Correction the crown still does own all the land.
    Having a freehold lease it's 1000 years.
You never own the land your house is on

@@thewealthwarren6940 yeah, you never own the land your house is on.
It belongs to the crown 👑
My mum owns the bricks, mortar and roof
Your free to do what you want with the land designated within planning laws and stipulations.
So my mum's house is free hold.
You aren't allowed to erect a fence on the front of the houses, you see lots of conifers and hedges acting as a privacy barrier instead.
One neighbour erected what looked like cattle ranch fencing, was made to remove it.
Considering such laws, it's why people complain about the eyesores being erected today.
You're not allowed to do x,y and z because you have to keep the area within a certain aesthetic.
Doesn't seem to apply to developers however.
Some new build estates are soul destroying, no colour, no grass, just copy paste of the same ugly house but I can't make my fence 2ft higher cause...... reasons

@@thewealthwarren6940 well I see why they have such a thing, if they want to build a motorway where your house is , they'll buy you out and do whatever with the land your house stood on.
It is a 1000year lease though, it won't ever happen realistically but the option is there.
What's horrible as an owner if any part of your building/house is Grade 1 or grade 2 listed.
Your not allowed to change it.
It's usually old stuff, bit rotten bit mouldy.
      You're obligated to replace it.
Oak support beams aren't cheap, but a far cheaper steel I beam isn't an option.
Owning a house often isn't worth the money, especially these days
