This is a beautiful performance of an unjustly neglected masterpiece. Highly recommended.

I can't believe that, in 65 years of concert-going, LPs, CDs, etc., I've never heard this deeply moving score.... Wagner should have listened to this, rather than (criticizing) Genoveva. Thanks very much for posting....

Interesting and Wagner did not catch up to Genoveva until Tristan..thanks to Genoveva.

Schumann 'Scenes from Goethe's Faust' is a terrific complex, dynamic and delightful composition. The epic story is relived in one's imagination with the beautiful musical melody of a full orchestration and an appealing chorus and masterful soloists. Monumental assemble and a great conductor, it is awe-inspiring in quality.

This is an extremely moving performance! The music is so beautiful!! I'm studying the piece and this is my preferred performance to study with. The tempi are just right, the choir spot on, the conductor is amazing, and the soloists all EXCELLENT singing musicians! Bravo!

    Tolle Aufnahme eines unterschätzten Meisterwerks.
Die 3.

Gracias!

How is Schumann underrated? He is one of the greatest Romantic composers. By "underrated" you mean his face should be on coins and learning his music be compulsory at schools?

Yeah I was watching the movie “song of love” with Katharine Hepburn and Paul muni. In the scene where Schumann collapses and is led off the stage, he is conducting this work, probably the “chorus mysticus.” It was lovely, but it was new to me, too. I’ve certainly heard a lot of music and made not a little, but it was a stranger to me.

Herr Wagner--I hope you are listening. He was, as a score reader. The ultimate difference in the music is the difference in the men: Schumann, noble, honorable, generous; Wagner, every opposite.
