annoying you have to buy an adapter but using one was painless for me.
I have to agree with this. It should be around 100 more at mrsp. Other thing I do notice is that colors pop more like the saturation is cranked too high. Overall I’m impressed
@@nubz8733 no keep the dwf because even if it’s better in some aspects it’s nowhere near 500 better. If you like punchy colors and the ability to watch free tv then the g8 is your only option at the moment.
