John Surtees shows his garage to Paul Hollywood. This is a clip from Racing Legends, Episode 3; John Surtees, first shown on BBC 2 on Sunday 11th January, 2015.
We share that privilege.. SIR John was young at ANY age... That smile was his trademark... A pity he lost his son... But not his smile... Extraordinary!
Blues I agree 100 percent. It’s astonishing especially when you think that the awful stirling moss who never won a single world championship got one, I turned my back to the track at the good wood festival of speed when moss drove up the hill. He went up the hill like an old woman waving at the crowd like the bloody queen mother. I cannot understand why he had so many supporters when he was such a consistent runner up.
John Surtees simply brilliant, A true race hero, I understand he passed away today why why why did this man never receive a knighthood for his racing achievements. A true legend on 2 and 4 wheels
I’ve been there btw. My friend works there and I sat in that Ferrari f1 car, amazing experience. Lovely guy as well, so if his wife. Very welcoming people. rip John and Henry surtees.
I always adored john as I felt he did what every racer wishes to do, winning both car and motorcycle titles.. Respect and sure wish you had been knighted in your lifetime .. Sir john Surtees sounds good to me because you did what no others have.. Respect and RIP a legend to all petrolheads
Soooo, the Beckhams get royal/government recognition for their contributions, but the only person in the word to to achieve somthing that will never be done again, aswell as starting a foundation after the loss of his son to help others....... What did we miss?
I raced against this MV 500/4 bike ridden by Colin Seeley..it was at Dunsfold..The MV went off like a scalded cat..my 250/4 racer being driven by a 70+ year old racer Ken..shot past me and chased after the MV..i was left in the dust and breeze..oh dear..!!! make I'm out for a ride me thinks..that MV is fast..then and now..
A nice chat Sebring '64 I had told the old man about John dropping a wheel off in the sand on exiting The Websters.. Just as John came in with a broken lower A arm, on the 330P... Smiling that I had caught him out.. But the 4 liter had such torque it wanted to go out there.. I was about 15, but an observer.... astronomy and all else... John seemed as young as I... hard to believe he had been racing over 10 years.. Never got to speak with him again.. But the old Ferrari mechanic would call me over for any observations Right through 1972... my last Sebring race... No one could miss my old USN WWII B&L 7x50s Which helped me pick up on such things.. Then the oil embargo/IMSA killed off the prototypes... I lost interest.. J.C.
He won the 1967 Italian Grand Prix at Monza in the Honda F-1. I was there then, and had the privilege of watching him win.
We share that privilege..
