- (Apologies to viewers of this video in Belgium, Luxembourg or the Netherlands. Apparently, even though I do not monetize any of my videos (because they are basically just movie clips with flags edited over them) RUclips has seen it fit to 'partially block' the video on copyright grounds, meaning that people in the aforementioned nations are now blocked from viewing this meme. There is not much I can do about this, I'm afraid. The good news is that this is the only video that has, thus far, been blocked. Funny that it also happens to be my most popular meme.)
December 1941. The German Reich's plans for European (and even world) domination are going well. Europe is under Nazi control, Britain is subdued, and the Soviet Union is on the brink of collapse. Everything is falling into place, except for one thing.
In the east, the Empire of Japan is mobilising. Straining for resources to fuel their ambitious territorial expansion, the Japanese formulate a surprise attack on a sleeping giant. Hoping to knock their enemy out in one blow, Japanese planes bomb American ships at Pearl Harbour, aiming to inflict as much damage as possible. Immediately, the United States joins the war against the Axis on the side of the Allies. Immediately, the tides turn against Hitler. Japan may well be doomed - but will they bring the rest of the Axis down with them...?

@@duuurs In terms of resources, Alaska in-game is rather poor, something you'd typically see in African provinces. No, where America gets the vast majority of its oil in-game is Texas, terrifying.
We do have enough fuel to survive without international trade, although it would increase gas prices and we would likely have to rush to find other sources of energy to compensate. The vast majority of America's oil & gas resources are being withheld for emergencies.
First, because you get more oil/gas out of a well if you pump slowly over a long period of time, so it's a bad idea to produce it all at once. Second, because America is paranoid and will never allow itself to become dependent on international trade again, especially after what OPEC did to us in the 1970s.
I'd just like it noted I was talking about fuel problems playing as Japan in Hoi4.

Well no it wasn’t that they didn’t bomb factories. The main problem was the US had deployed most of its navy the day before so Japan had angered an entire fleet and missed their fucking aircraft carriers

In a funny way, Imperial Japan was Germany’s son, as the Japanese had Prussian and (after 1871) German instructors training and modernizing their military. They even had statues of these instructors. (Dunno if these statues are still around. I doubt it.)
I love how we wanted to remain neutral. The people didn’t want to fight another war. But then Japan fucked around and quickly realized why no one wants to fight America

The US is a rarity from its very beginning, and that was one reason why no one fights with America. Their revolution was against the British Empire, an empire which at the time was the most powerful country in the world and the greatest navy and won their independence, then they had the Spanish-American War which was yet another powerful empire and won against them. If they could take down two great empires, nobody would want to fuck with them. Of course they did lose wars here and there, but the wars they did win kind of put the fear of god in other nations.
Everything about the whole American hype-train/mythos is just awesome to me.

Also, if you understand the last scene and know the game, it's referencing the United States just finished the Focus that let's them join the war.
In reality, the German leadership _laughed_ at the production estimates they were given. They didn’t think it was possible for a country to be so productive.
These estimates were _below_ what the peak of American production hit by the end of the war.
I fully expected there to be 2 nukes in the box at the end.
The United States is so powerful - in military, economics, and influence - that the only way it would ever collapse is if it fell from within, like the Civil War. And yet as divided as Americans can be, since the dawn of the 20th century every time the country was on the verge tearing itself apart, some i̶d̶i̶o̶t̶ outside force would try to blindside the United States, only to unite its people and awaken the giant - thus preserving the Union in the same stroke.
It's a strange sort of serendipity.
