    Yes - that's the way to do it. The standard 2D trace works great if you have chamfers modeled: just select the bottom contour and voila! Same as a standard 2D contour chamfering operation.
    Unfortunately I sometimes need chamfers larger than my tool allows. I tried the scallop but that somehow gave me very weird dance like movements in the middle of the tool path. Changing the additional offset does the trick, giving a faster tool path with much better surface finish

    Big thanks for this. I’m another that struggles with non planar chamfers, I also puzzle over the trace option,. If you could do a vid on the uses for trace I’d be grateful. And thanks again for your vids, I learn from every one of them.

    Or if you have a 4/5 axis machine then you can rotate the tool/part to maintain the perpendicular angle required for a consistent chamfer

    Thank you again :) For some reason Autodesk can't explain, a 2d chamfer toolpath got all wonky on a model which was a copy/paste of an existing component (done so I could manipulate it for placement on a fixture plate). Anyhoo the 2d chamfer went a little nuts, doing a retract every 50 thou or so. Crazy. But trace with left comp solved it!!

    I know literally nothing about cnc but this is a tool path that in my mind seemed like it would give me problems because of the geometry, its interesting to know that this is a valid concern, at least my head is in the right direction

    I have a question. Whenever ever i have to put a nice chamfer along some 3d contours what i often do is to manually compensate a ball nose end mill (12mm ball nose for a 0.5mm chamfer) on every point basically via spherical coordinate s calculation given the chamfer angle and the cut path angle like literally
    R0=6 (tool radius)
    R1=45 (chmfr angle)
    R2=30 (path angle)
    G1 X=(R0*COS(R1)) Y=((R0*(COS(R1))*COS(R2)))
    Z=((R0*(COS(R1))*SIN(R2)))
    this is just the sphere comp. You need to ad the point location for every axis and ad or subtract the comp value based on what quadrant of the theorical circle you are then reduce R0 by 0.5 so the tool dive in to the part by 0.5 creating the chamfer. ALL THIS BY HAND on the machine. I have videos of it that i can upload for every one who disbelief. So my question is: is there a method in fusion for doing all this? Like a trace path but whit a ball nose one shot along 3d contours?
