They both played a lot of same blues clubs in Houston area before Janis made it big. I would guess they became friends in Houston and probably had some parties together. Two of my all time favorites Townes and Janis. I was lucky enough to see Townes play Mountain stage three times in Charleston WV. Guy Clark and Robert Earle Keen were there once. Two of those Townes part of the shows I saw are on youtube. He wrote this the day she passed. Townes was playing in Montgomery W.V. for three day gig. Trains roll by every half a hour in Montgomery. It was at the time a College town. A College girl gave him a egg in a bottle. Allison Layed a egg on me. Always loved the line lay down your head and fly Ill quietly pass you by you won't even see me go.
